Im using a mac and it automatically unzips the folder. Following your instructions Im supposed to used take the unzipped folder and drop it on to my SD card correct. because once safari unzips it, the names changes to update with no file extension. a little guidance is appreciated.
This is from Trident's first page instructions. Hope this helps you out.
Important: If you are a Mac user using the Safari browser, you’ll need to do the following before downloading the file:
- Open Safari
- Navigate to "Safari" and then choose "Preferences"
- Choose the "General" tab
- Uncheck "Open Safe Files After Downloading"
If you're not using Safari you may need to do something like this on whatever browser you're using.
Ive been running the frg01b leak from pete. (the clean virgin. untouched)
Apparently this build is the same thing (or very close to the same thing).
Ive been reporting amazing (almost twice as long) battery life after i recharge the battery (on the phone) with this build running. Can anyone else here confirm better battery life?

Be Nice!!!
Anyone having issues with programs running themselves after updating? Ive ATK'd email and twidryd yet I keep getting push notifications from each whenever I have a new email or tweet.
Also, touch screen calibration issues with the docking station? My screen is not reading movement correctly, placing touches about a half screen off.
2.2 gmail, chat, messaging, facebook are great! Also I love the "update all" feature in the market. The power control widget now toggles auto brightness in addition to low and full brightness! Sweet! Still using Launcher Pro however... I can't get enough of the new LP wigdets!

Same here! I just bought an extra battery and stand alone charger and now it appears I will rarely need it. Although, correct me if I'm wrong, but using Flashplayer will probably soak up some juice.
I was EXTREMELY pleased! After 6hrs yesterday I was still at 90% with light use....mostly just playing around texting with Swype. It's addicting as Hell!!
I have a question i upgrded to 2.2 yesterday. AND IT IS AWESOME. THANK YOU!!!. But now the audio on pandora and all other streaming is horrendous. I found a fix at xda but it requires root access. If I downgrade my phone root it and re-upgrade will I keep root permissions ?
I have a ROOTED but STOCK 2.1 Droid. Can I still download the update to 2.2? Will I still be rooted and can I root again if needed? (without a custom rom). Will the update require a reformatting of the flash?
I know there have been some skeptics as to whether or not this is official. I got the file from the Google link, the phone had all of the keys it needed to think this was 100% OK. Those two things make me pretty comfortable but the real kicker will be when my fiancé gets the OTA. I will check the build numbers and any other minor differences that I can find. So far everything is running great my mirror is still up and I will leave the file there until either the next update or some other reason comes along. I would like to get a small repository of the Droid Updates if anyone has 2.1 and would be willing to get it to me so I can upload it as well that would be great.
Usually content not supported means you need to use something like Astro File Manager to allow the browser to download all file types.
I already had an app called "File Manager". I downloaded Astro anyway though. Thanks. Will this remove my root status and will it reformat my phone to factory?
Also one in Astro you have to go into the settings and tell it to allow the browser to download any file type. It should pop up a warning about it mucking with gmail.
1.Open Astro
2.Tap Menu
3.Tap More
4.Tap Preferences
5.Enable Browser Downloads
I followed the update procedure, everything went fine, it installed everything and asked to be rebooted. This first reboot never made it past the white M screen. Did a battery pull, waited a while, turn back on, stuck on the white M screen.
I was from a stock 2.1 install, no root or anything.
The phone will not let me install the update again, I get this error:
...
Verifying current system...
assert failed: apply_patch_check("/system/framework/core.odex", "269f5479367e1fc0d863e24f4d0bdf6858f1b168", "217d9d44db9c42507884f2c9a77ed8c5e624f0c3)
E:Error in /sdcard/update.zip
(Status 7)
Installation aborted.
What can I do?? Do I need to wait more than 15 mins at the M screen? Thanks.
So does anyone know why Astro wont let me move the update.zip file from my SD card to my root file? I have tried copy/paste doesnt let me paste in root. I have also tried Move/Paste and still nothing. It's as if I don't have access to my own root file. I can look in it and there is nothing in the file. Please help!

Mount your phone to your computer and move it from /download directory to the /root directory. That's all I can suggest at this point.

It needs to be in the root dir of your SD CARD not Android. I tried the same thing at first.
On a side note, I'm happy to report that I'm experiencing no perceivable difference in battery life and LauncherPro is snappy! (I love that home/launcher app)
This is the version of Froyo that Verizon will be releasing. This is just a way to get it early.
Is that true? Won't the branch Verizon releases have logic wrt to tethering requiring an additional fee before accessing? I installed this version hoping to cut VZ off at the knees wrt tethering.

Trust me, this is what Google and Verizon are going to release. We got this directly from Google's servers.
Well, waited an hour at the white M splash screen. Can anyone help me out?

OK but that kinda bums me out because that means VZ will still try to bend me over the couch (charge me $$$) to use functionality that I've enjoyed for free since getting my Droid. Oh well, back to the hack method I suppose.

1. Boot into recovery:
You will need to preform a factory reset on your device. You will be accessing Recovery Mode to do this. Start by powering down the phone completely.
While holding “X” on the physical keyboard, hold the power button to turn on the phone. You may let go of the power button, but do not let go of X.
After a few seconds, an Exclamation Mark icon will appear. You may now let go of X. To access Recovery Mode from the exclamation mark icon, hold the volume up button and then press the camera button.
2. Preform a Factory Reset:
You will then open a text menu with four options. Using the directional pad, navigate to “factory reset/ data wipe” and push the gold, center button to select it.
It will now reset your device. It will let you know when the process is complete. Then you can navigate to "reboot system" and select it by pressing the gold center button.

I think you taking this wrong it doesn't need to be in your root it needs to be in the sdcard which shows up as a folder in astro. You want to move it from download to sdcard in astro the root "/" is exactly that and requires a rooted phone.
Well, no dice, still hangs at the white M screen. Any other ideas? Thanks so far...

I got tired of waiting, but I was neverous about rooting my phone. I am using this version right now and I am posting my results. I am not up to speed on hacking and rooting but I will "take chances" if the risks are limited. I had to use my D Pad for the download. OMG! Thank you thank you thank you!

Not sure if it will help but when the official 2.1 came out my phone did something similar I had to remove the sdcard then do the factory wipe and then after I got past the white M I was able to put in my card while it was still booting and that worked.

*I just want everyone to know that I didn't write this guide, just the first paragraph. You can thank ikithme for the guide.
Now that a .sbf file has been released for our Droid's we can always recover them using RSD Lite. it is pretty easy to use this. Of course if you physically break your phone it won't help, but if you screw anything up software wise you are covered.
If you unplug your phone while doing this it will break it beyond repair, Verizon will not be able to fix it. DO NOT ATTEMPT THIS UNLESS YOU ABSOLUTELY NEED TO USE IT!
Make sure you download the correct drivers for your system either 32bit or 64bit
Instructions:
1. Download all of the files above including the 32-bit OR 64-bit Motorola USB Drivers.
2. Install RSDLite AND the 32-bit or 64-bit Motorola USB Drivers (Depends on your system most will need 32-bit some will need 64-bit)
3. Connect your phone to USB and turn it off then turn it back on, while your phone is booting hold up on the DPAD. (Some users have said it is easier to hold the volume down button and camera button instead.)
4. Run RSD Lite 4.6 as Administrator (For all you Vista and 7 folks out there. If you are using XP you may not need to run as Administrator)
5. Click the ... next to the filename box and browse to where you saved the .sbf file and double click the .sbf file.
6. Hit start and below it should give you completion progress and all of that.
7. Once your phone is done being flashed (It may take a while so don't unplug it) it will reboot and you will be back at stock 2.0.1 no root.
8. Done

Motorola for the awesome phone, usb drivers and RSDLite.
Still cant get it to work. Is there going to be a OTA update where i dont have to do any of this?
Yes the OTA will be coming starting this week. Thats all we are doing here is speeding up the process. Not sure when the OTA will come to you I read Verizon figures it will take something like 2 weeks to get it all pushed out.
Thanks. I'll have to wait until I get home, though. My work pc won't unzip the RSDLite file, and I can't download the 2.0.1 sbf file because of company filters. I'll see how it goes.
I just did the upgrade to 2.2. everything seemed to work fine except when I went into my music library it got all jacked up. Mostly that artist/album information was missing or for some reason, switched.
