I ordered my wife's Maxx a day or two days before Christmas, and the description listed 4.4 KitKat. But the phone showed up with an old 4.2 version installed (a pre-12.15.15 version).

Verizon has approved an update to 4.4 and announced that the Droids would receive the update starting Dec 19. The last official update that I saw from Verizon and Motorola is that the update is continuing to roll out, slowly. What *seems* to have happened is that several people had an issue with the update, so the update was stopped, and there are rumors that there is a new test about to begin.

So, a Maxx without 4.4 is just waiting for the update to resume at this point.

FWIW, I have 4.4 on my phone. It's running fine.
