Motorola Promises the Release of Droid Bionic ICS Update within September
Looks like finally they are giving a dead line for the Droid Bionic Ice Cream Sandwich roll out... Actually I always thought they would wait till the last minute.. Happy that it's coming at last!!
Funny, I can't remember much about GB. I do remember loving ICS once I flashed the first leak.
One thing for certain, my phone clocked at 1.2GHz automatically, rather than the 1.0 I got with GB. Also, if you are a webtop user (either via lapdock or HDMI cable to a HDTV or monitor), it changes the webtop version to match what ICS tablets look like. It does do away with Firefox, however.
Other than that - I can't remember specifics, just that after flashing the ICS leak thinking that I really enjoyed what felt like a new phone.

All that an ICS release will create is people bitching about when the Jelly Bean update will arrive(provided the Bionic qualifies).
All I know is--if you want ICS, get one of the leaks. They're going to be the exact same thing as the OTA for most normal users. I'm waiting at least a year before I buy another phone. ICS kind of ruined Android for me, the widget process is absurd, GPS toggles being a security issue, etc. If I wanted Android dumbed down so it takes longer I'd have bought a damn iphone.
Oh im sure Verizon is pushing hard on this. Improve lte and lockout gsm has got to be high on vzw list; right up there with trick people out of unlimited data.

I have the same leak and it also resolved my data drops. It actually made it seem like I have a new phone. I really do not have any issues but the damn maps loves to chew at my battery. Have to force close it.

I took the average time between OTA releases on the Bionic and came up with the projected release date of September 12, 2012 for ICS.
Externally it seems positive to me. Motorola does its work and finally turns it over to Verizon for their approval. Verizon then works on getting their pre-installed software checked out on the new base.
(The way to make the Verizon work happen faster is to get them to minimize the amount of pre-installed software. It must be working for them because they keep doing it.)
There are some people who think "magic should happen" and the updates should be created instantaneous and released bug-free to millions of people.

I'm betting it will be .242
.905 was available around the second week of May if you knew where to look but wasn't SOAKed/pushed out OTA till around the middle of June.
Unofficial super secret word out in some places is Verizon was to make a decision to accept or reject .242 by the end of last week, so if they accepted it soak should start in one to two weeks, maybe even a simultaneous partial release at the same like with .905
If it wasn't accepted we probably won't see ICS in Sept.

Everything I have seen in multiple places indicates that .242 is very solid, in fact way better than the released Razr build, and should be accepted for OTA.
No I wasn't. I have no idea what the status of 6.7.nnn is within Verizon.
... Thom
Then, what did you mean when you said it won't be 6.7.242? Why won't it be that number? That is the last build that is/was in testing at Verizon according to multiple people. I don't understand.

Like EVERYONE else in this thread I have no real word as to what is going to happen.
If you look at the leak details in ... Bionic Reference - Terms - Links ... I think you will conclude that they will probably want to change the designation in the Kernel build.
My suspicion (with absolutely no confirmation from anyone) is that they will create a new build to change the number and include some last minute tweaks from Verizon.

If they say Verizon accepted 242. and testing next week with soak by Friday or early the week of the 17th I believe it.
I.m not saying take .242 as gold until it's officially in SOAK. It's subject to change and nothings guaranteed.

How or what do you use to check the "clock" speed?
And if the Bionic clicks up to 1.2 from 1.0 what does the Razr jump to being it's at a 1.2 as stock?

The razor will stay at 1.2, the bionic was under clocked.
17 days down and still no ICS. pfft. I'll believe it when I see it.
Im so dissapointed, I love this phone but this whole Verizon/Moto debacle with this update smells like BS to me.
100% back you up on this one...I email them every day and all they keep saying os Q3...so I asked if that means we will get an update in 2 weeks and they don't have any idea...they keep contradicting themselves

I totally agree with you.... The only problem is all the manufacturers & providers do the same old BS..... new sales first & no accountability for old (6-12 minths) products.

I agree also x026092, The Razr came out shortly after the Bionic did and it has had ICS now for a few. They are dragging on ICS. Glad I pushed the last leak to my phone as I am loving ICS on the Bionic. The phone is so much better than it was before.

It was the bugs that the Razr experienced that have kept us from getting ICS on the Bionic.
The Bionic and the Razr's are nearly identical, except for the screen so they likely expected the same issues for us as for them. As far as I know, the Razr hasn't gotten their ICS fix yet and if they haven't, likely will when we get our ICS rolled out.
The thing is, though, that 90% of us on the leaks are not experiencing the issues that the RAZR users are. The only real issues are:
1) modified (read: dumbed down) webtop
2) inconsistent OCing across BIONIC phones
3) headphone whine issues (which were already prevalent before ICS leaks ever came out, meaning it is probably hardware related)
4) Random lockups and reboots in the first few days of running ICS
Bottom line - the benefits of the ICS (leaks) outweigh risks.
And as for seeing one in September - I called for a soak test this coming weekend. let's see if it happens.

Agreed John, but if they stopped dragging their feet, they would not be able to push their new phones & bury their old ones. Sales trumps customer satisfaction.
I have a feeling ICS will be like the bionic release. Pushed back and back until boom. It comes out and 2 months later there's something better. Vzw/moto seem to do everything like this.
I went ahead and looked at all the fun and neat things ICS has that GB does not.
No data drops.
1200 MHz.
Screen shots.
Face Unlock...
And more!
Sigh. Not sure why I did it, just really want that OTA update.... I know as soon as I use the leak, it'll get announced to go, though. lol. Just like washing the car and it rains...

Me too.
I've been thinking that for months. If I had known it would take this long I would have gone for the leaks. Still, I sit here thinking OTA is going to happen any day now.
I did try putting ICS (Altonus) on my OG Droid. It seems to work pretty well. It even has 1200MHz.
When the Motorola Droid Bionic was first announced at CES 2011, it featured a 4.3-inch qHD display, NVIDIA Tegra 2 dual-core processor clocked at 1GHz, and support for Verizon's 4G LTE high-speed network. After the handset was delayed, Motorola... Read More
