About the same, so its still really choppy and terrible? Thats too bad, i was looking forward to the phone being smoother, but i guess i have to wait for a custom rom for that.
Sure wish I was able to see what others see sometimes. My home screen is not "choppy" at all. I wonder if what people call choppy isnt the way the homescreens actually work, in that if you release your finger before you've scrolled halfway into the new screen it will spring back into the old screen.
When i say the homescreen is choppy, its because when i drag the screen over, i don't see the homescreen move, i just see the middle screen, and then a moment later i see the left screen without any intermediate animation

I've been checking my phone every 30 seconds since I first saw this post...most of us "doubters" were probably being sarcastic or joking around. Don't take everything on the tubes so seriously, Al Gore doesn't.
No update yet here in Lancaster, PA.
Hey hey! I'm from Lancaster too! Crazy.. didn't think I'd meet another lancaster person here! I've yet to find anyone near me that has a Droid! haha
This is something I just found out that is pretty cool. Download the latest Google Maps. Open it, select menu, layers, more layers, my maps...and select DROID 1st OTA Update. This lets you view the progress of updates via your phone.

that would be choppy....i've never had that problem on mine
has any one checked in their dowload folder on the SD card to see if the package was saved there? i am guessing the package had to be saved somewhere. this would make it easy to upload for the rest of us

Really?! That is definetly not how my home screen acts.. The background picture scrolls very smoothly ocasionally on big widgets I'll see them stutter for just a fraction of a second as they move along but it isnt anything I'd even notice unless I'm really looking for it.
really? do you guys just swipe between screens extremely slowly? The only way i've been able to get around the choppiness is to install pandahome. I can't believe you guys don't experience any choppiness on the homescreens, just about every review of this phone mentioned it.
I just spoke with VZN. Apparently you can get bumped up in the update list if you hold the phone in the air, and jump as high as you can. She also mentioned that if you wear a tinfoil hat it will improve reception, and probably speed the update process.

I believe you can get the update via satellite if you updated Maps.

I'll post a video later of my homescreen and how it scrolls.. Even if I flick my finger across quickly it scrolls across to that screen.. It does not jump to it.

Yeah I have massive choppiness on both default Home and in PandaHome. Well, at least when the phone wakes up, or when I go back to home after being in an intensive app for a long time. The screen takes a while for all the widgets to load up, and sometimes doesn't respond for a few seconds to swipes. After a few seconds it seems to smooth itself out, tho. Bscly, if your phone is loaded w/ 'live' widgets and lots of apps (like mine is), it's going to create lag / choppiness.
Keep getting notifications on my phone, hoping it's the udate but it's just gmail telling me someone has replied to this thread. And I turned email notifications off for this site. AH!!!

bump, thsi seemed to have got lost in all the spam
If anyone does get the update could you try the following before you install it?
*Click install and update
*Once the phone reboots (before you get to the recovery screen) pull the battery out.
*Pull out the microSD card and put in a memory card reader.
*See if there is a update.zip on the microSD card
*If there is please upload it to rapidshare and post a link here
After you do that you should be able to power back on the phone with the SD card and the update should continue.

i'm waiting until before christmas to buy my droid. if i buy it after the official update, will it come all ready installed?
Depends which batch of droids you get (what factory date they were manufactured). since its a small incremential update, they might skip putting 2.0.1 directly from the factory and let Verizon reps either update it quick before they give it to you or you do it yourself.
The Motorola Droid - the first ever Verizon Android Phone - exploded onto the mobile market with an incredibly successful ad campaign that brough Android to the masses. With a huge and vibrant touchscreen, solid metal body, full QWERTY keyboard, 5M... Read More
