Exclamation Headphone jack problems

I've had my RAZR for about 3 weeks now, and I just developed a problem with the headphone jack. It worked fine every day, until now.

If the connector is twisted or nudged in any way, it will lose its connection. It seems to snap securely, and I cannot push it any further.

This is very frustrating because I usually stream music through headphones each day.

Anyone else with the problem?

Dumb question, but have you tried different head phones? I've definitely ruined a few pairs of earbuds pulling them from my pocket too hard. I'm sure you would agree that it would be much nicer to only need new headphones than a new headphone jack.

i haven't had it yet, but i'm paranoid about it after coming from my original droid with a horrible headphone jack. I'd think this is covered under the warranty at this point.

I would definitely try this.

I used to listen to music on my 3GS iphone all the time, with the phone in my pocket. Eventually the sound started giving out, I thought it was the jack on the phone, like you.

Turns out it was the earbuds, they got 'bent' right at the plug and caused them to cut out randomly. Try new buds.

I get this. It's not a nudge in any direction though, only to the left or right. It's very annoying for me as well as I use my phone to listen to music and podcasts on my commute.

While I'm listening to music, I have the phone in my jacket pocket and any time I take it out to fiddle with it, the headphone jack invariably gets nudged and the phone acts like I've taken the headphones out.

My audio out port (headphone jack) isn't working, regardless of what set of headphones I plug in. I don't know if it's a hardware problem (the port is messed up) or a software problem (the phone is refusing to route sound to the headphones or audio cable, and instead keeps playing out of the phone's speaker). But in any case, when I plug anything in, the phone doesn't even notice - it keeps playing out of the phone's speaker.

I know this is a totally separate process, but bluetooth still works fine.

If you carry your phone in your pocket, check the headphone jack for lint. I've gotten bit by this one. A straightened out paper clip works pretty good to clean it out.

Default Spot on fix to the headphone jack issue!!

Thanks for the tip on the headphone jack connection issue! I have been annoyed by my Droid 3 headphone jack connection being touchy for the last several months. It was getting nearly useless this week. I used the paper clip recommendation to pull a few "chunks" of lint out of the 3.5mm jack and then cleaned around each of the grooves of the connector. It works perfectly now! I can spin the plug 360 degrees within the jack and the connection never breaks. Like some previous posters, I had tried multiple headphones with this phone and those same headphones with other devices. The problem area was always with the phone. In the past, I have had several wire issues with the plugs themselves, but I can confidently say this issue was a dirty 3.5mm jack and not frayed or loose wires on the plug.

Thanks again Knuckledragger!

Default And don't forget to try a simple reboot

I had exactly this problem -- earbuds cutting out making every streaming song unbearably choppy. No lint, just frustration. Took my Droid3 to the VZW store expecting to put in a warranty claim and just as a matter of course the service rep encouraged me to pop open the back, pull the battery, put it back together and try one more time. I'll be darned if my music didn't stream perfectly. It makes NO sense at all why this problem could be a software thing remedied by a reboot. But I'm a believer now. For those who are lint-free and still at your wits end, try this simple step. Crazy, but it sure helped me.

I have the same problem. I tried various headphones to no avail. I made it work once by moving the jack around.

Mu sic just plays through the speaker instead of headphones.

I had same problem with the headphone jack after a couple of weeks that I bought my RAZOR.
After searching and examining the phone I found the solution; THERE WAS LINT INSIDE THE HEADPHONE JACK!!!!!!! plug would not go in all the way anymore....

I used a strong reading glasses (magnifier) , a head band flashlight, and a precision (very small) screwdriver.
I could see some whiteish object in the bottom of the hole.
just go ahead and work gently with the screw driver, trying to move the withe object until it comes to the top of the hole, push that out and walla!!! You got yourself a working headphone jack again.
That hole is way to big and lint will easily go in.....

That's why I like my Otterbox case. It has cover flaps to cover the usb, hdmi and headphone jack ports.

I must admit I thought all you people were crazy with the suggestion that it's just lint that is causing the headphones to not work. But I pushed my headphones on and wiggled it a little and pulled them out a piece of lint came with it and voila the darn thing works!!! Thanks for the suggestion, I would of never thought it was just lint!
