Default upload songs to droid?

i assumed this would be a rather simple process, but i plugged my phone into the computer and the SD card (in the phone) didnt show up.

i took the SD card out and put it into the computer but i couldnt copy anything.

i dont want to rebuy all my mp3s (DRM free btw), how do i do this?

if i could use my mp3s for ringtones too please tell me how.

Winded up figuring this one out, too:

If the folder doesn't exist, create it first. It'll recursively scan directories and read the id3 tags of MP3's/etc. Works perfectly for me!

Also, if you're a fan of "Syncing" your music, Windows Media Player will detect your Droid and sync your library with it. I don't manage my MP3's in that way, but I know lots of people do.

Use doubleTwist if you want iTunes-like syncing. It will take your iTunes music and automatically sync it with any Android device. Works very well.

Sync, Play & Send to BlackBerry, PSP, iPod, iPhone with doubleTwist

You turn it to mass storage mode by mounting it as I'd described in the other thread:

there are a couple apps for making songs ringtones. Just go to the multimedia apps market.

QUESTION:
it doesn't show anything happening on my droid while using double tiwist but on the application on my computer it shows a bar at the bottom but like not moving at all or verrrrry slow. is it supposed to do that?

To use an MP3 as a ringtone, just play the song in the android media player and while it's playing tap the menu key and select "Use as Ringtone".

Ringdroid from Market is also very nice for creating a ringtone.

I've experienced two instances of non-responsiveness while simply dragging and dropping mp3's onto the mounted SD card. I was moving multiple file folders (album folders) at one time, and I had to take out the battery just to restart the phone. Somewhat frustrating.

Had to click on the playlist to the left and wait for the media to populate. It took awhile.

Does anyone know what for playlist are saved in Android? It takes forever to load files over the usb but half the time if I mount the SD in my lap top.

Default Tried both Double Twist and Media Monkey for syncing music

I tried both applications and while it is easier to get your playlists from iTunes and WMP into DoubleTwist, I found the performance of DoubleTwist to be lacking. It seems to lock up - and slowed up my laptop - and it didn't initially allow me to choose which playlists to sync up.

So after reformatting my SD card, I gave Media Monkey a try and had much better results. The one catch with Media Monkey is that for it to recognize your existing playlists they have to be in m3u format so there is an extra step. I had to go into Windows Media Player and begin to play each playlist and then go to "File --> Save Now Playing List As ..." and save a copy of each playlist as a M3U file. Then I went back into Media Monkey and had it search my folder again and all of the playlists showed up. Once I did that the syncing of music and playlists was a piece of cake. I synced up 2400+ songs and 25 playlists with no issues or errors.

How did you get Mediamonkey to recognize the Droid? I've got the Droid hooked up right now and it doesn't detect any devices to sync to.

On the Droid have you "USB Connected" and then selected "Mount"? Once you do that Media Monkey will show the SD card as a removable disk. Then you right click on the "Removable Device" and select the option "Configure Device" where you will select which playlists, files, artists, etc. that you want to sync. After you have selected all items you want to sync, you will right-click again and select "Auto-Sync". It took me about 40 minutes to sync 2,400+ songs with no issues.

Instead of right-clicking on the drive inside media Monkey you can also go up to "Tools --> Sync Device--> Configure Device" and then set up what you want to sync and then "Tools --> Sync Device--> Sync Device" to complete the action.

I guess my problem is that I don't know how to configure the device properly. How do I configure it? I mean, I know how to actually enter the configuration screen, but there are tons of options there and I'm getting a bit lost.

For example, I want to set it up so that all of my 4-5-star songs get automatically synced up. Is that possible? How do I do it? Also, where are playlist files supposed to be saved on the SD card? Should they be in a specific directory?

Sorry about the noob questions.

I've tried double twist, media monkey and a few other 3rd party apps and the one that i've stuck with is iTunes Agent. it's free and works flawlessly. integrates directly with iTunes and works on all devices that can be seen as a drive. iTunes Agent

When you set up the SD card, create a folder named "Music" and another named "Playlists" and media Monkey will use those as the sync source.

Probably the easiest thing to make sure to get the 4-5 star songs is to make a playlist that has all of them in it.

I found the most manageable part of setting up the items to sync was to just pick playlists - I have one playlist named "Droid" that has all of the songs I want on the phone in it and then I use that playlist to make adjustments.

I've actually almost got everything all set up except for one minor hitch: I can't get mediamonkey to sync the music anywhere other than the root directory of the SD card. It's strange actually. Even when I set it to put the music in the "\Music\" folder, it won't do it. And yet, when I tell it to put the playlists in the "\Music\Playlists\" folder, it works perfectly. Anybody else have this problem? This is one thing holding me back right now.

I actually didn't direct Media Monkey where to save anything. i just set up folders on the SD card for Music and a separate at the root of the SD card for Playlists, and it ended up putting everything in the right place.

I'm trying to sync my music with my Macbook (running Snow Leopard), and with both DoubleTwist and Salling my computer freezes every time I try and do a sync. I've also tried using Automator to copy iTunes items to the phone and it also froze. Not only that but my phone freezes too (I have to remove the battery to do anything) The only luck I had was if I manually copied the songs over through Finder, or from time to time I could get DoubleTwist to work so long as I wasn't doing ANYTHING else on my computer. I'll have to give Media Monkey a try!

Also look at Songbird (Songbird - Open Source Music Player) by Mozilla and install the FolderSync add-on. Works great and is multi-platform (Windows, Mac, and Linux).

Thanks for the tip! Hopefully I'll be able to run one of these without locking up my phone and laptop!

I use MediaMonkey and recently figured out how to get it working with my Droid. I wrote a very lengthy article on the MediaMonkey forums indicating how I did this. Feel free to check it out and I hope it might help some of you folks.

Using MediaMonkey with Droid

Thanks!
