Default Found a Droid X, now how do I find the owner?

I recently picked up a Droid X off the side of the road, and I'm trying to figure out exactly how to get a name or a number of the owner off of it. It's locked with a number pad, but still active.
Any suggestions? Thanks!

Take it to a Verizon Wireless store?

O/W keep it charged and someone may try to call it. (but will you be able to answer it?)

Verizon(or whatever service they have) should be able to track them down. Easily.

He's had the phone for 13 days. No responses to our posts.
You think he's tried all 10,000 lock combinations yet?

I read every 4th word and come to a conclusion when I hit 10 words.

Now you know why I make mistakes.

Ha!

You mean "Sourskittles" from "Star Fleet Academy" who found a Droid X "on the side of the road", and only has one post on this forum?

ESN is probably hotlisted anyway, even if he figured it out.

Remove the SD Card and put it in a computer. See if there are any saved documents which have owner contact information.

Props to people like you who actually care about people losing their phones. I lost (or was stolen) a droid 2 a while back, and I think whoever got it turned it off immediately so I couldn't locate it.

You're not alone. Symantec recently did a study and found that only 50% of lost phones are returned. Here's the 17 page report (pdf format).

Wink

Well, he's not asking how to unlock it, he's asking how to contact original owner without necessarily unlocking it.

Bear in mind, the OP has only had one post and his last activity was April 14, about 2 months ago.

Take it to the nearest Verizon store.

They will just pull the battery and read the label that is under it. The last line is the MEID that is the unique number for the device.

They should have the owner's name in their database.

Just sayin.

Is the reward more than the resale value? ;-)

I've found a couple lost phones before. With one phone I called the home number in the contacts and left a message that their phone was with the store manager of the grocery store I found it at. The other I just took to Verizon and hoped they got in contact with the owner before they reported it lost or stolen.

I found an old Nokia years ago. No contacts, so I waited. The owner called and spoke Spanish. I kept saying "Only speak English". Finally he got someone else to call and I met them.
