Default Augmented reality

Are there any of these apps that will work for the Droid.

I have one called Wikitude installed but have not really tried it out other than messing around with it. Layar is the big one, but it has not been updated for Android 2.0 (and Droid). They will be releasing V3 in a few weeks that will work on the Droid. I hear that Layar is the best one on the market thus far for Androids. If anyone has any others, I would love to hear your suggestions.

There's a game called SpecTrek that uses augmented reality to search for "ghosts" in your neighborhood. Kinda fun but not useful except as a game If you're into that sort of thing.

Cool concept anyway, can't wait to see augmented reality worked into more and more apps.

I'm not very familiar with the G1 (and haven't tested street view heavily on the droid) but I do know that the digital compass is accurate and updates itself in other apps, if that helps at all. Sorry, I know that's probably a weak response

I just mapped from my GPS location to my house in Maps (not Navigator) went to a location I know has street view, and went to street view.

Hit soft-key, Compass Mode, and it seems like as I move the phone in circles or up and down, street view is rotating with me.

I think that's what you meant? If so...yup, Droid does

I tried to recreate what you did....you said you did this in Maps (not maps.google.com)?

How do you get the street view? Thanks.

Went to the maps app, yeah, not maps.google.com.

Went to a red dot on the route that I knew had street view, and tapped it (or you can go to the List of directions and tap one).

That brings up the balloon with the direction, mine says "Continue on S. Olds Blvd". Long-press the balloon. That was the one I had a hard time figuring out. That brings you into street view.

I'm hoping/assuming this will all happen automatically when navigating, I have seen street view come up while navigating, but haven't been a passenger enough in the past week or two to test heavily

Oh, man....there's nothing that tells you you need to do that, I don't know how you figured it out.

These augmented reality programs seem dangerous...I'm watching the videos of people holding up their phones while driving....YIKES!

Hey, I developed AugSatNav - in the demo video I was actually a passenger

I wouldn't advise anyone to hold their phone while driving just like I would advise against holding your TomTom

Thanks for the mention!

That also works on the droid. It is not on by default. When in street view pull up the menu. It's in there someplace. I tried it the other day.

I use an app called Layar that is augmented reality. I am still trying to get the hang of it. Don't quite understand its use. The cool thing and yet a bit scary for some is that I can pull up Tweetpeeps in that app. It will show me the exact address of where a person is/or was when they made that tweet on twitter. I can select how many miles away radius too. I mean it will tell you the exact address! Thats the scary part! LOL!
