Question To upgrade or not to upgrade?

To upgrade or not to upgrade? That's the question.

Hi eveyone - i'm new around here, but i've been lurking for a little while without creating an account and finally did today.

Anyways, to the point. I have a Droid X at the moment with Verizon and I was thinking of upgrading to a Galaxy Nexus. My upgrade date is not until June (I think) but I got an "approval" to upgrade now for lower price.

My question is to all of you more educated Android users. Should I upgrade now for a Galaxy Nexus OR should I wait until June and get whatever new cellphone is coming down the pipeline between now and June, that seems to be better than the Nexus?

I appreciate all your help & comments.

Regards,

Hi AldoSom.

Welcome aboard. I just want to let you know that I've moved your thread to its correct forum..for some better responses from other Verizon's users.

Oh - Thanks!

Sorry for posting it on the wrong forum. Altho - my question was not regarding Droid X, but about the actual upgrade itself.

Wanted to see if anyone had any information about new phones coming out soon that will be better than the Nexus.

Nexus is not kind to the battery. I would hold off. Once fighter is released, Maxx should come down in price. Love the Maxx, but price savings would make me hold out if I had it to do over again.

And then there is the possibility of the Galaxy 3...we'll see if Verizon gets one. Personally, I'd wait...which is what I'm currently doing

OP i was in your exact position when the G Nex launched.....5 months later...i wish i had not jumped to the G Nex....maybe reading through this thread will help you.

Long story short....i can't get service at all at my house on the G Nex....i never had that problem on my DroidX

Would you buy one again (Verizon version)?

GNex? You'll be hard pressed to find a phone that comes initially with ICS and has 20 roms and 10 kernels to play with. It's fast, but you'll need to root and update it to get it to work great. Like all the fast phones with high resolution screens, battery life takes a little work. You'd want the $25 extended battery.

I'd buy mine again. A buddy at work returned his Razr for the Razr Maxx due to battery life issues, BUT he leaves the screen at 100% brightness, never uses wifi, never turns 4g off and is streaming audio all day at work.

Asside from the beautiful screen on the Gnex, I had to return it. Bad data reception, the phone is slippery and curved so the contact point slides around where a flat back would stay put.
Rumors say a new Razr HD could be coming (soon?) that will have everything. ICS, HD, maxx battery, gorilla glass (2?) etc.
Until then, my X is the best. Rooted and running miui Galnet by Beanstown.

If my X died today, I would get the Maxx. Otherwise I'm waiting to see what comes this summer. I'm hoping the Fighter shows up in time for my X's 2nd BD in July...

Welcome to the forums! I've had my DX since launch date, and Verizon hadn't released anything yet that has enticed me away from it.

Battery life on the 1st gen LTE phones wasn't that great. As conchita noted, the GN has many ROMs that may help with that issue. There are some promising battery reports on the S4 chips in the new batch of LTE phones yet to be released. I am waiting on the Samsung G3 (announcement later today) or the Droid Fighter / RAZR HD to see if any of them make me want to set my X down for good.

Same here. I've got my upgrade available, but I'm not going to use it on the Razr Maxx at this point. The Incredible 4G is a 4" screen, so that's out for me.

My DX has been great, but I just got 2 HTC One S phones for my wife and daughter and I'm really jealous. I'm ready to move up from the DX, but I'm not going to get something that's been out 6 months and I won't be happy with 2 years down the road.

I had upgraded to the Rezound when they had the $50 special. Happy with it. Much snappier than the X, and I had rooted the X and overclocked, I left Rezound stock for now. Will root when official ICS is released. And the camera just works. I got sick of the X freezing when I'm recording a video. Was going to wait for 2nd gen LTE phones but since the 3 phone I have are all out of warranty and i have unlimited talk text and data special, figure I grab a $50 smart phone and have a spare.

Forgot to mention I leave LTE off as my area don't have it and not expected till probably next year. So battery its not killed by it. Being able to surf and talk on 3G in this phone was a plus. OK and the screen its just gorgeous.

Using wifi, when available (which turns off 4g), will help a lot with battery.

I'm sure we're all familiar with the saying about a certain body part and opinions and how everyone has one....

I'd be interested in seeing you back up the Verizon part with proof... like a link.

Nice to see you ditched the dog-taking-a-dump avatar... never was fond of that.

My Nexus has worked great. Battery life is pretty good if you adjust the screen settings and use wifi where available (like home). Screen is fantastic and the phone is very fast. Camera was so-so until I learned you have to tap what you want in focus. Using a different camera app helps a lot too. Like all good things, there's a learning curve.

Would I recommend this to a non-hacker, like a co-worker who's never rooted, probably not. or Mom or my wife? No way.

But I'd do it again in a heartbeat.
