Lost my Droid X today, data card security and what should I get?

I stupidly lost my phone today.

My phone is password protected so I guess whoever has it won't be able to use the phone unless they wipe it somehow, which would erase all my data. I am wondering though, it seems impossible to wipe the phone unless you unlock it. Anyone know if that is the case?

Anyone know if the sd card is also protected somehow? I highly doubt it but just wondering.

Lastly, what should I get? I want to stay with Verizon and Android and the only thing on my wishlist is a camera that takes good pictures. And because it seems something newer and better is always just around the corner, I feel like I should either wait it out activate an old phone or get an HTC that might fit the bill.

Help?

Have you tried locating your device? Lookout mobile has an app called plan b that should help you find it, even make out sound an alarm.
