BGR and Engadget are both are suggesting Moto jumped the gun because they removed the FAQ page. But really all they did was... remove the FAQ page. Matt has made no indication that that is related to 2.1 being delayed - in fact he made an additional post after those two articles came out to clarify that.

"I did clarify my original comment here (link) -- easy to miss. I was only speaking about the notes. And since my information about those was so bad, please excuse me if I make no additional comments. I'm just really sorry that my error resulted in bad feelings for some Droid owners."

So. I wouldn't worry too much about it. If there's any delay to their original FB announcement saying it's rolling out this week - I would think it's due to additional VZW red tape.

If there are no objections, I'm going to merge this onto the other 2.1 thread in a few minutes.

It will be at least 2 or 3 weeks before we see this updated. There's no way Motor would go through with admitting the update was prematurely announced just to release it a few days later.

It was just the FAQ page that prematurely went live. Until they update the Facebook account they used to announce 2.1's roll out - I'm not losing hope. But that's just me..

With that said. You never know. I wouldn't be surprised if it wasn't out this week.

So put the phone in airplane mode and work while you are at work

I just plug it in. Running wifi for an internet connection, my phone tells me I have email before my desktop does.

Matt said that it will be out soon instead of this week like before. Soon tends to mean a few weeks if not a month.

gonzo....shoulda listened to me way back when lol. I have always said 2.1 will take time, remember back when everyone thought we would get it right after they released the N1? I'd suggest that with all the ROOTing, ROMs and other hacks available, there are only a few of us that actually will use stock 2.1... until I'll happily cruise on 2.0.1 with not a worry in the world.

What are you wanting with 2.1 that rooting is gloing to do for you? 5 screens? The only reason I would see getting worked up over an update is if my current version was buggy and my phone didn't work properly. Motorolas been in this game for a long time and when they feel like the device they made and created is ready for the android update I will update. Until then I'm going to enjoy having arguably one of the most powerful and customizable phones in the US market.

Do we all want the update for a reason or are we all envious that there's a more powerful and updated android device out there?

Everything basically. Once rooted you can flash a real 2.1 ROM or a 2.0.1 ROM with all the new features of 2.1 (minus live walls). And now with a real CyanogenMOD ROM being made for the Droid based on 2.1r2 we will have something better then the OTA.

I was in the lunch line yesterday, the guy behind me had his Droid out, I asked if he was checking on the status of the update. He replied "Huh? what update?". I asked how he liked his phone, he replied "It's great, love it!"

I'm sure he is happy with his stock phone, just as I am running stock, just wish I was as oblivious as he was.

No bluetooth fixes have been confirmed in 2.1 that I've seen...

It could include improved performance, better battery life, stability has never been a problem for me w/the stock OS, and even running custom ROMS I've rarely seen any issues.

The update will come tonight, I am sure of it.
The way things work for me usually have a direct correlation to Murphy and his stupid laws. I got tired of waiting for the update and wanted more home screens so broke down and installed launcher+. I spent a goodly amount of time last night getting widgets where I wanted them and all the icons just so. Now that I have 5 screens (7 is overkill lol) and am happy with the way it's set up there is no other option but for the update to come and make me start all over again. It's a given frankly.
Charge your phones so you will all be set for the big upgrade tomorrow morning!!! LOL, it's coming!

The last update (2.0.1) started getting pushed at 7pm on Friday. I expect that Verizon has a say in when it happens and 7pm on Friday gives them the whole weekend to get it pushed out to everyone before their network starts getting hit with the regular business day traffic (remember we're talking about a ~80Mb download times every Droid owner ... about 3 million users I think).

So, I expect the first group to start getting the update tomorrow evening.

This feels like a bunch of people are standing outside the restroom at the mall, holding their wife's purse and hoping she's the next one out so you can hand it back and get the hell outta there so you don't have to look like a dope!

Why is everyone SO excited about WHEN the 2.1 update comes? Most of you aren't going to run it stock are you? You are going to wait until the REAL programmers have their crack at the new source code so they can make a better version of it.

Seriously, look at Bugless and Sholes (not trying to leave any ROMS out...just going with my experinces)...why doesn't the stock ROM look as good or perform as well? You didn't switch to a custom ROM because it was different...you got it because it was better!

Enjoy the Roms that are out there and just keep checking the forums...not the Motorola website.

Maybe google knows android users will use roms etc, and for that reason arent too worried about making the best looking/most functional builds...

google should look into hiring these devs!

P.S.... Wheres my 2.1?

Much to your chagrin and utter amazement, yes, some of us are going to run it stock.

Are we still on this crap... Really?!?!??

I have a Droid that works the way I want it to work. It's not running at 1 Ghz, but that's because the manufacturers intended this phone to work optimally at a slower speed.

It doesn't do cartwheels either. That is because that would be really uncomfortable in my pocket.

My phone rings when someone calls me. It alerts me when I get emails and if I get lost, it's trusty enough to help me get to where I need to go.

My DROID works. WHEN 2.1 comes out, I will upgrade because it's the natural order of things.

I applaud all the devs who are able to do "neat tricks" with their skills, but seriously... Are we still talking about a phone here???

Just my 2.1 cents.

Here's what you may not be considering UBRocked. I am anticipated 2.1 to be optimized from the standpoint of a better/faster kernel and a better/faster OS. Bugless and Sholes are better because they've optimized things from the Applications side of things. DE-odex'ing the apk's helped make things run more efficiently. Of course, Taz's 1.3 GHz kernel gave my DROID a pretty nice kick in the shorts. But what if someone down the road can overclock the 2.1 kernel? Whew! Lightning baby!

So, that's what I'm anticipating. I can care less about more homescreens, live wallpapers, 3D this, graphics that, yada yada yada. I want to see what a truly optimized kernel and OS can do.

I'll probably be totally let down and keep running Sholes' ROMs based off of 2.0.1 with Taz's overclocked 2.0 kernel.

I had to google 'chagrin'...I like that! That's cool but my thought is that as soon as 2.1 rolls out, the clock will start on 2.1.1 or 2.2 to fix all the things that 2.1 failed to address for each person specifically. Hence...the beauty of the ROMS...so many to choose from and all with a different flavor and benefits so you can have the Droid more to your liking.

LOL, chagrin is a great word, isn't it? One of my favorites, I like to bust it out whenever I can.
You are right, there will always be fixes and updates and ROMS certainly do allow for much customization but rooting and spending endless hours mucking with it isn't for everyone. I'm happy with stock for now...who knows what tomorrow will bring for me though. I'm glad it's an option, but not necessarily an option for everyone

No, I understand what you are saying and that was what I was implying. Once 2.1 comes out...great. Once the dev's start releasing the better versions of it...that's when the fun starts. I really liked my phone stock. I love my phone now that I have OC and custom roms. Can it get better than it is today? Yes, but not from an OTA update in the middle of the night

I'm a lot more excited for flash support than 2.1!

If you mean BT voice commands, no, no word on enabling it.

One of the few pathetic things about this phone that I otherwise love.

I got tired of waiting and decided after all the comparisons between waiting for 2.1 and rooting, to root with Beast. Loving it. The gallery app is incredible. i got confused for a minute when I saw all these extra photos, then realized it has automatically connected to my Picasa account. Just great.

The voice to text is great also, works really, really well for messaging. Just make sure Spongebob is not blaring in the background. You end up with one drunk sounding sms!
