Meh, when it comes it comes. No rush. Honestly these updates are overhyped. Everyone was so excited about froyo and it was very underwhelming.
You have got to be kidding!
Full Flash support, Wifi Hotspot and with the GPU tweaks they lowered max voltage from 64 (on 2.1) all the way down to 56, which greatly increased battery life while at the same time smoothing transitions and redraws considerably.... underwhelming???
Honestly, it was like getting a completely different device in the mail. That's how much it changed these devices.

The gb leak also remakably changed our DX's here. I'm getting 50% more battery life, and the phone is fast enough now for smooth psx emulation, as well as some of the newer processor intensive games like dungeon defenders. (Our quadrant scores went from about 1150 to 1750.)
And I LOVE the new notification bar and the new social widget. GB makes a HUGE difference, and will make your DX fel like a brand new device.

There is no way GB gave you a 50% increase. You are either using it less or had a defective app or file using 100% cpu.
Believe what you like. All I know if I only have to charge my phone every other day now, instead of half way through the day, and frankly thats all I care about.

I'm looking forward to GB too, but will wait until there is confirmed root of the OTA before I install it. I don't want to lose all the bennies I now enjoy with rooted Froyo 2.2.1. It is interesting to hear about the early adopters and I thank you all who have loaded the early GB leak and have shared your experiences! It sounds like "Gingerblur" is a rather nice and smooth successor to what we now have with Froyo. Bring on May 10th (or whenever it comes out)...

Call me stupid but is there anyone here know that when this over the air does come out and we are still rooted will it fail or will take or worse screw our phone's up.

if you're rooted you should be fine...IF you have not removed/renamed/frozen any bloatware apps...
if you have done that the update will fail until you fix those issues...
but if you're just rooted it should install fine...it will however break root and you will have to wait till the devs find a process for rooting

Odds are you'll have to sbf back to froyo to take the ota update, or wait until someone roots the OTA, and posts it, or someone comes up with a root method for the OTA release.
And there won't be any huge significant changes from what we have, so I'll wait for a rooted version of some kind.
If you are on the stock 2.2 (rooted or not) you'll recieve a message telling you that your phone has an update available. If you're not rooted and don't care to be then go ahead and take the update. If you're rooted, taking the update will more than likely break root and you'll have to wait until they root this version before you can root and use your root apps again. So you may want to hold off on taking it until they announce they've successfully rooted it.
If you're running a custom ROM (like Apex), you will not recieve an update message, and will not be able to update until you flash back to stock 2.2.

Good! Been VERY happy with APEX 1.4.0 since I installed it. Unless I read in the forums the GB battery life is longer than 2 days, and the OS is as stable as APEX (no freezes or random reboots like I had with Froyo), I'll stay with APEX till I say bye to my X.

I ran Apex, and was a little worried there was no update for GB. But, having taken the plunge, wow, forget Apex.
For the first time since I got this phone, I can show it to any iPhone user and not have to worry about screen rotation lags, glitchy GUI issues, or any other performance issue.
Froyo was underwhelming, but nice--it added features, but had some performance issues. GB adds a few nice enhancements but more importantly makes the whole dang platform run smooth as warm butter.

It has been confirmed to work on the X and will most likely work with the OTA unless there is a major change between the latest leak and what will become the official release. If May 10th ends up being the date, there won't have been a lot of time to make major changes to the update.
The motoBlur version of GB is quite beautiful and I think that all but the most picky will be impressed by the update.

If this is the case, then I am becoming more hopeful. I'll still hold off until the early adopters are satisfied and there is confirmation that root and all the goodies therewith are not compromised. Thanks again to everyone who has posted with info on GB .

Thanks for the input. Maybe I will have to try the GB OTA when it comes out. If I don't like it, there's always Apex 2.0 which I'm sure Fab will insure runs on the official as well as the leaked GB.

Just wait until you put Apex on top of Gingerbread. It is in Alpha testing now and seems to be running very well. Should not be long until Fab is ready to release a public version.

But your are correct, since sweet treats are the theme, 'popcorn' certainly won't make the cut. What other choices are on the menu besides 'pudding' and 'pastry'?

Don't get me wrong--if Apex 2.0 does for GB what 1.4 did for Froyo, I'm all over it! I'm just saying right now, GB is so much smoother than Froyo that losing Apex 1.4 to get GB wasn't a problem.

'peanut butter parfait'?
I dare not say out-loud what I'm thinking.

Seriously, these threads/posts should be deleted from this forum. Look at what we're reading and creating hype from. "How does May 10th sound?" Really? Horseshit.

Do you mind elaborating on why it's horseshit?
I know that putting a date on a verizon update is crazy because it almost never hurts but that takes the fun out of speculation. My advice to anyone who is holding on to this date is to take it with a GIANT grain of salt, because you will likely find yourself severely disappointed. No inside info here but I just know the history of how these things go down. That's why many of us just load the leaked, likely as close as you can get OTA on our phones and just don't worry about an official OTA.

I think you answered your own question there. It's horseshit precisely because it cannot be relied upon. They throw out a date of May 10th with no source or backing at all. We can't count on that date. SO the date is horseshit. Piffle. flummery. Vapor date. Absolutely useless to anyone anywhere other than to increase tragically hopeful traffic to the site that threw it out.
How does April 30th sound? That's what I'm putting on my site. Come by and see!

GB is great!
I got sick of waiting for the OTA, so I installed the leaked version. After a couple of minor glitches, I could NOT be happier! The phone is faster, smoother, more user-friendly, with DRAMATICALLY better battery life. Today for example, I had a 10 hr day, with 8 average length calls in/out...checking weather radar a cpl times an hr...on bank site and facebook a few times, and still had 80% battery life when I got home. I don't know if thats 50% better than before, but it's definite much better and very acceptable! Love it, love it, love it!
