Speedtest
So what is your speed test on this new DROID?
Coming from Motorola Q -> Samsung Omnia -> Blackberry Storm -> Motorola Droid, I never got anywhere close to the what DROID DOES for me!
Man, DROID really DOES SPEED!

3G speed on Droid
I just downloaded the Ookla Speedtest.net app and got 2069/611Kbps on 3G. That's really fast for Verizon as far as I know. What do you get?

Cool app. Just ran it and got 1Mbps down and 850kbps up. i'd gladly trade some of that upload bandwidth for some down though...
Guys, I've merged the two threads on the same topic. Let's continue to use this one to post our results.

My Wi-Fi was 751.2/63.8. My 3G was 177.5/77.8. I am pissed that my cable provider has worse upload speeds than 3G in an area with one bar. Guys, never get Roadrunner. They're a truly horrible service. Their upload speed is abysmal.

Oof.. I feel like my 3G service in this area is royally boned compared to the results others are getting. Granted, I'm not in a major city, but I always thought we had generally good coverage. Apparently it's either very saturated or far from a major hub, because...
Rochester, NY
DOWN: 388 kbps
UP: 361 KBPS
My download speed is almost slower than my upload. Strange, too, because everything seems to load relatively quickly. I'm not sure why the actual test results would indicate that it is so slow.

Those of you with scores in the 300s, you may not be on the EVDO-Rev A. network, but on the older, Rev 0 standard.
You can check by entering Settings, About Phone, and Status.

Ok, so I solved my own problem. My low speed was due to being at work. I think I had a lousy connection even though I was getting 3G. When I tried it again at home with 4 bars I got:
DOWN: 1203 kbps
UP: 665 kbps

That's more like it, I was gonna say in Rochester you should definitely have Rev A, I was just in Henrietta and I had it. Heck even my little town here in Mass has Rev A.

Get outta here with that Hero
Hehe, jk jk.
The ping is going to be high, because of the nature of wireless. By the way, you have 3G on that Hero, no 4G for you!
I just reran this test.

I have gotten as high as 2.50 MBPS down and 0.93 MBPS up, on average I get just under 2MBPS which for a town of under 15k is freakin' sweet. With AT&T I only got stinky EDGE and that would net be around 160kbps DL 115kbps UL, and they have no plans of every getting 3G out here. So glad I went back to VZW.

I'm currently located in Southern NJ about 10 minutes outside Philadelphia. I did the test ten times in different rooms throughout my house. The server I am on is located in Philadelphia and is hosted by Comcast. after doing the math, here is the average result.
1334/dl
537/ul
Not awful... Cool thing however, is I'm going on a road trip today for work up to Boston, so I'll try and take some reading along the trip each time I hit a new server. I'll be back Sunday to post my results, or if I'm feeling bored in the hotel room, I'll do it from the Droid

You know you can go into settings and choose different servers? I dunno if the distance will play a big part in the results but I live in western MA and I get better results using a server in seabiscuis NJ then I do with the one in Boston/Manchester, NH.

Got a question for you guys...
my wifi at home
2,100 down 700 up
3G at home
787 down 350 up
So comparing these numbers I should definately be using my wifi while at home, however in normal browsing of the internet, it seems to me that 3G is noticeably faster in loading pages when comparing the two.
Anyone know why this might be?
