So I'm coming from the LG Voyager and was hoping there is going to be a way to get all my contacts from my phone on the DROID without having to pay Verizon to transfer it. You guys know how this is going to work since it will probably be an issue that is going to pop up? Thanks!
If you can find a way to get your contacts into a csv (comma separated value) file, you should be able to import it into your Google account. I say should because when I exported my contacts from bitpim Google said that the file was invalid.
I'll just do it manually. It's a good way for me to get used to the keyboard/interface. Also I can weed out all the people that I really don't want their number, lol.

At first I was going to give Bitpim a try, but what you say is a good idea. Get some time in on the keyboard (both hard and soft) before getting into hardcore use of the phone...
shouldnt they just transfer for it for free when you go there and purchase the upgrade??
everytime ive gone there and done that they plug it into that little box they got and swapped them. unless they are different file formats and wont go over unless you do it manually?
id prefer to do it manually, this way i only put the numbers in i REALLY need
I just manually added all of my contacts to my gmail contacts.. which should be synced to the Droid when I add my google account, if I'm understanding this correctly.

Hmmm - been using BitPIM for a long time now (ever since I moved to VZW, actually) and I have a lot of contacts and old SMS stored. I suppose I can get it to work by using the above procedure....
I have synced my outlook with my Gmail account and all my address transfered with it. Also I used to use Verizon to transfer my contacts to my new phone, and they never charged me.
damnit.. i just spent like a half hour manually typing in all my contacts from my blackberry into my gmail account so its ready to sync when i get my droid.
backup assist work for blackberry's?
EDIT: just searched, backup assist doesnt work for blackberry so i dont see another way of doing it, besides manually

[1] Sync your BB contacts with your Mac address book using the BB desktop software.
[2] Download a program called SyncMan from MacUpdate.com.
[3] SyncMan will sync your address book with a Google account.
Every time I've gotten a new phone Verizon has automatically transferred my contacts. Will Best Buy be able to do this?
I set up a backup contact with Verizon on their website... Theoretically, I should be able to transfer my contacts to any new phone I get on their network.
verizon has always transfered contacts over for free when you get a new phone, for me at least
yea same here. just saving them just in case

I'm with shoresidejake on this. I'm gonna input contacts and calendar manually ... good hands-on way for me to get familiar with the device, the keyboard, the interface, etc. .... And weed out the contacts I don't really need ...
I've searched this on different forums and depending on where your contact info is currently, transferring it to the Droid is not necessarily easy. For example, I've been using a Palm T/X (not a smartphone) and from what I've read, the steps to transfer that to Gmail format and thus sync to my new Droid are far from idiot-proof.
If you've got your contacts in MS Outlook, I read that transferring/sync'ing to Droid should be easy.
The obvious/free PITA way is to just go into Outlook and export your contacts as a CSV file, and then import them into Google. This of course isn't automated you'll need software for that if Outlook is your master source. CompanionLink seems to be leading the pack right now.
I half expected Google to have a morning wake-up announcement that they updated Google Sync to include contacts for the major mail programs. They have an API for it..
Well I am in the group where the phone has the important info (phone numbers). I can catch up with emails later if needed, but getting my current phone list into google would sure take some stress away. Unfortunately, I have not been able to access MyContacts in MyVerizon for at least the last hour. It keeps coming up with no connection. WIll you people PLEASE STOP accessing your MyVerizon accounts so I can get my data downloaded ??
VZ store transfered my contacts from 700p to Droid and there they are, BUT they are on the phone as 'phone only, not synced' and don't seem to want to sync with Google.
Not sure if they should have done something different, but any Palm users might want to explore other options than store transfer.
The Motorola Droid - the first ever Verizon Android Phone - exploded onto the mobile market with an incredibly successful ad campaign that brough Android to the masses. With a huge and vibrant touchscreen, solid metal body, full QWERTY keyboard, 5M... Read More
