The biggest talking point with this phone seems to be the size. Id be curious to see some numerical opinions!
I myself have been waffling: at first I thought "Oh, way too big". Then this picture made me think its not the much larger than similar phones and I was getting it for sure!
But this pic has me wondering. Looks pretty giant in her hand:
So: What do YOU think about the size?
If you havent seen yet, engadget has a gallery of 50 some pictures.
well, i`ve held a EVO. it didnt hurt my hand (i have medium size hands I think). the HD2 windows phone...my hand could get cramped. it the same screen size as the evo but wider. some say this phone is skinnier than the evo but longer. if this pans out to be true...perfect fit!
particularly with that hump in the back thats designed for you to put your index finger there to relax the phone on it (obviously). plus engadget states that its "shockingly light" or something similar to that
which is perfect. its going to be noticeable when you talk on it (but who does that anymore) i use my phone mainly in the car through the speakers, or once in a while on speaker phone. my thing is...im a man. i need to have the biggest $#%^!!
sorry im competitive!
im looking at u EVO!! and uh...looking over you iphone.
DROIIIDD!!!
I made a little cardboard model of it (without the hump) and it feels good actually. Im 6' 1" and have slighty bigger than average hands I would guess and the size feels fine. You should make a little model and see for your self. The size is 0.39"x2.5"x5.01" if i remember correctly

If you have larger hands this phone would be perfect. I can imagine that the Chinese workers who assemble this phone are thinking that it's the latest Android tablet...lol For me, the Evo is to big, so this is a monstrosity.
i have big hands so i need a 4.x" screen. right now, typing feels like trying to kill fleas.
this is not too big for me.
i dont care about pocketability, i will use a holster for this thing.
i played with the hd2 and fell in love with how it felt in my hands
super duper excited that its FINALLY coming.

you said holding evo 4g didn't hurt your hand but HD2 could get you cramped? Really, are you serious?
This is odd since HD2 is about 15g lighter and smaller everywhere except in width which is barely 1mm wider. Hard to believe that you held both in your hands.

actually, i said it "could" give me cramps. thinking about long term use.
dont believe i held both? tough.
I personally think it's a bit too big. I wish Motorola would have been able to cut off a bit from the top and bottom, like just past those 4 buttons, because to me, they're empty space. What I like about the HTC EVO 4G is that it really does use the space well. I do like the thinness of the Droid X though.

A little too big IMO! If Moto would have just went with the same touch buttons as the original Droid, and ditched that Bezel with the Hump and all, they would have had an absolute killer on there hands. I know some will say it has to be held, but there are just too many things that make me weary, the size number 1, the buttons, the mirror bezel (scratch city) and the hump on the back with the 80's styling camera.

See I think the size is perfect, granted I haven't held one yet, but if it is anything like the EVO I will like it. I don't particually care for the mirror bezel as you said, or the hump but I think I can get over it. :-)
Slightly bigger than the EVO to me means it is too big, now mind you I have large hands (6'3") and the evo felt a bit cumbersome to me the actual deciding factor is pocketability and to me the Inc is perfect. If I were a belt clip person, I'd be all over it but I can't stand belt clips so I'll be sticking with my Inc.
Perfect size, I've held the EVO and it was great. I'm sure the X will be just as nice. I'm 6"2 w/big hands so I'm looking forward to getting this day 1....

I was all set to buy the Incredible until I walked into the Verizon store and saw it was the same width as my Verizon XV6800, a Windows Mobile phone with a dinky screen. I want bigger!
Then a coworker showed up a few days ago with the Evo 4 and I was disappointed in the size ... a little bigger but not enough bigger.
Ideal would be if they went from 16:9 to 16:10 aspect ratio and made it just a big wider.

The original 4.1" size that it was thought to be would have been a great size IMO. I held the EVO and played with it one-handed. Due to arthritis, carpal tunnel, and not having large hands it caused pain in my wrist. It is just a little too wide. I'm not gonna make a decision until I can actually get the X in hand though. But I still think the Samsung Galaxy S is gonna be the perfect size. For me anyway.
I played with an evo today and a HD2 and they look huge but when i held it it did not actually seem that big compared to my incredible. I cant wait for the X to come out and be able to get my hands on it
LOOKS too big in the pics, but I'd have to hold one to know. I've held my buddies Evo, and while it's not that bad, I think something closer to a 4.0" screen would be pretty optimal for me. I have kind of smallish girl-hands, and the width of the Evo is almost too wide for me to comfortably use it one-handed. I can do it fine on my iPhone and my other buddies DInc, but I think closer 4.0" would be the best spot for me. But I'd have to finger-eff everything first to see how it feels in my hands.
I'm going to say it's not too big. I can see this screen being breathtaking, similar to the HD2 and the EVO. So the size of that screen will be well worth it. This just won't be the type of phone you can put in your back pocket and sit on...

Who puts a phone in their back pocket and sits on it?

that hump is going to feel great in my hand.
it seems like it would make it a lot easier to hold on to one handed, especially with a device that big.
gives you something for your index and middle finger to do.

If you have big hands, true, but for us mid or smaller hands, the hump adds to the volume size of the device and will make it even more awkward to operate with one hand. Volume wise when considering the hump, the device is about 30% bigger than the Inc?

This makes the G1's chin seem quaint
I read somewhere that the hump is still thinner than the iPhone. If that is true then how could it be a deal breaker? could be people just shooting from the hip but it does bring up an interesting point.
edit: I looked it up, the iphone 3g and 3gs are .48" D and the X is .39" D one would presume that is at it's thickest point.... the hump

Samsung S would fit the bill for me, since 4", but they (Samsung) suck big Oprah butt in regards to OS updates.

If people have no problem with the size, the hump will make no difference to them. I can not operate the EVO one handed without risking it dropping (I made the Best Buy dudes nervous). Swyping with this would be rough.
That said, if I had bigger hands or at least longer thumbs, I would consider this device. Perhaps Moto should have called it: The Monolith

Noted For my own sanity isn't the EVO a bit wider and a bit thicker than the X and the X is just taller or am I remembering that wrong as well?

You are correct. The display dimensions and similar bezel make it slightly thinner. The X's display is like the Droid's as far as shape. Thinner and taller, due to pixel dimensions.
Given VZW's superior 3G coverage and the newer hardware in the X, the X is a "no brainer" when compared to Sprint EVO, for you big handed (or long thumbed) folks.

I'll have to reserve judgment until I can actually play with it. Admittedly, seeing the Inc (which is what I have now) next to it makes it seem like its not so big. My Inc right now with protective case is probably about the same size as the Droid X naked. My concern comes once you put a protective case on the Droid X... it'll be massive. I'm kind of in between right now.. I admit when I'm browsing on my Inc, I sometimes wish I had a bigger screen. Like if it were just a little bigger, it would be perfect.. but the Droid X looks like it might be too big to house in a pocket after getting a protective case and I'd consider myself above average height/size (6'2 196 lbs).
PS: I always look at phones from a pocketable standpoint.. and I kind of wish they did the same kind of buttons in the front as the Inc. Those individual buttons look like they'll be lint traps.

Keep in mind that the X is thinner than the incredible. I didn't see this link in the thread and I have been putting it everywhere and this is probably the most deserving place for it Sized Up: Droid X vs Incredible
If it's truly .39 thick at the hump, the it's really a thin phone.
And if that's the case, then I wish they'd made it slightly thicker and put in a huge battery.... like a 2000 or 2500mAh.
I've held the EVO and would have no problem with it so my guess is the Droid X will be ok too. Gotta hold it myself though to see if that hump feels ok in my hand.

I will say this about the hump...I have a Logitech Harmony 1100 remote control. It has two humps (one on each side of the remote) and they are a huge help when holding the remote one-handed.

Yea, I was looking at the pictures, and this was the first thing I thought of too. I have to believe they were thinking about that when the phone was designed because they can easily sell an extended life battery that just increases the length of the hump to fill in some of the thinnest area.

Yea, I've definitely taken this into consideration and it does factor in the overall pocket economy it takes up, especially when in a protective case. My main thing is, when I go to work, I usually wear form-fitting dress pants so just the sheer overall size would stick out. Guess I could always resort to a clip when going to work.

I guess it depends if you work with a whole bunch of guys or have lady friends at work.
