I was at the Moto event today in NYC. It's actually a nice little phone, but to most people's point, doesnt serve much purpose. Battery life is supposedly great though.
They gave every person there a free one with free 4G service... Got one in white.

My wife is probably going to get this phone, as its smaller form factor is something she is looking for. Other than the qHD screen, the rest of the specs are great.

Couple of quick questions:
1) Does it have a notification LED? Is it as good as the one on the original Droid Razr?
2) What's the deal with the quick settings screen that you get to by swiping left? Is it just where when you swipe all the way left it brings up a settings page?
Thanks man. I'm really excited about this phone. Finally a phone with high end specs that is not freaking enormous. Might cause me to switch back to big red.

hey, so to answer your questions--
1) yes, has a small blue/purple notification led in the upper left corner.
2) just like in the iphone when you swipe left it comes up with the spotlight page. it's similar here and it works very well.
honestly, I'm an iphone guy but I was very impressed with this phone. LTE speeds were blazing, typing was a breeze and while the screen wasn't quite as good as the iphone or galaxy s3 by any stretch, it was a good compact phone with a big screen. much better than the other droids out there. I got to play with the droid razr maxx hd too and that screen is great. cameras need some work though.

If you have the phone sitting flat on a desk, do you have to be staring directly down at the LED to be able to see it, or can you see it from an angle?
I am really loving this phone and I have a RAZR Maxx currently. While I would have loved to have seen an HD screen I don't mind what I'm dealing with now so I'm o.k. there. What is drawing me in is the size. I have never loved the size of the Maxx.
So OP...can you comment on the battery life after you've had some time? Because now that I AM so spoiled by the Maxx battery, that is a deal breaker for me.
I would seriously consider "downgrading" to the M if I thought I could still get a full day use out of the M like I do the Maxx. I don't need it to have 50% left at the end of the day, but I need to feel confident I CAN get through the day.

Thanks.
I used it for a few hours almost straight through yesterday from 2pm-6pm and then a couple hours at night and it still had 85% battery. I downloaded a movie on LTE and used it as a hotspot too for the evening while my fiancee was on her laptop, using the M as the wifi source. Overally I'm very impressed with the battery. Part of the presentation that the CEO of Moto did yesterday was to highlight the massive battery life that all three of the new devices will get.

Wow this sounds VERY promising. Please come back and post any updates/more detail as you can. I'd have probably stayed with my Maxx or even purchased a white maxx HD if it was available. A white M is looking pretty darn good to me right now.

yeah, the white maxx hd looked very very nice. got to play with it for a few minutes. here's a pic.
You might be looking at the face sensor thing. I believe the LED is on the left.
Right. The thing on the left is massive compared to the LED light on the One series. The LED light on the one series is literally the size of a pin-head.

sorry youre right. meant to say razr hd, not maxx for the white pic i posted.
How do you feel about screen brightness/contrast compared to your other phone (I guess you have iPhone)?. And how close is white screen to real white?
Screen is pretty nice for a "lower end" phone and whites are not all the way there, but close. It does get a bit pixely when there is very tiny text that shows up... I can try to take a pic later of it. Obv not as good as the s3, iphone screen, but it's still bright, does the job.

Thanks. Some folks on Razr HD forum are hoping it will have better, brighter screen than S3. So that doesn't sound very convincing unless screen on HD is better than M not just in size.
And how do you feel about its camera? Moto was quiet about it during Razr HD presentation unlike HTC, Samsung, Nokia bragging about it with One X, GS3, Lumia 920. I am not expecting its camera to outdo iPhone or GS3, but it shouldn't suck either. It would be nice if you can upload some samples.

The razr hd maxx that i saw does have a pretty convincing screen. hard to say if it's better than the s3. the blacks were notably very good..
Is the boot time incredibly fast like I saw in an "unboxing" video on another site?
I booted it up from being totally off and it took 35 seconds. Not that great. There is a big intro sequence though that is a "droid" video like you see in some of the commercials. probably unnecessary, but it looks cool. and then once it's powered on and you can unlock it, it still seems to take about another 20 seconds for it to find a 4g signal.

Doesn't seem like much, but if you ever reboot your phone it seems like it takes forever on a current razr Of course the radios aren't active on the lock screen, but the M seems like a speedy phone!
Wow, that is one potent little package right there. Haha, for the first time in my marriage my wife will have a better phone than me. Wait, what am I saying haha for? Thats not funny!
Like/Thanks/Tip, WTF? LOL Just click them all! Number of views into this forum area are impressive and these are people actively looking for good on this phone, probably not your typical isheep persona.

It's funny how a 4.3" screen is now consider a "little" phone. Apple better step up their game. 3.5" is micro now by comparison.
The M is pretty much the same form factor as the Droid X. It's a very good size...one my wife prefers. The droid x was missing LTE and a front facing camera.
The RAZR M *is* what the DX3 should have been.
The M has the same size screen as the RAZR and RAZR Maxx but doesn't have the stupid bezel all the way around the screen like the RAZR does. The RAZR reminds me of the early plasma TVs with the huge bezel. Same size screen as a Droid X in a useless much larger body.
If they'd come out with the X after the RAZR, we'd all be saying "ooh, look how much smaller the droid X is than the RAZR". Yet when I was looking at a RAZR in a Verizon store and pointed out how much bigger it looks and feels than the DX I was holding in my other hand, the sales guys said, "ya, but look how thin it is". I'm not trying to cut bread with my phone. I need an efficient form factor for whatever screen it has, not some big 90s style fugly bezel.

DROID X is actually much bigger than razr m. X is 127.5mm tall and 65.5mm wide. Razr m is 122.5mm tall and 60.9mm wide. 5mm may not sound like a lot, but it makes a HUGE difference in your hand.

Sure, but my point is that that RAZR was just the opposite.
Note, the only reason the M is shorter than X is becasue it doesn't have the physical keys any more. It uses part of the 4.3" screen instead leaving less real estate on the M than the X.
Still the M is about as edge to edge as you get. It's faster, smaller, and lighter than the MAXX. It's also cheaper. I can't think of any reason why the RAZR or RAZR Maxx would sell a single phone after you can get the M. The M does everything better and faster with the same size screen but a smaller form factor.
I am looking at this phone for my daughter.
what is the available amount of room for apps and such.
It has 8GB of built-in storage, so you'll probably see somewhere around 6GB that's available for you to use. Then there's a microSD card slot that you can use to add more space for media.

Pocket now review claims that the notification led only works for low battery. Can you confirm that it also works for email, messages, missed calls, etc., or is pocket now actually correct?

It is possible, but that goes against every Motorola phone I have ever seen.
Is anyone seeing accessories for the "M" yet? I'm not finding anything on Amazon and Ebay. I expected the third party phone accessories people to get out in front and be ready for the release. In particular I'm looking for a hard case, screen protector and car charger.
I'm planning to lay hands on the "M" at the local Verizon store today. I'm currently using the Inc2 so the "M" looks like a strong upgrade in every respect. Still, you gotta see'm in person to really know

If you look in the video thread there are some of the desk and car docks. I've seen nothing about cases or screen protectors, but I'm sure Verizon will have some soon if they don't already.
As far as the screen protector goes the phone does have Gorilla Glass. Everyone is different in how they treat their phone s I'm just throwing that out there.

Thanks for the reply. I'm very kind to my phones so a screen protector is probably not necessary. A case seems prudent though. I expect the Verizon reps will have accessories to sell for $$$ (I'll confirm that later).
By the way, interesting moniker and avatar. Are you into the Twilight series?

Oh, I'm sure they will have plenty of high dollar accessories for you. Since this phone looks like it was designed to go straight at the iPhone 5 I can imagine that accessories will be abundant at some point.
As far as Twilight goes, no. Real vampires don't sparkle.
So I bought the phone today, I just picked up the Verizon screen protectors, because my favorite, Zagg, hasn't released one for the phone yet. I hate the VZW ones, but they will get the job done. Motorola has a decent accessory pack through Verizon, has that nice flip stand, plus a car dock and extra charger...

Care to quote what that accessory pack set you back?
Edit: I was able to get the prices for various accessories at the VZW website so ignore above :-)

The Motorola DROID RAZR M comes as the mid-end smartphone among the new RAZR family. A lower price usually means sacrificing a great deal of features, but Motorola managed to make a very capable device with a $99 price-tag. The device features the ... Read More
