Default Isis on the Maxx

I was wondering if anyone had tried using Isis on the Maxx. is it as convenient as using google wallet used to be?

Isis is convenient to use, just like using a carp to play the fiddle. Really, it's severly lacking. It only works with two major credit cards, Chase and American Express. It doesn't work with any debit cards. It's a sad excuse of an application.

Sure Verizon is blocking Google Wallet, okay. Well then, you offer Isis, great I'll give that a go. What, I don't have Chase or Amex cards? Isis is nowhere near the quality that Google Wallet could offer.[/RANT]

I have Amex and Chase cards. I have no interest in paying for anything from my phone. Current payment methods seem to be working just great. Both Isis and Google Wallet are fixing problems that I don't seem to have.

To actually answer your question, unlike these people before me, yes I use it all the time and it is super easy.

Have had zero issues so far.

Here's a link to a thread on XDA where ISIS is working on a Maxx. I haven't done this yet to my phone, and it's not clear from the thread whether the Secure Element SIM is required -- I heard it was only available in the two ISIS test markets, SLC & San Antonio.

I do have to agree with doogald that payment by NFC doesn't really bring much to the table. That said, I've been a huge fan and regular user of Google Wallet on my VZW Gnex since launch, even signed up for the Citi MasterCard that was originally the only credit card to work with that service.

Peet's Coffee, 7-Eleven, Walgreens, my auto mechanic -- I'd use that thing everywhere I could. Does it really offer any advantages over a card swipe? Not really. Having to unlock the phone and enter my GW PIN in some ways made it more inconvenient, and occasionally the clerk or the reader would be problematic.

But in theory, there's an added element of security, since my card isn't out there to be read and later replicated. But that's more of a threat at gas stations (which I haven't seen take NFC payments), or in restaurants where the server takes the card back behind the counter (I'm not handing over my phone!).

My last Google Wallet NFC transaction? Verizon Wireless, to purchase my Maxx. "Cool, I've never seen that before" said the Verizon girl. Gosh, really? I wonder why. :/

Thanks I installed it but haven't had a chance to set anything up. Guess I don't have much to set up since I don't have a chase or amex card.

People here aren't giving ISIS any credit, It will be launching nationally soon probably with more options for credit cards, It's backed by the major mobile carriers, The number 1 thing why its better than google wallet is the offers on there. There are so many great deals such as $1 barbacoa combo meals, $1 beans and brew drink, Free jamba juice drinks (don't even need a credit card on the app, Lots of free offers or very huge discounts on items. Google wallet can't match this with their offers.

So all in all once it launches nationally it will be the #1 choice IMO, lets just hope they also give the option to put any card on there.

Google can't match it because the carriers won't let us use it. Hardly fair competition.

I think its just the carriers agreeing that ISIS is more secure is why they back it and not google wallet. Also with ISIS you have to have a special SIM card with the secure element attached.

That's because they store payment information in the phone (well, ok, on the secure element inside the SIM).

Google Wallet stores payment info on their end, do there's no security risk if the phone is hacked. At least, no different than any other financial or retail site storing payment/account info.

The carriers like ISIS because
- it's their system
- it's a foot in the door of the profitable online payment system
- it removes power/influence from Google, eliminating a bargaining chip that could be used against them when negotiating contracts

Does anyone who has ISIS installed having any problem using it with merchants? I used Google wallet with my Gnex but that won't work on the Maxx. I finally got ISIS installed (and it wasn't easy for me at least) and now I need to try it someplace. Do you think it will work in the same places as Google wallet?

I have used it at least twenty times so far. Only issue I have had is when the place I am at is having issues. Like a broken reader. I love it, very easy to use and fast

Okay, so just speculation and rumor here. But it looks like Motorola could be releasing KitKat soon on their recent phones Trick or Treat which means that the DROID Maxx, Mini, and Ultra get it.

With the new 4.4 update comes a workaround for Google Wallet to use NFC Tap and Pay Android 4.4 Feature: NFC Payments No Longer Require Secure Element, Use Emulation Workaround

I think that's pretty much the death knell for Isis. Personally, I say good riddance.

Because I have no use for it. It's a half hearted attempt at a replacement for Google Wallet. I say half hearted because it only works with two [insert explitive] credit cards. I would be cool with otherwise. Besides, I hate the fact that Verizon et al. just decided to block off Google Wallet.

Edit: At any rate, this is pretty much over because it is confirmed that the DROIDs 3 (Mini, Maxx, and Ultra) will receive the upgrade soon. Meaning that Google Wallet Tap and Pay will be set free!
