Default Typos while texting...annoying!

Although I am getting really used to typing with the onscreen keyboard, I am getting annoyed when I type a word or spell a word a certain way on purpose and the Droid seems to correct my spelling or come up with a whole other word completely when I am texting someone or sending email. If I am texting and can't catch it in time, I have to always send another text correcting what I just sent. It puts punctuation in places where it shouldn't be and capitalizes regular words for no reason!

I do like how if I put a punctuation mark, it will automatically capitalize the letter of the next word I type. Everything else is getting on my nerves. What do you all do? I know I can add words to the dictionary but I don't know if that is going to help or not.

Any other suggestions? Is there a setting that I can just turn off so it doesn't correct anything I type?

Go into Settings > Language & Keyboards > Android keyboard settings.. turn off auto capitalization and correct common mistakes? Pretty much the same for other keyboards you might have installed.. just look on their settings page.

One recommendation: SWYPE! You'll never "type" the same way again.

You can also just add words to the user dictionary

Settings > language and keyboard > user dictionary

I am not sure if I would like swype and I don't know if that would solve my gripe. I am going to try either turning the setting off or add some words to the dictionary and see if that helps.

There's a very quick and painless way to add words to the built in dictionary, well its actually quicker to just add them this way to begin with. When you are typing out a word that is not recognized you will see it hown in the auto correct row as the first box on the left hand side, from here long press on the word in that box and it will add it to the dictionary and never will you have to worry about it being auto corrected again.

Best tip I found so far! This has made my life so much easier because I can't remember all the crap I type at once to add to dictionary. this is a GREAT way to do it, quick and painless.

It's annoying when I mistype 'is' and it comes up with IA or ia. Why is that even in the dictionary? Is there any option to remove certain auto correction suggestions?
