Default Authentication Error and "process com.motorola.service.main" error fix

I got the Droid Razr six weeks ago. For six weeks I have been putting up with two errors for which I discovered what appears to be the fix.

Verizon generally doesn't have answers to technical questions. I should say that they have answers but they generally don't work. Online searches are very helpful, especially this forum; however, I was not able to find a solution. Motorola live chat has been more helpful for many questions that I had on basic functionality. Online chat is better than calling. When you have someone on the phone it seems like they are less apt to research an answer, they tend to just tell you what they know (or don't know). Online chat seems more productive.

Both Verizon and Motorola had only one solution for each of these errors -hard reset back to the factory settings. I was unwilling to do that for two reasons. One is that it would take a while to load everything back up. The more important reason is that the conflict would arise again since there was no solution/answer provided on where the error was coming from.

I have Google as the main account for my phone. I was unable to delete the account and reinstall without doing a factory hard reset.

1. The process com.motorola.service.main has stopped unexpectedly. This would come up a lot, espectially if I go into the account settings to try to sync or check the accounts. Force close would close the accounts screen most of the time.
2. Authentication Error "Connection error" The following error has prevented a successful connection: Incorrect username or password. Visit settings to correct [NO Authentication failed]. This occurred when Wi-Fi and 3G were up and running, sync set to function in the background. Retry wouldn't do anything. My username and password are fine sinc email was working fine.

The apparent fix: Menu - Accounts - Add Accounts - Set Up Accounts screen. My Gmail was listed here - M email icon with my email address. I deleted it and both errors have not recurred. My conclusion is that this extra copy of my GMail account was conflicting with the Google GMail account that was already in the system. Interestingly the M Gmail icon/account or app still exists on the phone and works fine. I tested it, I shut down the phone and restarted, everything is functioning fine.

The accounts were set up by Verizon when I purchased the phone, don't know if others have a similar setup. If you are getting either of these error messages you might check to see if that fixes it for you as well.

Whenever I reboot my RAZR, I get the process com.motorola.service.main error on unlocking the phone for the first time. I have seen it very occasionally at other times, but that one is pretty much consistent.

Cry Fix for similar error

I was getting a similar error past few days and thought its because of the many apps I installed. Basically at times when I tried using the search button a process com.motorola.home ... error was displayed, and my phone used to be redirected to the browser or contacts page which I could not exit.

Apparently, the error was due to a Google search update. When I uninstalled the update and got back to the previous search version, there was no more error.

It seems that the Google account and services aren't properly integrated with the Android OS and Moto hardware.
