Default MHL

From the apparent non-functionality of the adapter I just bought, I am I to guess correctly that the Droid Maxx does not support MHL? Is there an app I can use, or perhaps a future update is in the works?

None of the new Droids support MHL. It's a hardware limitation, so a software update won't change it. Your options are basically Chromecast or Miracast.
