I've had .905 since it was leaked. Not sure if it started right away, but I've noticed some serious 4G data dropping. The signal at my apartment and school have been pretty good up until this started happening. I've been at this apartment since December. I was running .904 up until the .905 leak. It was rock solid everywhere except a couple of known areas with bad VZW reception. I decided to revert back to .902 to see if the problem resolved. Seemed to be just as bad, which is weird since it worked fine before. I just applied the .904 leak again and the 4G icon has been steadily blue. I think I'm sticking to .904 until ICS is released.
I downloaded the file and installed it, but my phone is still saying I'm on 902:
It must not have installed correctly. Did you get any errors while the install process was running in stock recovery? If you have any missing system apps or modified config files, it will abort the update. Try it again and watch for error messages or warnings.

i'll try it again, and pay attention. I was rooted, and had frozen some bloatware, but thawed it all prior to installing the update. My phone is also now unrooted, after the install.

I reinstalled it, and did not see any errors, but my phone is till showing 902. I may have removed something when I was rooted, but cannot remember. Is there any way to tell if my phone is still modified?

It just got pushed to my phone downloading now. Then I will see if I can see anything different. I really didn't have anything to complain about. Well they sent me a different phone cause ear piece blew on mine and now I cant get screen grabber to work where it did on the other one. Just popping up and telling me I need to be rooted. Thats the only thing I could complain about and I'm sure this wont fix that...
just updated two bionics...they both switched to 3G after the update when they are nearly always on 4G. this isn't good...I tried turning off data, using Restart Connections, no luck. Pulled both batteries...got 4G back and will report tomorrow as to how well it holds.
EDIT: after a 1/2 day's usage, 4G seems to be holding up fine, but I haven't frequented the spots for long that have been problematic with 902, so it's too early for me to give a definitive comment about the relative ability of 905 to hold onto a 4G signal.

that's strange, i just downloaded it and have had strong 4g so far. i hope it sticks because I've been dropping data like crazy leading up to this update.
Just posted in the Motorola forum as well. Updated at 1 a.m. EST and immediately noticed data issues with the latest update. It is doing the same drops before the 902 update. This is definitely a step backwards but I will give it a couple of days and see if it settles down. If not then I will try and factory reset.

Soak Test is Over
I was in the 5.9.905 soak test. The process keeps getting more and more “unusual” …
June 7 – 5.9.905 was pushed OTA to 20,000 users. A small fraction of these people had signed up to participate in the soak test. Many people who had signed up for the soak test were not included.
June 10 – a questionnaire went to soak test participants to collect results. It had a due date of June 11.
June 13 – 5.9.905 started being pushed OTA to the public in stages and made available for download.
I have been running 5.9.905 since June 7 and could of course not talk about it here. I am in a 3G-only area and observed no real change.
The only issue I encountered was in the NoLock app. It insisted that I slide the slider to answer an incoming call even when it had the Bionic unlocked. I did a soft reset (Volume Up/Volume Down/Power) and the requirement to use the slider when answering incoming calls went away.

That is consistent with what i was wondering after reading data drop issues and my experience with the NoLock app.
The last thing we seem to think about is doing a soft reset(AKA battery pull) by holding down Volume Up/Volume Down/Power until the menu appears and then disappears.
My hypothesis is ... if you are having problems with 5.9.905 try a soft reset and see if they magically disappear.
It would be great to know how many 5.9.905 problems are corrected with this.

Interesting, regarding No Lock. I use that app too, but haven't had any issues answering calls. But then again, I did a battery pull moments after 905 was installed due to both Bionics switching over to 3G.

I had more data drops with the .905 updates than ever before. What's funny it never switched to 3G, my data connection just stopped. I tested it out all day yesterday and this morning I did a factory reset. It seems fine now. I was so frustrated yesterday. I also did a sim card pull. No drops at all today. phew!

I was also in the soak, Here are my conclusions.
1. Getting the Black Screen (Has Not Happened since the early days of the Bionic}
2. Major drops with 4G (Did not have the issue at all after the last fix)
3. Battery Life Is Worse.
So all In all, this update stinks.
That is all for now.

I haven't noticed the screen flash, but haven't looked for it.
I also haven't noticed the battery draining faster either, but I did notice we got 2 new pieces of bloatware, the G+ and the messenger for it.

Is it possible that these may be running and making Social Networking run more often than it had before? From what's been told to me in these forums, that drains battery life fast.
I did the update manually about a week ago. The problem that I was having was that my phone would not make a data connect. The phone worked reliably under almost all conditions. WiFi connection was fine at home, at school and at one or two other places I visit. Since I have the WiFi most of the time I was slow to complain but was ready to turn in my phone.
With the new update I have connection. I'm a light user when roaming about (quick trivia look-ups or score checks when out at a restaurant). In the limited testing I have been able to give the update it appears reliable now.
Battery usage is moderately heavier but that could be from the added connectivity which had been missing before. I can live with this.
Here's my take on 905's abilities regarding holding onto a 4G signal--while the symbol tends to stay blue much more of the time, there are obvious interruptions in the data flow, as noticed by me when loading pages and playing games. It seems to me that what I'm experiencing with 905 is the same old "drops" but the icon isn't switching to white or disappearing. I might be wrong, but I doubt it, given how I've seen a lot of slow-loading web pages that I often visit. ie, I think Moto played with the data icon parameters and connectivity is pretty much the same as it was on 902.
Anyone else notice this? I use a LOT of data--up to 10GB a month, so I have lots of opportunity to observe connectivity issues...and I rarely stream any video.

Holding down Volume Up/Volume Down/Power until the menu appears and then disappears is the same as removing the back, removing the battery, replacing the battery, and powering on.
The first way is quicker (and you don't crack your fingernail taking the back off).
On the other hand ... with the battery out you can also check that the SIM and SD-Ext cards are squarely and firmly seated. This is another easily overlooked problem cause.

905 downloaded OTA into my Bionic 16 hours ago but did not install. My "system update" remains greyed out and I am still running 902.
Where can I find the 905 downloaded file in my phone to possibly encourage the install?
TIA.
