ok so i am switching to a smartphone and im debating over to either get the iphone4 or the razr im scared abuot the battery life i at aleast need it to last 6 hours a day...help should i get it????

battery life is average to good with both phones. some thing to keep in mind. the iphones width is much less, which makes the phone feel much nicer and easier in one hand. on the downside, the screen is also much smaller. the razr has 4g, but mine gets very hot in 4g.
go check them out in the store for size comparison. both are skinny enough to fit in a pocket (depth wise)

In just about every way possible. Hardware, upgradeability(software), 4G LTE speeds, bigger screen, upgradeable memory, HDMI out, and android OS and all the goodies that come with it.
To answer the OP's question, I easily get a full day (5:30am to 10pm) out of my Razr. On light use days it will still have 70% charge when I plug it in. For ME, light use is an hour or so messing with the phone (games, surfing, whatever) plus maybe 30 minutes worth of phone calls.
WiFi, bluetooth and GPS are always on (GPS is only ACTIVE when you're actually using an app that needs a GPS location). Home screen widgets are just a battery widget and weather that updates every 2 hours. (Heavy widget usage will drain the battery faster)
Nobody can say that YOU will get a full day out of your phone, because none of us (including you, possibly) really know how you'll have your phone set up and how you'll be using it. So depending on usage you may need to charge it during the day. That however, is true regardless of phone make, model or OS.

One of the tools provided with the Droid Razr and Razr Maxx that can help you to maximize battery life is an app called "Smart Actions". Smart Actions allows you customize the operation of the phone based on time of day or location. A similar app found in the Android Market is called "Tasker".
By using these apps you can define your schedule to automatically turn on/off the ringer when you are in meetings or class. You can set up your phone to automatically turn off 4G service when you are in an area known for poor 4G service. You can also automatically turn off notifications at night when you sleep.
Oh and I also have a Razr (not the Maxx) and typically get more than a full day of use from my Razr, depending on my specific utilization of the phone that day.

The razr has a notification light and I would get the maxx not the razr. Around town I can get 1 to 1.5 days on a charge; but when traveling I can burn throught he battery in a few hours at the airport or in 1/2 a day if I'm in a location with poor signal. If the maxx had been available when I purchased my phone i would have gone that route.

Yes it does have notification lights. I would get Lightflow from the market. Lightflow takes advantage of the many different colors the razr notification light can produce. You can use Lightflow to customize almost any notification you get. It's a really great app.

I would wait to see if the rumors of the moto Droid fighter pan out first. it's looking like a RAZR maxx with a 4.6" hd display and onscreen buttons like the gnex, which probably means ics...the release date that was thrown out for it a while ago was April 12th, so if that is true there should be some more leaks within the next couple of weeks.
