Default Is there an easy way to switch to vibrate only?
or do i have to lower the volume to zero an turn vibration on?

On the lock screen, slide the volume icon to the left.

also on the home screen...adjust the volume key on the side down till it goes to vib

Or if you want a one click solution look for Ringer Toggle Widget

which doesn't work if you have an unlock pattern set.
