This is the way to do it...I tried it and now it works. However, there is a delay from when you change the file type...you need to get out of that program and then when you get back in it works.
I tried to do the above and no files of any kind, let alone a movies file was available to select. In fact the app is a total zero for me. You can not access anything.
Go to iphonlounge.com and download a movie.create a file called movies on your sd card.drop file inmovies and it will be in your gallery.I've got clash of the titans and it rocks!

ok - i downloaded a movie in mp4 format from megauploads - to my computer. moved it to my droid and tried to play it but it says that it is unable to play the video - what's the deal? Do i need to change some setting or something ? do i need to download a special player or codec in order to watch?

here is what I did and it works great.
connect the phone to PC using the USB cable, go into USB mode. open the SD card on the computer, and create a "videos" folder, drag and drop your video files (i have only used MP4 files) into the videos folder.
disconnect.
go into gallery, find the videos folder, open it up, click on a video, and it will start playing. this also works with double twist. i have had great success doing this and absolutely zero problems with this method.
I get all my videos from torrents btw...i know, i am bad
Just drag and drop to card. Make a file and call it movies. Go to the apps store and download astro. Then all you have to do is open astro find the file named " movies" and you'll see a list of the movies you dropped in the file and select the movie and it will pay. Make sure the movies are in mp4 format. If the file has an .m4v that's OK cause once you have the movie in the folder you can change it to mp4 by press/hold the actual movie file and select rename.
OK so I tried using the astro method, and renaming the file to Mp4 didn't help. I've also tried ripping dvd's but I can't find a good program to decode, rip, then convert it to playable format. Can someone please send me easy step-by-step instructions? I have the droid 2.
I watch movies and Showtime and HBO series on my Droid for free. It takes a little effort, but not a big deal. Check out the details in my blog at Hooked on Droid - Android Tips and Apps
can't make this work - should I go back to Beta tapes?

Still can't make this work on my Incredible. Got the free version of Astro and it works well. Changed the m4v to mp4 okay. Exited Astro, came back, still getting "cannot play this video."
Any ideas?
Does it matter that my folder is called "video"? (surely not.)
thanks.
Convert the movie once more using handbrake, use the iPhone & iPod Touch pre-set, you may have to adjust the screen size back to the original size before you reconvert.

You don't mention where to GET movies! iTunes? where? what URL do you go to to download movies or TV?
Yea, and that's one of the few occasions where I see the feature being worthwhile... plane/train/boat rides... any others?
Do you really need to know why someone needs to do something in order to answer the question. Lots of people have free time where we don't have a computer but want to watch an episode of tv or a movie. Ever watched tv while working out? What about if you have a job with hours of no work but you can't leave? My point is....does it matter why someone needs to do something?
I'm not sure if it was just too technical for me but I need a simple answer. Is there an easy way for me to download movies and watch them on my droid?
Free or not, I'm looking for an iTunes like solution?
Use "Save Video plugin for Internet Explorer" (http://www.savevideoplugin.com) Just select options "Convert>Devices>Droid" before download videos. I love this plugin. really convenient!
I personally use QQPlayer.
Free app, seems decent too.
I have a little problem with the audio on some .ogg and .mkv type files (anime), however avi runs like a dream.
I have no clue on it's effects with iTunes file types, but you could give it a try.
Another cool thing with it is you can "scroll" up and down on the right to adjust the volume without pausing/using menus or getting a pop-up showing it.
Also, you can "scroll" left & right at the bottom to search the video.
And finally, you can also set the player to only look in a specific folder for possible video files, allowing you to not accidentally pick up camera recordings.

I'm getting this message as well. Can anyone help?
I'm using MP4 files that I ripped using MagicDVDRipper. When I use mVideoplayer to look up the files I put on my Droid I can see the titles, and the first scene of the movie is shown in the picture, but when I click on it to watch it it only says "Cannot play this video".
Im perplexed. Just left Iphone for the second time. Trying to download movies for wife and i to watch on plane trip tomorrow. Everything i read is either I have to have a Motorola phone from Verizon or I have to have wifi access for streaming.

Have you tried QQ Player?
It works for AVI just fine. The only problems I have had is usually with OGG, MKV, etc. And if you are playing with those formats, you shouldn't mind converting them

If you want everything to work fine for you, and all devices to work well together, just get a Macintosh computer, phone, and ipod. The only thing is, they will be telling you exactly what you can do with the equipment. You just have to remember to get the whole set. Apple only likes to talk to Apple (they can to others, but it's tricky at times and can be a hassle). I'm not saying anyone who goes that route is stupid, or dumber, I just believe that you need to know what bandwidth you have for your phone. Is it a gadget (ooh let's play with this button!) or is it a piece of hardware that makes calls and relieves you of boredom randomly?
You want flexibility, customization, and free reign? Go Android. You might have to do a little more work, but you can get things to work well for you. I still have an OG Droid, running Android 2.3.7 CM 7.1 and it is moving fast and smoothly. I can even stream Netflix!

Just tried this app, and it works great. It would even play some movies (mp4 format) that the stock video player and DoubleTwist would not...
Trying to get a few movies on the Droid before my 4 hour flight tomorrow.
I wanted to watch a movie on my most recent flight but I apparently don' t have it all figured out yet. I rented a movie, downloaded to my email an d then tried to play it. I switched my phone to airplane mode. Then ofcourse was unable to get a signal to view. I am completely new to this so keeping the instructions easy would be great. Thank you.

it helps to play almost all popular video including AVI, Xvid, DivX, MKV, WMV, RM, FLV, SWF, ASF, MPG, MOV, MPEG, HD, MTS, M2TS, and TS on Android phone like Motorola Droid, Samsung i7500, Samsung Galaxy, HTC Hero, HTC Legend, HTC Desire HD, HTC Wildfire, Motorola Flipout, Sony Ericsson Xperia X10, LG Ally and etc
I'm late to this party, but I'm going to post anyway & hopefully it can help someone else. In general to rip and convert video to play on mobile devices you need to do some research...learn about conversion rates, file extension types, etc. The more you learn the better off you'll be. I'm by no means a master, but what I have learned, I did by just googling A LOT. But without rambling further, here is my method (note: there are probably THOUSANDS of ways to do this, so find what works for you).
1. Download DVD Decrypter (an oldie but a goodie). Read the FAQ's to figure out how to use. Not too difficult. Hint: for ripping individual episodes you'll be using the IFO mode.
**After doing this, I used to use RKVideoConverter, but it has ads & is worrisome since it runs from the internet, I think. You can look it up & try it out for yourself. There are some advantages of using it. It is fairly easy to use & it is designed to convert to Ipod compatible format & will automatically import into iTunes, if you're into that. I have all of my purchased DVD tv shows in iTunes, it has a nice user interface IMHO.**
2. Okay, sorry for getting sidetracked. Since the time I used RK, I have tried numerous other converters...some easier to use than others...I got tired of downloading a bunch of different programs to my PC that all basically did the same thing. I finally buckled & paid for some software.
I am now using NCH Software's Prism Media Converter Plus. I'm not a salesman, just telling you what I use. Try it out if you want after all your research and see if you like it, of course they offer a free trial. It's easy to use, you can convert multiple files at the same time and it does give you a lot of options for conversion if you are a bit more advanced.
Once it converts a file into a mobile compatible file, you are all set. Just drag & drop anywhere you want and it should play on most anything you have.
So to recap: DVD Decrypter--decrypts dvd files into useable .VOB files, then you need to convert .VOB files into a format playable on mobile devices, like .MP4, etc. Using a video converter like Prism Media Converter or RKVideoConverter.
I know it sounds vague, but if you look those programs up and read the FAQ's and do a little studying, you'll be watching your shows on anything you want.
I for instance, am now watching my Futurama DVD episodes on my Droid Razr MAXX, that I just converted a few hours ago.
In Android phones I watch many movies. The picture quality is superb in android mobiles. Sound quality is good. I watch these movies :-
1. Don 2
2. Titanic
