Default Droid Ultra Volume too loud on minimum level

Hello everybody! I am new here. Nice to meet you all. I was hoping I could ask for some help on my new device.
I just bought the Droid Ultra last week and I love it. I made the switch from the iPhone 4s, I held that phone for two years but wanted something more powerful and fun. This phone has been amazing so far and fun. The battery is great and I love how thin it is, not to mention the 720p. Talk about depth in color!
I am a huge music fan and used my iPhone as an mp3 player as well. I uploaded my library to Music Play with no problem. It was a simple as can be. I then plugged in my Sol Republic Headphones and turned the volume on the lowest setting, just one step above mute. I always leave my music on the lowest setting. I instantly noticed that it was relatively loud. I quickly pressed the volume rocker down an it muted it. (This issue also applies to anything I listen to via headphones.)
I noticed that I had less control over my volume controls than with my iPhone. The iPhone and any other mp3 player I had always gave me plenty of steps between low and loud so I could find my precise preference.
This is very awkward that I can't do that with Android. It goes mute, step 1 loud, then so on an so on. I have no way to get the volume to where I want it to be.
I researched online and it seems like a lot of users have experienced this issue since 2010. I am not getting much help on how to fix this. It seems like people have tried many apps but they don't work. Any help would be appreciated. I am hoping my phone isn't defective. Everything else works great but I need better volume control. I am currently running Jelly Bean 4.2.2. Not sure when I will get KitKat.
Thanks again.

Welcome to Android Forums.

I have used .... https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.cb.volumePlusPro&hl=en ... on my last three phones and use it on my Droid Maxx. There is also a free version.

You might try it out and see if it gives you the control you are looking for.

When starting I found the multiple volume controls in Android to be extremely confusing and the bar graph display in this app was very helpful.

The Motorola DROID Ultra is the thin brother in the family. The device only measures 0.28 inches in thickness and does not sacrifice power to do so.  Specs include a 1.7 GHz dual-core processor, 2 GB of RAM, a 5-inch display and Android 4.2.... Read More
