If you keep waiting for something you will wait forever.
Me? I am committing to the Bionic, my OG Droid is having issues and on its last legs.
LOL, if I was still relying on my Eris, I probably would bite the bullet on the Bionic anyway. I came really close to buying the OG Droid, but purchased the Eris instead (there was one particular app I needed that simply did not work on the OG Droid (at the time), strangely-enough).
But my Droid X is still a beast, IMHO, and should allow me to be choosey .
I just want to make sure I pick a device that a lot of the devs will get behind.

Exactly. By the time any phone is released, there has already been an announcement of the subsequent model, so you always have an inkling of what you'll be waiting for. The sooner I update, the sooner I can update again.
Now it seems almost official regarding release of Bionic and other devices! Many surprises here. Both SGS2 stratosphere and HTC vigor looks like 4G. Stratosphere drops on the same day 09/08 with Bionic. Samsung illusion might be 3G version of SGS2. Sequel to LG Revolution is also coming. Seems like Bionic will face tough rivals coming at the same time and soon after it.
Device(s): DROID DNA by HTC;Transformer Prime;
HTC Rezound (retired); Incredible (retired)
Carrier: Verizon

Wow. So this confirms the Targa = new version of Bionic.
Also, what the heck is the Samsung Stratosphere? Is that the SGS2? Galaxy seems to be in the same type of "name" group as Stratosphere, doesn't it?
And supposedly the Stratosphere is a 4G phone running Gingerbread! Released the same day as Bionic (9/8/11)!!
And Yoda didn't tell us!
From the site:
Samsung Stratosphere: Due September 8th, it's that mysterious 4G LTE handset we first learned about yesterday. Reportedly running Android 2.3.
Motorola DROID Bionic: Also due September 8th. Moto CEO Sanjay Jha previously said that the Bionic would be coming next month, and it looks like the 8th will finally be DB-Day.
BlackBerry Curve 9370: The third handset due on September 8th. This one's new to us, as we haven't heard anything about Verizon's plans for the next device in RIM's Curve line. What's surprising here isn't that Verizon will be getting the 9350, but that it could pack 4G connectivity.
Motorola XOOM: Also coming September 8th is the 4G LTE XOOM. The current XOOM's 4G upgrade process is also scheduled to kick off on the 8th, but could begin one week earlier.
HTC Bliss: Hitting on September 29th, this is that female-focused Android phone that's leaked a couple of times in the past. Said to be packing Android 2.3.
HTC Vigor: Coming October 5th. This is the device a lot of folks have been waiting for. Reportedly packing a 1280x720 display and 1.5GHz processor and, according to this doc, set to replace the ThunderBolt.
I think I AM going to wait. Bionic seems a bit "eh" now. I think Moto really took a major dump on its bottom line, waiting to release the Bionic a couple of weeks before the 1.5 GHZ higher-res-screen 4G phone by HTC (Vigor). [htc vigor]
Very interesting indeed!

The same news reported from Phonearena. But they also noted Samsung Plato coming next January and running Ice Cream. If this is true, it's another evidence that Samsung is the manufacturer cooking Nexus Prime. Maybe then Verizon is getting Plato instead of Prime with essentially the same spec (HD Super AMOLED display, high clock dual core, 4G, etc).
I don't know why everyone is getting so worked up over a picture of a screen with a spreadsheet on it. Sure I like rumors too, but don't be surprised if this winds up to be fake just like the last 900 VZW release date leaks.

I get your point. Sure it may just end up being a fake. I'm not saying it's official and set in stone, just food for thoughts. But if we only go by official announcements, there won't be much talk, discuss on this forum.

I agree. I am so over these "Release dates"
In an interesting side note. If the Stratosphere launches the same day as the Bionic. Doesn't that mean the Bionic is not the first dual core 4G phone? Unless the stratosphere is not the SGS2. Just some food for thought. Either Motorola is wrong again, or Samsung might have a weak showing till January...
Even more pics. It looks like a decent, if somewhat tired, design. I think they could have made this even 5" if they really wanted to. That bezel rivals the iPhone in unnecessary thickness. If it's 4.3", that will be a huge disappointment.
Does someone know why Moto insisted on qHD instead of Super AMOLED Plus? Is it exclusive to Samsung or something? Comparisons between the two are ridiculous.

Samsung makes the displays, so won't sell to anyone else. Same with the Exynos.
It's the same thing that Apple is doing. They don't let anyone else get their displays (they own a contract that prevents their providers from providing to anyone else).

Yeah, I think Samsung wants to make Galaxy brand like Apple in android world with exclusive hardwares.
and these pictures seem to show some "lip" on the bottom edge. Does that lip fall off like on the OG droid (for the stupid keyboard), or is the screen deeper than the rest of the phone? I can't tell from the angles.
It just looks too much like the Droid 3, and I'm not sure why there has to be a lip if there is no keyboard.

Wouldn't it be something if all of the manufacturers teamed up to make a super phone?

The lip does not fall off. The screen is recesses a very tiny bit, I'm guessing to keep the phone off a surface if placed face down.
My claims are supported by the many galleries that were released yesterday and today.

^It should make for putting screen protectors on easier....but a pain to take off.
I never use em any way...

I put Ghost Armor on my OG Droid for the longest time until it started peeling. After I took it off, I noticed that the Gorilla Glass really does live up to its reputation. Even accidentally putting it in the same pocket as my keys for hours at a time (and dropping it on the pavement a few times) hasn't left a single scratch on the screen. I'll never use another protector again.

Hopefully that's the case. I kind of wish they had made it more rounded off though. The Droid is cool, but it's just so brick-like.

Once in a while you encounter a product that lives up to its claims. GG been utterly scratchproof for me too.
Personally, I think phone screen protectors are analogous to the front end car bras they used to sell in the 80's -- it's just bling.

I have never used a screen protector, I have dropped my droid 3 times on cement screen down.

Not a single scratch or nick.
I use a Z-Shield, are you guys being 100% honest in the manner you dropped your phones? I find it hard to believe there is nothing on your screen did the OG droid have gorilla glass? Cause mine was looking a little rough when I upgraded...

100%, I was at a world festival one day and dropped my phone onto the cement, landed face down.
I picked it up and while it did have some scratches along the edges the screen was perfectly fine.
Did the same thing on gravel 6 months prior to that.

I put it in pockets with keys a bunch of times, and I dropped it 3 times on pavement. Twice it landed on the corners (and they did get a bit roughed up), and once on its face.
The ghost armor had more pocks and craters and scratches than anything. Once I peeled it off, the glass was super smooth. I dropped it once after I peeled off the screen protector (it hit primarily on the corner but did come to rest on the screen). And I put it in same pocket with keys a bunch of times after the protector came off.
Now, I didn't go testing it by gouging it with a key like they did in a couple of youtube videos I saw, but it has held up perfectly. I looked at it really well before this post to make sure, and it doesn't have a single scratch or dent on the screen. The body is a different story.

Yep, I've dropped it several times on hard floors and even have a dented corner, but not a nick on the glass. I make a point of not carrying keys in the same pocket, but it's had plenty of other rough handling without a problem. This is my 2nd OG Droid (after an unfortunate orange juice incident), and the first one remained pristine also.
Motorola Mobility delivered the original DROID in 2009, an award winning device and one of the most successful smartphones launched. The company followed with the DROID X, DROID 2 Global, and DROID PRO. We believe the DROID BIONIC will have those same award winning features and will be one of the best 4G LTE devices on the market.
Motorola Mobility strives to deliver the best possible user experience with all of its devices. We are working to ensure that the DROID BIONIC meets the expectations of consumers who are awaiting its availability.
In collaboration with Verizon Wireless, we are expecting to launch DROID BIONIC this September. We are very excited about the new enhancements that have been incorporated into our first 4G LTE smartphone since we first announced it at CES, and look forward to revealing more details as we get closer to launch.

I find it hilarious that everyone is speechless about this.
Good work, tehsusenoh and casen. I think this is similar to how I would feel if I found proof that the writers knew the end of "Lost" since the beginning. . .
I'm glad that I didn't get caught up in all the anger over supposed delays.
Poor Moto, being maligned like this!

It's funny because it's timestamped for April. Has it really been under our noses the whole time? We need to watch the Dev site...

I know. All kidding aside, I find it extremely hard to believe that it's been there since April and absolutely NONE of the droid-rumor sites ever picked up on it?
Actually, the other vendors have kept this under wraps pretty well until recently and my source didn't have insight into those. I'll admit I was wrong if those are released as planned. (re 1.5 ghz).
If it makes you feel any better, I'll stop giving you guys insights as they come my way.

When the Motorola Droid Bionic was first announced at CES 2011, it featured a 4.3-inch qHD display, NVIDIA Tegra 2 dual-core processor clocked at 1GHz, and support for Verizon's 4G LTE high-speed network. After the handset was delayed, Motorola... Read More
