After installing system "update" the gallery won't open
I just installed the most recent Droid OS update. Tried opening gallery but it keeps saying "Phone memory full, not enough memory to run application. Please delete files to free up space."
I did so and still no luck (internal and SD.) I have 69 Mb available on the internal storage, and 420 Mb on the SD. I also deleted apps, and cleared app files AND caches. Still no luck. Never had this prob before installing the system update.
I should know better, I always encounter major probs when installing PC updates too.

Mine is working fine. If you can't get it to work I would recommend Quickpic, it's free in the market and better than the Gallery anyway. The advice to clear the cache is good though, I would expect that to work. If it still doesn't then reboot the phone.
It doesnt work. Tried everything. And I shouldnt have to install a third party pic viewer. The Droid Pic Gallery should work as advertised. I shouldnt have to suffer because of incompetent programmers!!!

In parallel with your question ... I strongly recommend QuickPic to you. It finally gives me the control of displaying the images on my Bionic my way. I suggest you give it a try irrespective of the solution to your Gallery problem.
(I display Gallery so much I refer to it as iGallery.)
So I just did an update to my Bionic and I have the same issue. The Gallery was immediately rendered inaccessable with this message appearing. "Phone memory full, not enough memory to start. Please delete some files."
Is this a Motorola issue or a Verizon issue? Could use some help, thanks.

Did you try a soft reset (hold down volume up/volume down/power until a menu appears and then disappears) after doing the update? If not give it a try.
If you still have a problem look at the message earlier in this thread about clearing Gallery Data.

I do not know for sure, but it is quite possible that this error message is incorrect and is instead that there is a bad image file somewhere on your internal storage or the SD card. You could try copying all image files from both to your computer to back up, delete them temporarily (most likely from within /DCIM for camera images) and see if that clears the error.
Another idea is to start the phone without the SD card to see if the error goes away - then you know the error is something to do with the SD card.
It's also possible, though, that the error (if the cause is really a bad image file) is caused by a file not in /DCIM, so another idea is to backup both storage areas to PC, format both, and see if the error returns. You can format internal storage from settings->storage (you can also format the SD card from there, though you need to unmount it first.)
These are drastic things to try, but less so than a factory reset - my next suggestion.

... and another one ... install QuickPic (free) and launch it. It will search for every image file it can find on your Bionic. See what problems it reports (if any).

I see two apps named QuickPic on Googleplay. One from alenws.com for free and one from Josh Beck for .99 cents. Which one are you referring to?

Good. I just got back form my meeting. The free one is the one I use. For me it all of a sudden "just made sense" as opposed to "standing on your head" with Gallery.
When the Motorola Droid Bionic was first announced at CES 2011, it featured a 4.3-inch qHD display, NVIDIA Tegra 2 dual-core processor clocked at 1GHz, and support for Verizon's 4G LTE high-speed network. After the handset was delayed, Motorola... Read More
