Funny.. I'd been waiting for it for so long, and now that I have a custom ROM installed, I really have no more interest in the official 2.1 update Booo. Still though, I'm sure this will make a lot of people happy.

Well, soon as we get our hands on that update.zip, the devs will be able to tear out all the good stuff and incorporate it into future ROMs.

Anyways, good news for everyone who's been anticipating this.

For us root users do we have to wait for someone to upload a version of the update that won't break root? Or do we just have to wait until they find a new exploit for root

Now that's one thing I am looking forward to. When the community devs start rolling out 2.1 based versions of their ROMs, it can only get better. I'm definitely steering clear of the official update though.

Okay, can we all stay positive and stop with this the OFFICIAL is a joke stuff? Seriously, this is very positive for everyone who is not rooted and it's good to see that that were finally getting it even if it is rumored to be a 2.1 with half the goodies...

But hey, if you're going to ***** about it, just root like me and everyone else who can have a developer make it go 1 ghz!

Anyways, very good news!!

why on earth would they not include live wallpapers for the Droid 2.1 update? sorry, i spend most of my time on the Eris forum. maybe this has been discussed quite a bit. now i'm wondering how much longer before the Eris gets a 2.x update. guess it's more dependant on what HTC is doing.

Im actually kinda mad about this, I wont be getting my droid until next Monday. I hope that phone wont come loaded with 2.1, it would also suck if the guy at the VZW store does the OTA update for me without asking. I planned on rooting it right when I get it.

It probably won't come preloaded with it unless someone unboxes and turns on the phone before you get there, which shouldn't happen. Just make sure the reps don't do the OTA update. Tell them you know how to set the phone up and you'll do it yourself. Of course, don't mention the rooting part

They just released specs and video of the HTC Incredible (Endgadget), which includes the Sense UI version of 2.1. This means that 2.1 is ready for Sense UI based devices and they will likely push it out via OTA. The only question is when.

Leaked, not released. Meaning it may not be ready just yet.

Same here...Just installed Bugless Beast last night w/950 mhz OC...

So the question now is : Will rooted phones get the OTA and break root? If not, that would be great. I'd rather decide if I want to do 2.1 on my own..

meh, not to bothered by this, the update looks lame. not full 2.1! what! i have most the stuff this updates! i guess it will just be MORE OFFICIAL! Official USA version of the browser and gallery. meh, not sure if it changes much or if it will run better. i guess we will see when it drops and what pete or others can do for us

I thought rooted Heroes were running Sense 2.1 for ages now anyways. The Incredible looks cool, but if you're talking about Sense 2.1 devices, the Supersonic is the one to beat.

I would (maybe) leave my Droid for that device, if it ever found its way onto VZW.

Anyways, as for now, it's just a waiting game for Moto/VZW to start pushing this update. First person to upload the .zip file will get a big hug from me

Even if it were accidentally update to 2.1, you could always flash back to 2.0.1 following your root and then go from there.

Will this update replace my o/c kernel with the original? The only reason I'm rooted is for overclock anyway

I'm not rooted but wouldn't the 2.1 update still help those who are rooted?
I would think the devs would be able to make ROMs faster with access to the "guts" of 2.1.

For one day...at the most. This update will be chopped up before even a quarter of Droid users receive their OTA updates.

I mean, we got all the multitouch goodness out of the N1 in one night, this should be super easy.

I can live without power sucking animated wallpapers but I'm a little ticked that flash *still* isn't going to be available. I thought Adobe was going to release it "early 2010"? I'm sure Adobe will be the first to whine when they miss boat!

Looking forward to 2.1 + Sweeter Home!

Looking forward to 2.1 + Sweeter Home!
Once again, FLASH has Nothing to do with this update, Complain to Adobe. Come on Man!!!!!!!

I find it hilarious that just a few weeks ago every Droid power-user was totally indignent over the fact the OTA update to 2.1 didn't come on January 21. Then a whole bunch of them (myself included) rooted their Droids and now really don't care too much about the OTA because they have found how awesome the ROMs that different Devs put out are. (myself included)

This may be confirmation bias on my part but it seems like a really big portion of people who have rooted their phones only did so after realizing that an OTA wasn't coming January 21st. Just look at all the root related threads that popped up in the weeks following.

That one somewhat arbitrary date may have significantly changed the user base of the Droid forever.

and... +1 "I'm still excited for the 2.1 update just to see what the Devs do with it"

How do they call it 2.1 if its missing all that is different between 2.0.1 and 2.1? I don't get it? Aren't the missing parts what everyone wants out of 2.1?

haha That is pretty much why I did it. I was tired of waiting for the goodness.

And like you (and some others) am still excited to see what 2.1 brings us.

There are more differences than the app drawer and animated wallpaper.

- Revamped Music player interface
- Totally new Image and Video gallery (which is awesome)
- Multitouch browser
