Enjoy improved performance with these OS enhancements.
Verizon Wireless is pleased to announce new software enhancements for your DROID by Motorola smartphone. The Droid by Motorola software
version AP:ESD56/BP:C_01.3E.01P update includes numerous improvements.
The following enhancements to the Droid by Motorola have been made:
xx OS stability is improved.
xx Battery life is improved.
xx Camera auto focus functionality is improved, and time between
shots is reduced.
xx Enhancements for three-way calling.
xx Audio for incoming calls is improved.
xx When receiving a call on call waiting, the speakerphone now
remains on.
xx Bluetooth® functionality is improved; background echo is eliminated.
xx Improved Bluetooth phone book transfer of contacts to in-vehicle
Bluetooth solutions.
xx After closing a GPS application, the GPS icon will now automatically
be removed from the notification panel.
xx Users can now receive SMS and MMS messages after an EMS
message is received.
xx SMS and MMS may now be sent to seven-digit addresses.
xx Google® contact merging has been updated to accommodate
seven-digit numbers.
xx Visual Voice Mail notices now arrive instantaneously.
• The corporate calendar widget user interface is updated.
Unless a claim of recieving the update is accompanied with a photo I'll remain a skeptic of said claims. There are to many that claim to have it but offer no proof.
What I have noticed so far is a new unlock slider, the camera seems to be working a lot better (ill put it to the test later on in the dark to see how it fairs). The voice dialer works a lot better as well, before I could hardly ever get it to work right but now it gets it right on the first try. I'm glad they fixed that. As for voice quality, I called my girlfriend and she said the was a noticeable improvement in how well she could hear my voice. Very nice!
Will we still get notified if we use a different home then the default one?
Yes you will. It'll show up in the notification area. I've seen people claim that you have to go to the System updates page but that isn't true. You will only see something there if you've gotten a notification. Both Google and Verizon have spoken on that when the announcement of an update on the 11th 1st broke.

I found this step of the instruction linked above interesting:
If you are roaming you will not receive a system update notice. You will need to enable Wi-Fi and wait for the update notice to appear or as mentioned above you can manually update by by selecting "Home" > "Menu" > "Settings" > "About phone" > "System updates".
I have been using 3g exclusively the past week or so. I may have to enable wifi at the house later today to see if it jump starts the update process.
i believe there's a semi-complex way using the usb cable, mounting it for debugging, and dealing with all that. but from what i've seen it's a pain. (edit: beat twice while typing! stupid slow fingers)
i'd just take a pic with someone else's phone and MMS it to myself if my camera wasn't handy

I believe if you read some of the steps before, it will only show in the update if you have received the notification for it.

Flash update will have to come from Adobe, not Google/Mot/VZ.
As far as giving city/state/or area code is just a general heads up for how the update is rolling out. Some people have phones with area codes different from where they are "right now" or where they reside. We're just trying to figure out (for the impatient few) how to guage "when we get ours" (or yours since I took mine back).
x2 on improved reception updates.

So anyone who's gotten the update: does the home screen/lock screen rotate again? The fact that it doesn't has frankly been annoying the hell out of me.

Regarding the question about Flash on the Droid, the full desktop version of Flash 10.1 will work on the phone when it's released, first half of 2010. Adobe Labs - Adobe Flash Player 10.1
Flash Lite is different.
I'm anxiously awaiting 10.1. It's a major reason I got the Droid instead of an iPhone.

that is the big one for me too. can't wait for flash support.
Thanks OP for the info. I really hope that this list isn't the only stuff that's updated with this patch. I mean, there are some big issues that should be addressed such as poor "outgoing" calls and gmail's lack of multiple notifications.
