I just wanted to bring this to everyone's attention, and perhaps you could add this to the description. If you "fix" this app. and make it possible to adjust the strength of the LED, a maximum mode in an LED can (and if is strong enough for this phone, will) hurt the LED bulb after using it for extended periods of time (even in military grade equipment). So if you can keep it on a lower setting, do that unless absolutely necessary to put it to full strength. I also suggest you put a disclaimer that you are not responsible for broken equipment and that people use this software at their own risk. You don't want some jerk trying to sue you or be a nuisence, otherwise. Trust me, there are a lot of people with nothing better to do, than try and score a few bucks.

DOH! Test results are tainted. I had my (2) email accounts polling from K-9 Mail (which checks all folders in online account) the whole time. One account every 5 minutes, the other every 10...my bad...was testing LED colors for email notifications.
I'm not sure how the battery notifies, but I'm sure my numbers would extend past 2 hours completly idle before it changed to 80%.
This Android OS is the bomb. I started this post/request and have been following it since, and now we actually have the wish fullfilled: )
An Officer can never have too many flashlights.

1. If light is off, and the keyboard is slid out, the light will turn on.
2. If light is on, and keyboard is slid out, it will flash for a moment.
3. If light is off, and keyboard is slid in, the light will turn on.
4. If light is on, and the keyboard is slid in, the will flash for a moment.
All same conditions witnessed on my Droid as well. Running: LED Flashlight Ver. 2
For bugs 2 & 4 it seems to be once the keyboard is about 1/4" slid out from being in the closed position.
Also could be a bit brighter, my Casio Exilim & Boulder/G'z One blow this OUT of the water in brightness/intensity.
I would pay additionally just to be able to have Hi/Lo options, and a slide out=On, slide in=Off type switch would be awesome. Also it'd probably be wise to put in a small menu, triggered from the menu with a Help/About/Vers. Well maybe not wise, but it'd be easier to check the vers. that way than having to go to Settings, App Mgmt, LED Flashlight to dig up the vers. #.

or just go to the Market --> Menu button --> Downloads.... and it will list all of your downloaded apps. if any have updates, it will say it.
Any app I've downloaded automatically notifies me in the notification bar that updates are available. Don't know if that's written into the coding of each app or if it's a Market thing, but that's what it does on my phone.
BTW, this is my first paid app and well worth it. Another thing the Droid Does that the iPhone toy doesn't.
suggestion: i have seen somone else mention this too, the screen with the on/off button seems very bright. can this be an update to make the screen dimmer so its easier to see what im lighting up with the flashlight? thanks very good app otherwise!
Works really well. Great job, my suggestions have already been said by others. Lower screen brightness when led is on (but you can just put your phone to sleep so its not that bad) and maybe make the leds a little brighter; not 100% necessarily but maybe 70 or 80%. Also a widget would be awesome. I'm not sure how it all works but I would be willing to make graphics for it or even graphics for the app to make the on/off look snazzier.

Yea it is caused by the Auto Brightness feature. The light seems to initially make it think it is in a brighter room. I am going to try and work around it.
I have an idea for a 2nd app: A brightness control widget that has auto as an option. Power Control widget changes brightness but I have to go all the way back into the settings to set it back to auto. What a pain!

I'm on a Droid, man. It's going fast, and- I've got a nautical themed pashmina afghan.
Followed this thread and bought the app. Great work! Even with the lower LED setting it is brighter than LCD screen. Can't wait to see the possibilities from this.
If you're still in need of beta testers heres my email tghockey07 @ gmail . com. I would just buy the app, but i dont have a credit card therefore i can't purchase anything.
i found another use for it u can leave it on and go to video! but its not that bright i made a little video

Thanks Chet!
You two have just convinced me that I need this app
I just tried this with shop savy in a pitch black closet...picked up the barcode no problem. My only concern is that it after it scans it automatically shuts off the LED (which is a good thing), but when I go back into the flashlight, that app still thinks it's on, so if i hit the on/off button, it'll say "flashlight off" (and the light will remain off). This is not a problem for me unless forgetting to "turn off" the already off flashlight could be problematic becasue of some script that's running in the background.
Speaking of flashlight apps that are widget-based... someone seems to have come up with a solution already. "MotoTorch Lite"... also $0.99. Just clicking the widget turns the light on and off... no application interface. Nice!
Also... i'm assuming the "Lite" reference means that there might be a more advanced version on the way? Guess we'll see.
Just boiught it. If you decide to do a widget, PLEASE make it a separate choice, I like that this is an app for many reasons. Also, if you go to 100% on the LED as an option, you could always put it on a 3-5 second timer, with a warning on the screen at same time that says "Extended use of BRIGHT mode" will damage the phone". Having a few seconds of max brightness solves a lot of problems, I don't need so much light once I know where to focus my search.
Good luck selling your app. Here is hoping every droid owner pays for one.

Or a button you have to hold down for max brightness.
