Is the 28th the confirmed drop dead date for unlimited? And does it affect family plans, or is it line by line?
can you be a little more specific about this? do you mean this as a general verizon question? because unlimited data has been gone for quite some time now

Yes, 28th is the drop dead date. For those grandfathered under unlimited data plans, you cans stay under unlimited if you don't change anything under your current plan. If you want to upgrade to a new device, you can do that and keep unlimited data only if you pay full retail price for your new smartphone.

I've been reading about supposedly improved radios for the SIII too but haven't found the source of the information. So far it's just people saying it in a few forums.
I got an interesting text this morning saying it's my last chance to get a $100 discount to upgrade to ANY 4G phone. Didn't even know I had a discount coming to me, sneaky VZW. Here's the full text.
FREE Verizon msg: Exclusive Offer! Last chance to Upgrade EARLY and get $100 off ANY new 4G LTE Smartphone! Plus, get a 4GB Smartphone data plan for only $30 monthly access! New 2yr agreement & data pak req'd. $30 upgrade fee will apply. Offer ends soon, so call 800.***.**** today! Reply X to stop msgs
I think my hands are tied on what to upgrade to. I'll probably be going with the S3 though I would have liked to see what the Fighter/RazrHD is all about first. Oh well, such is life.

I think the Razr might be a better constructed phone and will last longer. My droid x is now over 2 years old and still works amazing. But I got the S3 more bells and whistles and I think it will be a good phone. Mostly to keep my unl data though.
I agree that the Moto phones are built like tanks, but I'm not going to wait for the Fighter/HD for 2 reasons. A) would have to pay full price if I wanted to keep unlimited data. B) Will probably cost $300 for a subsidized plan based on the original prices on the RAZR and RAZR Maxx.
I was pleasantly surprised that the S3 was only $200, and I will probably be investing in an Otterbox case for mine to protect the shell. Never put a case on my DX and it has survived some pretty good falls, but the housing is pretty beat up.

The screen on my X has a wet-looking spot when the phone is off that turns blue when the phone is on and I touch it anywhere. And it's getting bigger by the day. And my battery life is fairly non-existant, and it's been horribly laggy since the upgrade, blah blah blah.... That, plus the fact that my work phone was recently upgraded to an Epic 4G Touch (sweeeet!), means that I have been doing a lot of reading on here (and other places too) the past few days. I'm thinking at this point the SG3 is where I'm headed as well, just need to get it pre-ordered. But I am having a hard time pulling the trigger - I hate to buy a phone sight-unseen....

Just to let you know, those symptoms you described are caused by a swollen, worn out battery. Same exact thing happened to me and many others here as of late. Batteries are only about $4 on Amazon.

Crazily enough, I just read about this on the other "changing phones" thread and pulled the battery immediately. That was deifinitely it! Thank you though, I appreciate your letting me know.

Yep mine had the same issue, new battery phone no longer reboots lasts more than one hour ( all day now actually) and the spot is Gone! I kind of wish Motorola made the S3 the build quality is amazing.

I am upgrading my DX to SGS3 sight unseen. I am not a heavy user and can't remember when my DX battery didn't last the day. My main concern would be the Samsung radios. Hopefully they are improving. I'm not going to sell my DX though. It's still a good phone and will be recommissioned if I have problems with the Samsung.

I just got a new batt on amazon for 4.95 for my DX the phone works as good as new. The thing is 2 years old! I wish moto made the s3 its so well built. Will be keeping mine has a back up! I have verizon So I wont be getting mine until after vegas. Which is probably a good thing so I cant high quality photo's of my debauchery.
Preordered a Pebble Blue GSIII on Thursday. Wanted to keep my unlimited, but iver the last 6-8 weeks, my DX has slowly turned into a pile of crap that nearly got chucked out the window on the highway at 70 MPH (tried to make a phone call, took at least 5 minutes to turn on Bluetooth and dial out, rediculous). Ever since the battery went out and I replaced it, it's been having more and more issues. I don't think my stock battery ever swelled, but I replaced it with an extended battey that reviewers said fit under the stock cover. It did, but very tight and pushed on the screen. I wonder if the slew of DXs going bad is due to battery pressure on the back of the screen like that? Seems most of the people who have phones acting up like mine have had the same thing going on. Anyways, a couple months ago, I had no problems and was in no hurry to get a new phone, but now I'm counting the days until I can stop using this unreliable turd. Seriously, I get angry just looking at it anymore!

Just ordered the Galaxy SIII. I had no plans to upgrade but with my last new in two $80 discount and keeping my unlimited data it looked like a no brainer. This currently rooted. 621 phone has served me well for almost 3 years. With a new battery it would be like new again. Keeping for backup and experimentation. Here's to the next big thing...

Like many others here, I'm looking at upgrading my DX by 6/28 in order to get a 4G LTE phone at a subsidized price and still retain my unlimited data plan. I've had good luck with Motorola phones in the past and think their reputation for build quality and radio reception is well deserved and the Droid RAZR MAXX with a 3300 mAh battery is looking good to me. The Samsung Galaxy S3 has some awesome specs but I'm kind of hesistant to order a new phone model sight unseen and have heard that Samsung phones in the past have had reception issues. Seems like a lot of the recent posts have leaned toward the SGS3. For those that have pre-ordered it, what is selling you on that phone?

Everything but the radio
Bigger, higher resolution screen
Faster processor
More RAM
Removable battery (which should still have sufficient battery life)
Typically, Samsung cameras are better than Moto
If the radio turns out to be an issue, I'll return it and get the MAXX (or HD if available).

So the radio issue is for real? I was thinking of following the same process but I asked the guy at the VZW store if I wanted to exchange the SGS3 for the MAXX (or HD if available) within the 14 day window which price I'd have to pay and he said I'd have to pay full retail on it to retain unlimited data. I could pay the subsidized price, but then I'd be forced to the Share Everything data plan. He said any phone purchase after 6/28 would require full retail price in order to retain unlimited data.

We don't know about the radio right now, but it isn't one of the factors that had me leaning towards the SGS3. Even if the Euro phones that are out have good radios, it is still irrelevant since the VZW phones will have different radios.
Well, if that's the case about returns, I'll sell the SGS3 and buy the MAXX or HD at full retail. Not that big of a deal.
Well my understanding the radio on the device is built into the Chispet. Its made by qualcom ( spelling) So I am not sure what the Samsung radio has to do with the S3. It has the same radio as the one x, Evo and what ever else phone uses the S4. We have all heard nothing but good reviews on those phones.
If those all have good reception so should the S3. If the S3 does have bad reception its on Verizon's end not Samsung or qualcomms. It has do with the spectrum Verizon is suing I would Imagaine. But then of course they don't have the 4g network Verizon does either so who knows.

The modem is part of the Snapdragon S4, but "the radio" includes the antenna. The antenna is designed by Samsung and has a lot more to do with reception than the modem does. The antenna will perform differently on different networks. So, you can't take good performance on a GSM network and say it will be good on a CDMA network. If it was a problem with Verizon, then it would be a problem with ALL Verizon phones. It isn't.

That's the same price as the 32Gb from Verizon...if your looking to stay off contract. And as UrsusVIIILXXXVII said, no the eBay is a GSM phone, not CDMA.

Well tonight I finally broke down and bought a replacement 4G phone. The X was great for most of my ownership, however, the fact that I've never navigated with GPS and NOT had to reboot is a concern.
Since I'm not sure what I want to do with Verizon, I bought a new Sony Xperia Play 4G on ebay to get me by for at least another 6 months. Can't wait to have 4G at the very least, let alone a game controller(I'm going to be a lot less productive at work).
I know I've been much more of a lurker than a talker, but I really appreciate all the help I've received on this board since my Incredible gave up the ghost after 6 months and was sent a Droid X as an insurance replacement.
Like many of you, I've decided to keep my unlimited data plan (for 2 more years, anyway) and pre-purchase a GSIII (white, 16GB). After almost two years of heavy abuse, my X still looks pretty good, and hopefully will fetch a decent price on ebay.
A special note of thanks for all of the people who contributed to the root forum, especially those who convinced me to go with MIUI.

I just ordered a Galaxy Nexus tonight for $50. Tried my hardest to get the SIII but the system just wasn't willing to play along. The rep I spoke with was jealous of my $100 discount. I said I'd let him have it if he'd get me the SIII but no dice.
The X was my first Android phone and I think I lucked out. Add to that this community and you couldn't ask for a better situation.
I've been a lurker since drop day two years ago. Moving on to the SIII like many others. I just wanted to echo my thanks to everyone on this forum. So many questions answered!
I also pulled the trigger on the SIII. The X was my first Droid phone and this forum helped me along the right path with rooting my phone and fixing it when things went wrong.

As a follow-up, I did pull the trigger on 6/21 and purchased a Razr Maxx and also took the ICS update on 6/30. I must say that so far, I'm EXTREMELY pleased with my decision. I loved my faithful DX, but the DRM is an absolute beast in comparison. It's faster, smoother, more stable, I like the display better and the battery life is unreal. I did do a FDR on the phone after I took the ICS update and everything is running great. Hopefully, it stays this way. Still have lots to learn about the DRM and ICS, but Motorola has put out some excellent documents and videos on the support page to get up to speed quickly on features and changes with the phone and OS. I don't know about the SGSIII, but I'm very pleased so far with the Razr Maxx!!! I'll be heading over to that forum now...C ya there!

Correct! FDR = Factory Data Reset
With my DX, I did FDR's after taking the Froyo and GB updates and it always seemed to make my phone run better.
When I took the ICS update on my Razr Maxx, I had one silly bug where my camera app wouldn't make the shutter sound. Did an FDR and camera shutter sound is back and everything is running great. I'm not a tech kind of person, but it seems that FDR's do seem to help when taking updates...kind of like starting with a clean slate I guess.
