Default What Are The First

Things to do getting a used phone. I know this probably sounds stupid, but I've only had one smartphone and the was my Dinc I bought in 2010 and the store set it all up for me. I'm grandfathered in and was going to buy a new phone cash- until I seen the prices and ran! lol So I should receive my used Bionic Wednesday and know I have to buy a new sim card....or will the one in my HTC work? Then, how do I transfer data from my old phone to the droid, like # & pics? Any help on a start up will be much appreciated. Since my phone is the only internet I have right now, I'll have to copy any insrtructions and tips before I deactivate my phone.

Thanks in advance!

When you get it ... first thing ... do a Factory Data Reset to get rid of anything that might be "lingering" on it. This is at System Settings | Privacy | Factory data reset.

Make sure you are running the latest system ... System Settings | About phone| System version should be 6.7.246.

Even without being activated you have WiFi access.

I don't know what SIM you are currently using. There are apparently two different sizes.

Does a SD-Ext card come with the phone you are getting? If not you will want to purchase one.

If got contacts are synced with your Google account then they will sync to your bionic when you sign in.

Your pictures you can copy to your computer and then copy them to your bionic when you get it.

No an SD-ext card doesn't come with it I don't thnk. Ok, I will do the factory reset the first thing, but would that wipe out any new updates that may be on it? Also, what kind of stuff could be "lingering"? I have the orignal HTC Droid Incredible and just guessing the sim card wouldn't interchange because of the htc being 3G.

Thanks

No, FDR will remove any and all personal user data from the phone but will not have any impact on the software itself.

Thanks that's good to know. I was talking to a guy today and he said since I was a VZW customer all I would have to do is buy the sim card and they would probably transfer all the data and all I needed for free. I guess I'll find out soon!

Something that the previous owner left there.

I would also verify that it was not root-ed.

Uh Oh, he never said either way and it was stupid on my part not to ask him. He said he only used it a few months but you really never know about buying of ebay. Is there a way to find out if it has been rooted?

Before you do an FDR download root checker from the play store and it will check for you. You can always follow my steps in http://androidforums.com/bionic-all-things-root/480176-how-flash-5-9-905-gb-6-7-246-ics-rsdlite.html thread instead of doing an fdr . It will completely wipe your phone and put it back to stock out of the box, like you bought it from Verizon. If you do this use the 6.7.246 fxz as it will put you on ICS.

Yes, there are a couple of things. Before you do the FDR look in the app drawer for either "Superuser" or "SuperSU" applications (I think those 2 are the most common ones). If either of those are there, that is a sign that the phone is rooted. The other thing to do would be download a root only app, like Titanium Backup and try to run it. TiBackup will not launch if it does not have root access and will tell you so.

You beat me to it OutOfPhase!

I agree 100% with OutOfPhase.

If I was going to do it I would do it the RSDLite way and know absolutely that I was back to a pristine state.

RSDLite is a big step for a lot of people. If you are not comfortable doing the RSDLite approach ... don't do it.

The Incredible does not have a sim card. It is a CDMA only device. You will need to go to verizon and they will program a 4G sim to your MIN/MDM for free. Hopefully the Bionic you bought is not stolen.

If you have an SD card in your DI you can use it in the Bionic but you are better off pulling the data off it and reformatting it before using it in the Bionic.

I sure hope it's not hot! Verizon checked the epn and said it was good and hope that includes theft. When I bring it in to get it programed as you suggested, I hope they don't confiscate it! Lol You make the second person that said the card is free and a young guy I talked to at the store said $10!! I think I'll go to another store when it comes in.

Thanks for the info!

Go to a verizon corp store not an authorized retailer.
