Confused Cant clear cache because phone is locked?

So I'm trying to clear the cache on my phone but when I get to the boot menu and select recovery I find that my phone is locked and I can't do it? How do I fix this?

You can still get to the stock recovery.. Just use the up volume button to select recover

You're in fastboot, wrong place

Power off your phone

Hold all three buttons until it starts

When you are in the boot menu, select RECOVERY with the up volume button.

When the Android with the red exclamation comes up, hit both volume buttons at the same time

From there you scroll to where it says wipe cache

Select with POWER button this time

Another screen with pop up, scroll to where it says yes, and select with power again

When it's done just hit reboot phone using the power button.

That should do it

Is doing this better than using the app "Cache Cleaner" I have always wondered if it is actually doing anything or not.

Meh ifs debatable. I'm not too sure that the app actually clears as much as this method

While we are on the subject. How do you check the cache size to see if it does anything.

Not too sure about that. I think it would be easier to just clear the cache in recovery that way you know it's done right.
