Default Droid Maxx Bug Reports and Problems

I thought it would be nice to have a place to list any bugs or problems with the Maxx as they arise.

Use this thread to list any bugs or problems. Sometimes they aren't bugs at all, they are features you're not sure how to use and they come across as bugs, other times they are in fact bugs that should be reported.

I have a spot on my display near the bottom right of the screen that I can see two small dark spots under the glass. I can only see them when the screen is off and only when I tilt it to see the glass in the reflection. They look like a snake bite. I used a dead pixel app and can't see any dead pixels. Just wondering what it is and what caused it. I also may take it into Verizon to have them look at it prior to my 14 days to make sure that it's documented that it is there from the beginning.

SMS and MMS are not getting ring tones. Vibrate does work though. I went thru all sound settings in the main settings menu and within the text app. Sounds are all on but no go. I'm trying not to do a hard reset because it took me so long to set it up and download personal files etc

Found the issue. Text messages are tied to the notification volume in the settings app. So check settings > volumes > notifications. Cheers!

Changed the default notification tone back to none. Back to normal now. Thanks for the help!

I find it weird that the phone volume and the notification volume don't have a "lock" option so they would work in sync. They're independent of each other.

If you set a reminder, it says something to the effect that "to edit your reminders go to Settings > My Stuff." I cannot find "My Stuff."

I wish that when you're using the hands free for texting it would automatically send your texts. Perhaps a way to manually turn on car mode?

Using the camera to take pictures of a camp fire at night is virtually useless. I don't know if it's that clear pixel tech or what, but you get a HORRIBLE red/purple vignette that flickers with the fire. I know this is not your every day use for a camera so I won't complain too much, just something I noticed. I did try HDR on and off and it didn't change the result.

It's in Google Now. Either activate Google Now with the widget, or long-press home and drag up to the "Google" circle. Then scroll to the bottom, press the three dot menu on the right, next to "Show more cards", and settings->my stuff.

I'm not sure if you've noticed but Verizon has added MULTIPLE phone numbers into your phone book. When you try to delete them it gives you a notification that says you can not delete these numbers but you can hide them. The numbers were, data check, upgrade check, verizon, tech help, etc.

I'm SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO particular about my phone book. Every contact has to have pictures and a purpose to be there. When I was editing my contacts last night I found them.

REALLY? REALLY VERIZON?!?!

Have you tried recording in 1080p and touching the screen while it's recording to take photos? Might get a better result. Just a thought. Let me know if it works.

1. vibrate mode on this phone is like "force vibrate for every app!" rather than "turn sounds off and keep vibration preferences per app" (how it was on stock rooted unlocked android). I don't want my gmail or my freaking tapa talk to vibrate. ever. Also, the vibration patterns themselves are different. There's no long dash vibrate. Just patterns of dot vibrate.

2. bluetooth audio is...touchy. if i'm listening to BTA, and it's working, i just leave it alone. trying to do touchless control sometimes messes the BTA music up. Also, navigation sounds sometimes don't come through the BTA. Although they did after turning notification sounds up (wtf?).

Hey, Verizon had to make up for the lack of branding on the front of the phone somehow... All joking aside, it makes me think that Verizon has raised the control freak bar to another level if they don't let you delete phone numbers. I'm sure there are bookmarks that can't be deleted either.

Try light flow. It might be able to help with individual notifications even though we have no light on this phone... I loved it with my RAZR.

In People, hit the menu. Contacts to display. Hit customize. Turn off preset contacts.

I have not tried that, but I will! Thanks

Edit: This is good of a place to ask as any and I don't want to start a whole new thread... I guess that 50 gigs of Google Drive for two years was a rumor? I haven't seen a thing about it.

I believe that's for the Moto X only. The Droids get the Google Music deal.

Boy am I having a weird problem I cannot solve.

It started last night using the hands free voice activation in the car. I did have the Driving Assist thing turned on. When I was using the "Ok Google Now" command and sending my wife a text, she was getting it twice. It was only showing on my text app as going out once. So I tried disabling the Driving Assist, and it still did it.

I fussed with settings all night last night and couldn't come up with a solution. Since I'm not that far into having it set up, I figured I'd do a factory reset and see if it corrects the problem. I sent texts last night using hands free, and it worked perfectly.

I did not turn Driving Assist on at all. I didn't even go into the program.

This morning driving to work, I texted her using hands free, double texts again. If I'm in the text message app and click the mic on the keyboard, it works fine. If I use "Ok Google Now" she's getting two texts.

I have no idea what to try next.

P.S. Factory reset on this thing wipes EVERYTHING. Even the stuff you have in memory (songs, pics, etc.).

With Active Notifications turned on, does the screen seem to randomly activate for anyone else? I know it's supposed to activate when you take the phone out of your pocket or off the desk, but it seems to blink the screen on and off every few seconds at random if it's just sitting there on the desk. Did I get a unit with a bad accelerometer/proximity sensor, or is it just a bit sensitive to vibrations?

I think if you have an active, unread notification it will continue to pulse.

Maxx resting on my computer table (wood) ... drop something on other end of table ... sometimes the Maxx will wake up. Vibrations are passed along from one spot but not another.

The double text problem is a known bug in Google Now, apparently. You either live with it and wait for Google to fix it, or you don't use Google Now to send texts.

I'm new to android and the forum but I'm having a problem with inconsistent sounds on my notifications. One minute it will work and then it just stops. Anyone else notice this?

I fixed it, but I'm not overly happy with the solution.

It must be something corrupt in your Google account. I created a whole new Gmail, factory reset the phone, logged in under the new one. Works perfectly.

I did link my old account, but forced it to only sync Gmail and Drive. I've bought dozens of apps I wouldn't have access to otherwise. But... I hate having two accounts on one phone.

Edit. Scratch that. It didn't work. This is making me unhappy. Unless even the partial link to my old account is what screwed it, because it was working.

Edit yet again. It wasn't even the old account. I made yet another Gmail account, factory reset it again, and set it up only with the brand new account. It still doubled the texts.

Hi everyone, first post but semi-long time reader. I've enjoyed my Maxx, but something has happened to me twice that seems like a slight issue (or my stupidity)...

I'm driving in "driving" mode and a text comes in. It connects to my car and asks if I want to hear it (say "listen"), I do, and it works. Then another text comes in immediately, and it doesn't play from my car speakers, it just plays from the phone speakers. After I read the text on the phone and exit out, radio doesn't come back on unless I shut off bluetooth manually. It was like the bluetooth was unable to process consecutive text messages?

I'm driving in "driving" mode and a text comes in. It connects to my car and asks if I want to hear it (say "listen"), I do, and it works. Then another text comes in immediately, and it doesn't play from my car speakers, it just plays from the phone speakers. After I read the text on the phone and exit out, radio doesn't come back on unless I shut off bluetooth manually. It was like the bluetooth was unable to process consecutive text messages?
I had similar issues with my Gnex using bluetooth in my car. Sometimes it would lock the radio volume down all the way and wouldn't let it turn up without manually turning off and back on bluetooth. I'm not sure why it does that but I can definitely identify with your frustration. Hopefully this does not become an issue with our Maxx.

Default Apps not appearing on Task Switcher

This was new in 4.1 or 4.2 on my Gnex. I wanted it when it wasn't there, and have used it frequently since then.

I'm in Chrome Beta (for instance), it's goofing up, so from the app, I press my Task Switcher button, the list pops up, Chrome Beta is on the bottom (last app used), I swipe it away, the app closes and I get dumped into my home screen where I can relaunch it, fresh.

With the Maxx, not all the time, when I do this, the current app isn't there. Or sometimes an app I have open and active in the background isn't to be found on the list. Other times an app I was using just one or two apps previously isn't there. It's not happening consistently, but it is happening with regularity.

I'm actually on my second Maxx. On the first one the speaker was totally shot. Certain notifications came through sounding like the old electronic Battleship.

Maxx part two is still not always making a sound when a new text arrives and the green messaging smile face doesn't have the number of new texts next to it. I'm trying really hard to adopt Android and its quirks but this may be more trouble than its worth.

My iphone 5 had more glitches than my 4 but it still seemed more reliable than the Maxx. Receiving notifications on a cell phone is pretty standard stuff. I can live without being able to forward calendar invites but text messaging?

You can download a counter app that displays number of messages next to the icon.

To forward a text, long press the message and a menu will pop up.

If you go to Settings | About phone what is the System version?

Is it 12.7.7 or 12.7.4?

I have the Droid Maxx and it has shut off/powered off randomly three times already. Once, the battery was fully charged and I was not using the phone. Once the battery was at about 50-55% and I was on a social networking site and this last time I was in the middle of a phone call and the battery was at 30%. Has anyone else had this issue? The last time it shut down on me, when I started it back up it was saying it was formatting the sim card for my new phone???????? I cut it back off because it never came off that screen and when I cut it back on, it's working again.

Not yet but I'm leaning that way. I love the long battery life but it does me no good if the thing doesn't stay on. I was thinking of going to the Razr Maxx HD but Verizon doesn't sell that anymore. Was also considering the Galaxy S4

I can't text any size video. Is there a setting I need to change?

I was unclear. I suggest you go to the Verizon store, report your problem, and have them replace it (with another Maxx).

Texting video is weird. The only way I've succesfully done it is to go into the message app. Pick the person you want to send it to. Click on the paper clip at the top. Then "capture video." Then record what you want to send. Then send it.

Sending stuff you've already captured never works for me.

Here's a solution. When you take a video click share then save it to Drive. Then you can attach that to any SMS that you want.

I recognize that this seems ridiculous to have to do for video sharing but it's probably more efficient in the long run. It takes longer to send a video MMS but if you upload it you can send it out much more quickly to as many people as you want to.

Odd thing happened battery was at 38% at 2 days 4hours I started looking at some of the music albums I had and the low battery warning came on. Battery went down to 3% in less then a minute and went to zero about five minutes after that. Its like it just hit a wall and went strait down while just watching the battery progress. It's now charging up from zero.

I'm not a particular fan of this sort of methodology. It seems like just another way for them to secretly own something you did. Looks like I'll just have to capture videos through the messaging at first, if I plan to share them out.

When creating new battery stats that can happen. Run through the battery a couple of times and you should be good.

At 19% my phone shut down completely and would not charge or cut back on. Finally got it to charge and cut on. I took it to Verizon and was offered a refurb?? The phone was 9 days old....I returned the Maxx and switched to a Galaxy S4. I probably just got a "bad" phone on the Maxx but certainly didn't was a refurb after paying full retail price for the phone.

Good call. I'm betting your problematic Maxx will be the "refurb" they pawn of on the next guy who walks through the door.

And there's no shame in owning an S4. Seems like a solid device. Did you get the 32GB model?
