I got a good laugh out of it for a few days watching people go WTF every time it went off. After that I changed it to something less obtrusive. It amused me though
i love the droid sound, but i made a custom one. it sounds like soundwave from the transformers cartoon saying
"R7 has received an incoming notification."
i have it so he says the names of people that call me the most. it sounds kick ass. but for some reason, R7 doesnt recognize my custom sounds anymore : (
thats why i joined...looking for a solution.
cheers
mike
ps. named my droid "R7" as a tribute to R2D2 and 7 costanza.
Try this one .... sounds from District 9. I use it and it freaks everyone out, super gnarly droidish sounds!

I remember thinking those sounds were really cool. I went and shortened it up a bit to use as an alert. cause 15 secs is more like a ringtone. Hope someone likes it. I do.

Your right. I was using mine as the ringtone, props for making a great alert!
changed it the day I got the phone. Gotta say tho, I'm really impressed with the number of decent sounding ringtones it comes with. Radiation is really funny, since it sounds like a GSM phone sitting next to a speaker. Clever.
Love this sound. I use it for all notifications. Every contact has a different song as their ringtone. Unknown callers get The Tubes "Talk to ya Later". Not super original but I'm easily amused
I found a site that translates words into R2D2's voice so I use one R2D2 saying email messages and one that says Motorola Droid. My other sound is R2D2 screaming.lol I just get a kick out of it. Droid on a Droid! See what I did there? lol
I've had the DROID sound ever since the phone came out for texts but I started geting tired of it so I changed it to what the Palm Pre Plus uses for notifications. I only had the Pre for a day but I got something useful out of it at least.
i have been using the "droid" sound since day one for all notifications. At work it hasn't gotten to the point that when it goes off, everyone around me starts saying "droid" in their best voice. Still pretty comical. Now most of them have bought the droid.

I love that tone - the deep part at the very beginning and then later would be awesome if substituted by the DROID sound. Listen to it, it's already kinda close.
I use the guitar solo from Whole Lotta Love for when my wife calls. Everyone else gets ELP's Fanfare for the Common Man except any calls from work get Star Wars: Imperial March.
I too, find the "droooid" really annoying.
For my notifications I use a quacking duck for txts, and a horse whinny for emails.
For ringtones, my wife gets Steve Winwoods' "Valerie," 'cause that's her name. Work gets Frank Zappa's "I'm the slime (coming out of your teevee set)" because I work at a tv station. And most everyone else gets Men Without Hats "who can it be now."
I love it. My friends all repeat it DROIIIIIIIIIIIIID bc they think it's so cool lol. My coworker in the cube next to me does it now too. Anytime my phone rings he imitates the Crank dying ringtone too which is pretty funny.
I keep the Droid sound for basic SMS/MMS. I use the Lost computer beep (1x) for my incoming Gmail. I have a U2 Electrical Storm intro clip I use for Facebook notifications. I actually want to set up a few more specialized.
There's no way to make a specialized voicemail alert sound is there?
NO WAY that sound creaps me out!!! The first night I got the phone I was all alone in the house and I got a text... ***looked around the room creaped out*** first thought was that needs to go NOW!
I use it for text messages. I love that noise! First time my friend heard it, she jumped because she thought it would start transforming and attack her.

I let it say "Droooiiiid" if my husband texts because he has a Droid. My normal ringtone is the "Banana Phone" song and when my husband calls, it plays the ringtone from that Geico commercial "Ringda ding ding DONG!" It's so funny, I don't mind if the people at work look at me when it goes off.
