Verizon wireless site is now reporting that the Droid Maxx I ordered online on 8/2 has been shipped to arrive in two business days. No tracking number yet.

Pre-ordered 2 weeks ago. my card was finally charged last night, and Verizon site updated status. doesnt say shipped or have estimated ship date as 8/20 anymore, so I assume its either on its way, or close to shipping.

Same here and I won't have to (can't) put an extended battery in it. My Bionic sill still get pretty close to 24 hrs. of moderate use on the extended. 48 hours on the Maxx!!! that is incredible. I have preordered and today Verizon is saying it has been shipped and will be delivered in 2 business days. No tracking data yet.

It's a strange feeling being in a pre-release thread like this. Makes me wonder if I'm on the right track here.
Agreed, compared to the wild ride that was the Galaxy Nexus pre-release thread, it does seem like this thread has crickets in it. I'm excited about this phone, and already have clearance from Spousal Unit. I just want to wait for root before I get it, which hopefully won't be long after release.

As long as the internal storage isn't chopped up in some funky way like it was in the Razr Maxx, 32GB should be fine for me. Still not sure why phone manufacturers are going away from MicroSD cards and sticking with 16GB. I believe most of us would gladly pay a little more money for more internal storage and/or a MicroSD card slot, rather than monthly overage charges from our carrier for using too much data. At least that's the way I feel about it.

I too am buying the Maxx because of its near identicalness to the X and obvious benefits

Thanks for the reply. I know there's a few review phones out in the wild but didn't know if some developers have had their hands on one yet. If the Moto X and the Ultra/Maxx are as similar as they appear to be, hopefully once root is discovered for one it will be valid for all models.

I still get two days between charges with my Razr Maxx; I'm not a heavy power user so I should (hope to?) get 3 days on the Droid Maxx.

Interesting. Honestly, I don't know what the draw of the Ultra is, other than it being cheaper than the Maxx. It has less battery, less memory, and a crappy shiny plastic back. Yes, the Maxx is a bit thicker, but it's still not thick compared to what most of us are carrying now or have carried in the past, and I'd gladly make the tradeoff for the insane battery life of the Maxx.

If they do two day it should go out today. They may also overnight. I have had pre-orders before that said two day and they did overnight (reduces chance of early delivery). There system can be slow to update sometimes also. I am sure you will have it on Tuesday.

I think the hype is down for the droids just because of the marketing attention Googarola is giving to the X, plus the X being on multiple carriers. It appears the Droids spec wise are identical to the X with the Maxx having better build quality and battery.

I understand why some feel the way they do, especially as somebody who got burned in the whole Bionic fiasco. But that really was a different Motorola, and I just don't see Google letting these phones just wither on the vine with no support. The dev support may be a concern but with everything being so close to the X I think somebody will crack it. I don't root so that is not really a concern to me. I am excited for this phone and once I am able to hold one I likely will be buying.

I don't root either and this phone, even on Verizon, is close to vanilla android. I think that will make updates easier as they should be so close to the Moto X. The VZ website now has activated the order number rather than the pre-order number and says "in porcessing". Hopefully will receive it by Monday or Tuesday latest.

Interesting. I bet you pre-ordered from your computer. I pre-ordered on August 5th at the Verizon store and mine is being shipped there (sometime). What I was solving was not committing until I had a chance to handle it.

We just got our droid demo devices in 30 minutes ago in the store! I gotta say the maxx feels incredible in my hand too. The ergonomics from the x most certainly caried over!!! Guys this phone is epic. I cant post pics but if I get any alone time you guys can expect a mini album.

Built quality is outstanding. Weight feels dense and GOOD. Grip is great and size is very acceptable. Feels natural in my hand...

Thank you and great to hear. I have been researching phones for over a month looking for an upgrade for my Bionic. Samsung's feel cheap and I don't like touchwiz. Looked hard at the Moto X but Maxx has the same specs and features and I like the capacitive buttons in the chin rather than taking up screen space. Used to them on my Bionic. Great to hear from someone with hands on. Now I am really looking forward to Monday or Tuesday.

Also got the shipped email, and tracking #. It is not registiring yet as far as where the phone is, but iI know sometimes until the package is on the actual truck, it won't show. So getting closer. Coming from the Droid 4,I can not put into words how excited i am over not having to constantly charge my phone, be near a charger, or plug it in my car to get Four hours battery life. II'm sad to give up the keyboard but the charging frustration finally wore me down. Of all the phones iI have ever owned, this battery was epically bad.

alright so I just got off work, unfortunately no Pics today, the phones went in my bosses desk after i finished handling them but maybe tomorrow...

I just pre-ordered the Maxx after feeling it.

1. the carbon fiber feels similar to the Razr HD backing, not too glossy or anything.

2. the back is more flat than the X is but it does actually feel like it has a slight curve and fits VERY nicely in my hand.

3. the edges of the device have a much larger fillet on them resulting in great comfort while holding, it doesn't feel like its digging into my finger tips or palm after constant holding... again VERY comfortable.

4. the screen, at 5.0 and 'only' 720p is JUST as good as my S4 screen, literally had them side by side and because its non-pentile it just looked superb, colors are better and more accurate on the Maxx than my S4 as well.

5.weight, as mentioned feels PERFECT IMHO. it feels dense and 'tough' like it has some heft to it and can handle an average day without a case no problem. its not too heavy to annoy the wrist but certainly enough to let you know your holding onto something nice.

6. buttons, the volume and power buttons feel great, they click well and stick out just the right amount.

7. Camera, exact same as the X, didn't have time to change settings but captures images with no blur and good quality in average lighting conditions.

8. speaker, im honestly kinda shocked at how good it sounds, certainly louder than my s4 and the quality is a step or 2 above my s4 as well.

all in all im EXTREMELY excited for this phone now and cannot wait to ditch my S4 and be the owner of a Droid Maxx, this phone is pure awesome and you can EASILY tell where moto spent its time.. everything moto put into this phone went into user experience, PERIOD.

That was my biggest concern.

First of all, thank you for the details. If you get a chance and are up for answering a few questions, I'd like to know:

1. How does the WiFi notification in the notification shade work. Always there? Dismissible? Is it there when connected to WiFi? Is it there even when WiFi is off?

2. Is the People (contacts) app stock Android? It has a non-stock icon, so I am curious if they did anything to it.

3. Are any of the built in bloat (MyVZW, VZNav, VZSecurity, etc..) apps "disable-able" by going into the Applications menu?

Some reviews show the WiFi notification being there, others don't. My OCD can't stand little nags like that. It's not a huge deal if you can't answer so don't go out of your way, would just like to know if perhaps you know the answer off the top of your head. Thanks again for the info. Cheers!

great questions. to be completely honest i actually don't know the answer to any of those off the top of my head haha, ill try to get a hold of it tomorrow and play with it again and figure those things out if i can...

my assumptions though

1. wifi signal strength SHOULD NOT be there when not connected to wifi...
2. contacts app is BLUE in color but I honestly didn't dig into it much. ill see if its different tomorrow but i doubt it.
3. current devices do allow for VZ apps to disabled so again i would assume yes

I only have one issue with capacitive buttons and was wondering if you could answer if this phone does it also. Do they stay lit when watching videos from Netflix or YouTube? I work nights and watch a lot of videos and loved my gnex for not having them. It's the one issue I have with my DNA.

Thank you, really appreciate it.

To clarify my point on question one, I am talking about the ongoing notification that appears on shade when you pull it down from the top as seen in this photo on some newer Verizon devices. On certain Verizon Android devices since the Galaxy S3 launched, that notification is impossible to get rid of permanently without rooting. When WiFi is off, it says tap to turn WiFi on. When WiFi is on and connected, it will then update its text to say which WiFi network you are connected to. In either case, it's always there.

I am not referring to the signal strength indicator icon (the waves icon) that appears in the top right hand corner near the time and cell signal strength indications.

Thank you again.

Mine should have been arriving Monday to. But thanks to the idiots at Verizon now it's not. I don't know why I even bothered to come back to them.

Boy I cannot believe with 8/20 fast approaching that the Maxx forum isn't bouncing with excitement. All the goodies of the Moto X AND a 5" screen AND a killer battery? I haven't been this excited for a phone in quite some time. 8/20 can't get here fast enough for me and I will be at my local VZW store when it opens!

The Maxx is SO going to be my next phone.
note 3 prerelease rumored specs are so much better i cannot wait to replace my maxx hd

i'd get it if I was ok with using a phablet as a phone. Also, if i didn't hate samsung after the gnex experience.

how was your experience with the maxx hd though? I always kicked myself for buying into the gnex hype and not waiting for the original maxx, or hell even the rezound was a much better phone at the time.

If I recall correctly I believe he reported that somehow Verizon cancelled his order and he would have to wait until the second wave if he was to re-preorder. But what I don't understand is that he could just pick one up in-store if he really wanted it Tuesday. I am assuming these should be an easy scoop on Tuesday, but maybe I'm wrong...

Just checking in on this thread to see if anyone's pre-orders have arrived or not. If so we need pictures and updates; good, bad and otherwise!

Just arrived off the FedEx truck. Haven't had time to play with it yet, but will hopefully have some time later.

Laggy, poor color on screen, battery same as tbolt with extended battery, lousy camera.

I stopped by my local VZW corporate store on my way home from work today. They had the Maxx, Ultra (Red back) and Ultra (Black back) on display. First things first, the Ultra is UNCOMFORTABLE in hand. It's too thin. The Maxx feels and looks incredible.

I tested it opening webpages (phonedog and phandroid) vs. my Gnex. It loaded webpages 2-3 seconds faster than my Gnex.

I also took a photo with my Gnex and the Maxx for comparison's sake. It's a quick shot but it gives a little context. I also took photos of the apps pre-installed in the app drawer.

This is taken with my Genx:

I also asked about pricing because I know some had heard that it would cost $350 with a $50 mail in rebate. At my store (because I can't speak for everyone) I was told that it will be $299.99 and that there is a $349.99 bundle that they can sell me but the phone itself is $299.99.

I asked if he could sell it to me tonight and he said as much as he'd like to because he's on commission, he can't until tomorrow. I explained that tomorrow is only a little more than an hour away since they close soon. He laughed and said let me see what I can do. He came back with good news. He said that he can sell it to me at $999,999 tonight or I can wait and buy it for $299.99 tomorrow. He said that the computer has the above price in now when he tries to ring it up.

I decided that I would wait.

I think I'll be picking this phone up tomorrow, I just really wish that there were some more reviews of it available. I jumped into my Droid X blind though, and that was really a fantastic device. Looking forward to getting back on a Motorola device after using my Galaxy Nexus.

Thanks for the images and info. My Maxx is being delivered tomorrow and it is good to hear positive reviews. I thought the Ultra might be a little thin to be comfortable in the hand and I wanted the 32 Gb memory in the Maxx.

I honestly don't think I will regret this phone regardless of what comes out over the next 6 months, that is unless it becomes a lemon for some reason.

If it weren't for battery and signal strength (and broken port) my Gnex would be fine. I have the extended battery and I usually have at least ONE of the original batteries with me when I'm going to be away from a charger (usually two others).

I didn't so a side by side comparison of the S4 with this phone, but honestly, I don't need to. The S4 seems like it's going to be more of the same that I currently have (with a few more bells and whistles minus the pure Google experience).

The only way I can see this phone coming back in the 14 day trial period is if they lied about 48 hours battery life. If it's within 36 hours and it's as peppy as it seems to be, I'm going to be one happy camper.

CBF, you made my night. I was SERIOUSLY freaked out by this. $299 is pushing my financial limit right now.... that extra $50 would have been a hard thing to swallow.

I am psyched beyond words.

Good point. The battery life on the GNex is a huge problem for me and probably one of the big reasons for me going to the Maxx. I have terrible reception at work and in class and my GNex would be crying for mercy after 4-5 hours, even with an extended battery.

I plan on buying the Bumper Case for my Maxx tomorrow. It's $19.99 and I really like the idea of leaving my kevlar backing visible.

Oh I completely agree. This is the phone other manufacturers will be copying for the next couple of years.

You know, I think it's kind of sad. Here we are on release day, and not ONE review by any of the major tech websites. I just checked Engadget, TheVerge, Droid-Life, Droiddog. Nothing. All have had the Moto X review up for a week now, and it's still three days from release. And, it's a lesser phone than the Maxx.

I find that curious.

I agree, it's almost if VZ made a deal to get their phones by allowing Moogle to push the Moto X more. From what I see the Moto X needs all the pushing it can get to compete with the Maxx. I'll know today.

Now I'm just sitting here waiting until it's time to head to the store. I can't even play World of Warcraft while I'm waiting because it's down for maintenance day. LOL.

This phone is not getting the push because moto will get more bang for the buck on advertising the X because it is across all carriers. Plus when you walk into Verizon and ask about the x the reps will just say we also have the maxx which is the same device with a bigger battery and screen.

Well aside from the pushy sales chicks that wouldn't take no for an answer, I'm a VERY happy Droid Maxx owner!! OMG it was worth the wait. The screen. I was worried about the screen. OMG it is gorgeous. Crisp and bright.

I don't think I've stopped smiling since I left the VZW store.

Edit: Ugh. Slight disappointment. The Droid Command Center widget does not work on Nova Launcher.
