Confused Phone won't boot after replacing the ear speaker/camera ribbon

Hi,I just replaced my earpiece speaker/camera ribbon because of a bad speaker filled with metal shavings from work. I have tried 2 replacement speakers and neither will boot but just hang on the Motorola symbol. I install the original speaker and it boots just fine.
Is there an update or something else I need to do to get this replacement working? BTW the phone is a Motorola xt875 or Bionic w/ 4.04 ICS unrooted, unmolested, bone stock. The phone is almost 1 year old so I don't think its covered under warranty. Any thoughts?
Thank you in advance, Jake

Welcome to the forums jakeco. As far as whats going on with the speaker and booting up the only thing I can think of is that both speaker were defective. Are the speakers that you used after market? Your warranty is also good for 1 year so it might still be covered.
