I'm a big music listener. My Droid is basically playing music 24/7.
I wonder if anyone else gets ticked off when you are listening to music, and interrupted with a notification. For those who never used an iphone, the music would fade a little, you'd get a short message tone, then volume would adjust back up.
The music player on the Droid just cuts off, beeps, and goes back to music.
Another thing that would be awesome is, when the phones locked and playing music, you hold the home key and the music player pops up so you can forward, or whatever without unlocking, going to app, etc.
I agree on both points. I came from an iPhone and I liked how the music faded for the notification. The total cutoff is jarring. And double-tapping the home button to get the mini-player controls was very handy. It's a pain to navigate back to the "Now playing" screen on the Droid, unless there are shortcuts available that I'm not aware of.
Open messaging
Go to settings (menu button)
Under notification settings, select ringtone and make it SILENT
I selected vibrate to make sure I knew when a notification came through though. I am using Android 2.0 (Moto DROID) and I don't think it makes a difference but I have the Rings Extended App installed. I say that just in case doing this without the app installed does not work for you, that might be the quirky reason why.
You would also have to do this for all the GMAIL app i found out because it will interrupt your music.
My hunch is that when you put the phone's ringer volume on vibrate or silent, the music/ringtone that plays for your notification still plays when they come through only it inaudible since you put it on silent. Therefore the "silent interruption" you get while listening to your music is your ringtone playing...but you can't actually hear it.
HTC folks, please post and let everyone know if this works on your phone so other's know since I'm using moto DROID.
This is really annoying me, and I don't want to have to go into my settings to silence my notifications every time I want to listen to music. Does anyone know of a good volume profile app that actually controls to the level of vibrate/silence/volume for notifications? I have Quick Profiles but I am disappointed to learn that it only sets the volume of notifications to 0%, which still allows them to interrupt my music.
Any additional insight on this? I'm still vexed by this many times each day.

This is correct from what I've seen. Silence does just that - turns the volume of any notification to 0% - but it doesn't actually prevent the playing of the notification. Since this is a software issue, I highly doubt it matters which phone you have as opposed to which version of Android you are running. HTC and Motorola alike will have this issue. Hopefully they fix this in 2.1.

Maybe someone can give the dev for MixZing a nudge and put in code that when music is playing, the app auto turns off the notification tones? His app's ambitions, should they come to fruition, will make MixZing everyone's music player anyway (it so kicks the Droid's built in one)
why not just put the music widget on one of your homescreens? so you can control some things from that?
This issue is not impacted by the (standard) music app/widget. The issue is that the phone still plays a "silent" notification, interrupting the music.
That said: I would definitely use a replacement music app that suppressed the audio interruption (while retaining the vibrate!).
I use the stock player on the droid, and i have a question. I listen to music alot during work, and i need to figure out to end the program, instead of having to go into app settings and force close it.

I just want a stop button, instead of pause an or play so i can shutdown the player, without it running in the background using battery.
This is one of a handful of cases where I condone the use of a task killer. I use TaskPanel only to shut down my media players so as to save battery power when not listening or watching anything.
I'm under the impression that the stock media player is NOT running in the background (at least it's not consuming CPU cycles) when paused. I have NEVER killed it. I pause/unpause all the time. I don't see it taking up an inordinate amount of battery power (even when it is actually running).
I don't think it uses any amount of significant battery power, though I like to keep a task killer around just to clear out the memory once in a while.
