In my baterry use indicator in settings, my phone says mediaserver used about 40% of my battery life. Another 50% was from the screen. I was playing slacker radio for a few hours and that's only about 3% of my batter use. I tried using taskiller, to see if this would slow down mediaserver, but it didn't seem to. What is mediaserver and why is it using so much of my battery? I unplugged around 6 AM and it's 2:30 now and my battery is down to 15% so I shut the phone off. I haven't used the phone for much besides slacker radio, so I wouldn't think my battery should die so quickly.

For what it's worth I use Advanced App Killer. I found this about mediaserver.


The mediaserver is any Native or Application which uses or streams your media which can be music, videos, even apps like iMeem, streamfurious, Pandora, TuneWiki, You Tube, and don't forget the apps. Which we download free MP3's from. iMusic, MusicOnline, Music Search. All these apps have their own music players. I'm not sure which one you use, and depending on if you have 3G connection, WiFi, or use Edge. Downloads then listening via any of the apps with music players, will use much more battery life due to disconnects while downloading, or streaming music or videos. I listen to hours, and hours of MP3's and checked my battery analyzer use since the 1.6 "Donut" update. With and without using my Stereo Wireless Bluetooth Headset music! With the G1 charging and using the wireless headset the mediaserver use was somewhat less at 68%. Without the G1 on the charger and the HTC adapter plugged into the USB port and earbud type headset the mediaserver was a whopping 82%. One reason is I'm using the onscreen controls to stop, pause switch playlists etc.. the balance of useage was screen settings and Android Core Processer. You can use Taskiller app the kill your media streaming app. But..your media "music" will stop. I guess your answer is yes you can stop the "task" run-media-player. Now that you know what it is and why you use it, do you really want to "kill" or force stop your playback? Remember the battery use analyzer isn't telling you there is a problem. It is a great way to track use. It may suggest to adjust some screen settings, like brightness, time-out 1min, 30sec,etc. This I find very helpful when I can't charge, or wish to extend battery life. I think your Android's battery use analyzer is just telling you "Hey, you like your music!" Like mine is saying "Browser is at 80% useage" that's due to being on the forum for over an hour! Go: Apps -> running -> cached processes. Go to Android media server, and clear the data for this. I found (using Watchdog Lite) that the demand on the S3 just dropped right off.

Also, try a battery recalibration also?
