NFC/Android Beam not working

So my fraternity brother got the S3 and since we both have NFC I wanted to see if we could transfer a file using it.

We tried so many times, we got the phones to vibrate, but it wouldn't beam anything. Tried with a Galaxy Nexus too and none of us could get a file to transfer. Is there something we're missing?

I can't even get mine to pop up with the "touch to send" thing.

What the heck are we doing wrong? lol

i have never tried the NFC thing, i think you have to have the file you want to send ready to be sent

Same issue here. Upon enabling NFC it says to bump phones, tap the screen, and the currently opened app will decide which content is meant to be sent. I viewed a pic in Gallery (have yet to try from another app), bumped phones (both vibrated), tapped my screen. Nothing happened. NFC is certainly something I could live without, but it'd be nice to know what I'm doing in case I feel like showing off! :P
