Default 5.9.905 leaked?

I just read that 5.9.905 has made its way out into the wild. Perhaps minds were changed on the 904 build?

Lots of stuff on this and a link to the version over on Droidforums.net

This is a leak and has not been approved or released yet, but initial reports are better than 904.

I'm installing it now. I was on .904, but reverting a stock .904 system to .902 is simple - using moto-fastboot all you need to do is flash both boot.img and system.img from the stock .902 FXZ, and your stock phone is now .902 again.

Caveats:

1) Do not need to unroot.
2) *DO* need to make sure your stock system in pure stock - with bloat and all. Debloating *may* cause the update to fail.

I'm really interested in how 905 performs and if it is improved over 904. I'm on the fence after the 904 mess...

I got .904 right about the same time my area got 4G - all of a sudden my rock solid phone was playing stupid more times than I could count....

I'm certainly hoping .905 plays nicer, too....else I might have to revert to .902 for the time being....

Flashed 905 yesterday and so far so good. It seemed to fix a gps issue I was having, and otherwise seems pretty stable. It's a pretty small file and it doesn't wipe anything on the phone which made flashing easy.

As this article says "OTA" Would it be correct to assume this is the soak test being pushed out?

I went ahead and went back to 902 and installed it to, but the term OTA used in the article means Over The Air which would imply it is being pushed to users by Verizon or Motorola.

How do you flash just the boot.img and system.img and leave the rest as is if I'm on 5.9.904? I'm running stock rom but have bloatware frozen and have made changes to build.prop; I have the stock build.prop file. Do I need to be on stock build.prop and unfreeze bloat? When I installed the 5.9.904 I did have to use a stock build but I didn't unfreeze anything and all went as planned.

Thanks in advance for any help!

Based on what we learned in the past with 5.9.901 and 5.9.902 you can speculate all you want and you will be either right or wrong.

In the case of 5.9.902 the people involved in the testing could only talk to non-testers about it if they violated the nondisclosure agreement they agreed to with Motorola.

There were three leaks before 5.9.901. Then 5.9.901 was sent OTA to some people and not others. Then 5.9.902 went into soak test. Two days later 5.9.902 was sent OTA to everyone. Six weeks later 5.9.902 was announced on the Verizon website.

I read somewhere that 905 disables GSM for us which sucks.

Yep with a simple band unlock. Works on AT&T HSPA+, sometimes on T mobile but just edge. Straight talk, foreign sims etc. Verizon probably doesn't like that and neither does Motorola or FCC. The RAZR and D4 seem to work only overseas.

This is a copy of my original part and .905 seems to have corrected it.

If I install the leak today, will I have to do it over when Verizon officially releases the update?

Nope, the leaked 905 will be exactly the same as what is released as 905.

These postings by Verizon for the Bionic have historically been very inaccurate.

They have posted information about releases in the past that were never released.

When 5.9.902 was finally released the corresponding Verizon posting appeared WEEKS later.

The only thing you can trust is information that it is actually being pushed out to everyone (in the case of 5.9.901 is was pushed out to some people an not others).

Shorter answer ... it is impossible to predict anything until it arrives.

I went ahead and bit the bullet, installing 905. I used voodoo root to unroot, I did not unfreeze any apps, and everything worked on the first try.

On some other forums, users reporting they are getting the official .905 OTA push, I am in Tampa, FL area and not yet getting the OTA, but users from MN, CA, TX, NY all have reported install of .905

That's interesting. I was part of the Soak test for 5.9.902 and I had to accept a nondisclosure agreement that prohibited th me from talking about it anywhere but in a forum on the Motorola site ... until the public release.

Did they do away with the nondisclosure agreement?

I was invited to a soak test a month or so ago, then nothing happened. I did not receive anything for the actual soak test, so I don't think I'm violating any agreements. [Checking emails............]

With 5.9.902 it was a sign up process online that included me agreeing not to talk about 5.9.902 until it was released.

When reports came out that everyone was getting it pushed to them I checked back with them that the soak test was over and it was officially released before I talked about it.

Thom, .905 is not a soak test - this is live for all VZW customers:

http://support.verizonwireless.com/pdf/system_update/droid_bionic_instructions.pdf

Note the third picture - it clearly says .905.

It went live as of yesterday.

I'm a part of the Soak test community too - we haven't had a soak test on .905 at all. In fact, the last call for testers has not resulted in any sort of test thus far.

This .905 (5.9.902 --> 5.9.905) update was found via the cheesecake app by an enterprising individual, and quickly spread b/c it (subjectively) seems to have better dealings with the Motorola LTE chip and holding LTE data connections.

FWIW, though, it is now live. As soon as I can, I am trying to verify that it is (again) the exact same file we early adopters downloaded two months ago.

Also, for users who early adopted the 5.9.904 (5.9.902 --> 5.9.904) update, and did not debloat their system by deleting stock apps nor modify Webtop, there is a relatively simple way to put the system back in .902 mode without having to flash the entire .902 FXZ and lose all your data.

Using Motoflashboot you can flash only the boot.img and system.img files from the full .902 FXZ and then reboot and the phone will take the new .905 update.

If you deleted stock apps, you'll (probably) need to flash the full FXZ to go back to .902 so it can be updated.

If you have modified Webtop, you'll need to do the same.

I saw that at the VZW site but I recieved an email this afternoon about a Bionic soak test and a survey to follow. I don't think it is to be for the masses yet even though it is on there website.

Hi.
Thanks for signing up for the Motorola Feedback Network test of software for your Droid Bionic on Verizon. In a bit of a timing surprise, you may already be seeing the software downloading to your Bionic.
Please go to the private community here to provide your feedback. We will be soaking through the weekend, and I will also send out a survey, probably Sunday, for your evaluations.
Regards,

- Matt

I'm trying to get the users who received it and were not a part of the soak test to post again so I can link them here.

Does anyone have a link to the download of the 905 update? My Bionic has some sort of problem and the update function does not work.

You can download it from the link in the article here Motorola DROID Bionic 5.9.905 update now rolling out
OTA updates are usually pushed out in increments over a week or more so the servers aren't overloaded and it may be a few days before it gets pushed to you.

I can tell you that there is no correlation between those who signed up for the soak test and those who have received the update since my wife received the update yesterday and I can guarantee that she didn't sign up for the soak test.

I on the other hand am patiently waiting for it to come to my Bionic now.

Cool, because some are saying its a soak, some are not. I too am waiting (may not be patiently) for my update as well.

I suggest the use of a new word in this process ... whimsy.

These releases all unfold the way they unfold and the announcements and pseudo announcements by Verizon don't help much.

There was a 5.9.901 that was sent to a whole group of people who had not signed up for a soak test. 5.9.901 was never released. I was on the list for soak tests and never got 5.9.901.

This was followed by a two-day 5.9.902 soak test. 5.9.902 was pushed to me as part of the test.

When 5.9.902 was released to everyone there was concern of how to get from 5.9.901 to 5.9.902 for that group. It was provided.

When 5.9.902 was released I was released from the nondisclosure agreement that prohibited me from discussing it anywhere other than the private Motorola forum.

So the operative words are always ... patience and whimsy.

... Thom

I don't know where the link for the "Official" file is but you can use #ELIOT# at the dial screen to do a manual check in to the Moto Servers and then try the software update in the settings again.

When the Motorola Droid Bionic was first announced at CES 2011, it featured a 4.3-inch qHD display, NVIDIA Tegra 2 dual-core processor clocked at 1GHz, and support for Verizon's 4G LTE high-speed network. After the handset was delayed, Motorola... Read More
