Default play order in music player

I finally got around to putting some music files on the phone, sounds great, but the player plays the tracks of an album in alphabetical order, not in normal track order. Does anyone know of a solution to this? Right now all my music files (28 gigs worth) are wma files....could this be the problem? I want to convert all of them to mp3, anyone know of a quick way to do this. I know there are several programs I can use to do this, it just sounds rather time consuming. Hoping someone might have some tip for quick conversion.

Yeah, I hated this too. I'm a Foobar2000 user and I'm so accustomed to being able to sort things in one big list however I want. So I wanted it sorted by artist name WITHOUT having to pick their name and their album off a list; I just want all the songs by artist A followed by all the songs by artist B, and I didn't have that option. So I downloaded MixZing Lite from the Android Marketplace. Then I downloaded the following program for my computer: oddgravity - where time becomes a loop

It allows you to make M3U playlists. Simply make the playlist in whatever order you want, save it to a certain location on your Droid along with all the songs it covers, and go to the "playlist" option in MixZing Lite and they'll be in the order you wanted.

It's definitely not the easiest solution but it's the one I'll stick with for now.

EDIT: Unless you're on Linux, you really don't have any options outside of using a program. As far as free programs go, Foobar2000 includes a simple multi-codec encoder. But if you want to be quick and efficient and do whatever you want to your tracks, look into dBPowerAmp. It's not free, but I think they may offer a trial, and it has plugins for pretty much any codec you want. You can even do batch conversions and if you have a multi-core PC, it encodes one song in each core so everything goes much faster. I recommend using the LAME encoder at V0 quality.

Default Android music player puts music in alphabetical order!!!!

I am having the same problem with my music player downloading and playing music in alphbetical order. I previously owned HTC windows mobile phone and the Samsung Moment is my first Android phone. I listen/play music all the time and this is the only problem Im having with this phone.

Please help, need my phone to sync and play music in album order and not alphabetical order. Will llike to continue to create playlist in windows media player and sync to android music player

Shadowdude777 response seems too confusing and I need something simple!

I'm having this issue as well. HTC Incredible and I've used the native apps and "3", none of them will sort by track. When I play an album I want it to be in order!

I think I figured out why this is happening. (Found this thread via Google searching for the same problem). Android is looking at ID3v2 tags. If you only have v1 tags it won't recognize the track order right. There are plenty of free desktop based apps for Windows/Mac/Linux that you can use to relatively quickly sync the different tags or completely re-tag your music to get it to work right.

This is what I discovered on HTC Incredible (Android 2.1) and seems to be consistent across various music apps.

28 GB of music on your Droid? You got a 32GB microSD card? Last I saw those things were running $200

I think he's just saying that's how much music he has. Not that is how much music he's putting on his phone.
