Default Droid X vs Razr

I went to the Verizon store a day after the Razr was released to check it out. I will have to say (yawn) I was not impressed at all. The ONLY feature that might best the X is the screen was really pretty. BUT the display screen is still the same size as the X, so nothing gained there. The Razr's screen did not have a screen protector on it, so the screen looks really bright and colorful, but the X's does to minus the screen protector.

Overall, the Razr does add a larger glass area around the screen and it makes you think the screen it larger, but it is not. I tested the speed of my X against the speed of the Razr. I opened and played with apps on both phones at the same time and I did not notice any performance difference in the two phones. Remember, the Razr does have a dual core cpu, but it is clocked at only 1.2 ghz, which is really nothing in cpu speeds. Dual core only has a benefit if your phone is doing multiple things at once. So, when I was testing the X against the Razr and opening and playing with apps, I was only doing one thing at a time, so it was basically 1.0 ghz vs 1.2 ghz, which really did not amount to any difference in speed or performance.

Mind you, my X was running completely stock speeds, no overclocking at that time. So, I cannot justify spending $300.00 for a phone that only has one real option my X does not have and that is 4G. I did not factor 4G into this because I do not even live anywhere close to a 4G area and 4G will probably not make it here for at least another year or two.

You may have a Razr, you may love the Razr, and it is a nice phone and if someone gave me one free, sure I would probably take it and bury my X. But for $300.00...nope, not worth it.

I really hope the Nexus does not pull another Motorola/VZW yawner like the Razr did.

The price is definitely a sore point. Way too much.

I played with a RAZR instore for a few minutes a couple of times now. The RAZR is definitely much faster than my X. I have three upgrades available on my 5 line family plan, but I'm not going to get a RAZR.

I'm waiting to see the GNex, but so far, in my experience, Samsung and HTC's radio technology isn't up to Motorola's which is top-notch.

Yeah, I agree. The only main difference is 4G. I don't need my phone to be bullet proof yet...I'm still just a 008 and we can't carry guns anyways. Waiting until I get upgraded to 007, then maybe I will need a bullet proof phone

To me the screen on my X looked a lot better than the razr. Especially with text, you could really see that the X is a lot smoother. A far as color, I prefer it a little toned back. Some of these newer displays just look a little to cartoonish.

Actually, in my opinion, the Razr is a significantly improvement over a stock Droid X. In my opinion the Razr handset is faster than a stock DX. The stock launcher is smoother and apps seem to run quicker. LTE is definitely a battery hog but it's nice to know that when you need quicker network response, it's there! The Razr is also much thinner and much lighter than the DX. Is it the end all and be all of upgrades... no (at least I don't think so)! But it's a worthwhile successor to the DX.

While I miss certain quirks about my Droid X, I'm completely satisfied that upgrading to the Razr was a good move... and will continue to be until the day comes that I decide to upgrade to something else.

the razr is better than the DX, i do wish it wasnt labeled the razr, but instead the X3

the X2 was just not much of a difference to make a big fuss about, the razr will see ICS and is a great device, i just hope if there will be an X3 that it will infact be worth the money spent

There are rumors of the Droid 4 coming out soon which would make the RAZR the successor to the X2. I guess the X3 was just too generic of a name for moto.

i seriously doubt the droid 4 will come out that soon, the d3 was just released, droid 4 this early? not a chance, next year around the same launch time as the d3 sure, but not this early

Interesting ... I concluded that the Droid X2 was only a slight improvement and the next step after the Droid X was the Bionic.

IMNHO the Bionic and the Razr will both be around for a while sevicing different communities.

I would really like a Droid 4 with 4g. Moto missed it by releasing the 3 with just 3g. I looked at in the store Friday, but passed since it was 3g. And the only 4g with a slider is the Samsung.

Lots of rumors about it coming out in the last few days. It should be releasing soon.

I have an early upgrade now and my husband's upgrade comes in January. I would really like to move him off the feature phone (EnV3), which has the terrible, dreaded "mobile web". He hates it. If it came out between now and his upgrade date, I would get it for him. If not, he'll be getting the Samsung. (He needs the physical keyboard. Or at least he thinks he does! )

Messed with one at Verizon yesterday. It had Angry Birds Seasons on it(Halloween). I noticed on my DX it takes 20 seconds for it to load. On the Razr it took 10 seconds.
Nothing scientific here but that is quite a bit faster.

I also messed with a Casio Commando. Was surprised it seemed about as fast as my DX.

Not to bring this thread back up to the top, but I feel this is where most of the manufacturers are going wrong. In both the Windows_PC and Phone markets, there are:

1 - Too many models of things doing the same thing
2 - No focus on sticking with and refining existing models.
3 - Too many NEW model names on the playing field.

Take a look at Apple. Love them or hate them, they make 3 Notebooks. Three, thats it. Look at the "competition".......how many notebooks does Dell offer? I bet they dont even know. Same goes for phones and the like. Even the Tablet market suffers from this disease. I don't advocate chasing another product as we have seen too many tablets (for instance) try to compete with the iPad. Nothing is going to ever kill the iPad, so why try to live up to it. Now the Kindle Fire came up with something that appeasl across a wider spectrum of users. Is it an iPad.....nope, its not supposed to be. We own one and I actually like the thing, and I also own an iPad, and love it for what it does.

Anyhow, my three cents.

I disagree. I love the fact that there are a million models that do the same thing because that means that there is one (maybe a few) models that have exactly what I want. In fact, I don't think there is enough diversity in Android phones. Where are the small-screen (<4") phones with high-end processor/RAM? I don't want one, but there are some who do.

Apple's model is to tell you what you want. The sheep blindly follow.

The only motor phone that truly is comparable is the bionic. IMHO phones need removable replaceable batteries and the Razar/Razar Mazda doesn't offer this.
