Red face About to go over the 5GB unlimited data plan, what now?

I can't believe I am using that much bandwidth

So, what happens when I go over the 5GB? What is the overage cost?

I should turn off notifications

Darn you Jetflicks!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

There is no 5gb limit with Verizon. You are fine AT&T has the 5gb limit.

Unlimited means UNLIMITED - there is no such thing as a 5GB limitation on an unlimited data plan. There may be tethering limitation though depending on your implementation.

I believe the 5GB limit applies to tethering (I vaguely remember seeing this somewhere), not to data used by the phone itself.

So, if you haven't been using that data while tethered, then I saw continue streaming youtube.

If you've used all that data tethered, then I recommend you remortgage your house to pay the overage fees

Verizon cant tell if you have been tethering or not. If you use an extreme amount of data though Verizon will start tracking what your doing I heard...

Wow, I thought I was bad when I hit 2GB one month. I don't think I could hit 5GB if I tried. My net connection at home is a different story.... average 200 - 300GB / Mo.

The only 5 GB limit is for Verizon Wireless Aircards. The data package on your phone doesn't have a limit. Although, if we all turn out to be heavy hitters like Joe, VzW will probably start imposing a limit!

So first, to add, there is no cap on phones, only on tethering plans. Second, why don't you people use WiFi? It doesn't matter really, but I noticed when I use WiFi more my battery lasts longer. I find WiFi wherever I can so each time I will have free FAST data.

I use wifi as much as possible, but I also listen to pandora and slacker while at work, add the videos while at the airport, most don't have free wifi, and you got over 5gb worth of data

No defending AT&T on the DROID Forums!!!!! Big RED for life.
J/K VZW can suck it, but I can't complain about their network.

Shoot! They're charging me $27 for unlimited data. I'm using it! The only reason I use WiFi is to tether my phone to my lapt ...I mean, I never use WiFi.

To monitor the data usage from the phone, I find "netcounter" to do a good job.

Unlimited is exactly that.... back in the day they used to offer unlimited data for $5 a month, and this was only 4 years ago, i had it and one day they told me no. it doesnt cost them any more then it did back then, they are making pure profit of data charges, they only thing they had to do was upgrade the network, either way the costs of data on us are no where near the costs on them once you add up the payments by all of vzws customers.

There is no overage cost, but if you keep it up Verizon will check up how you're using that much within a month. Keep it up and you'll be terminated--assuming you're using it for something that is not formally covered under contract.

I have used about 800MB since I signed up with Verizon around the 27th of January. All I do is browse the web, stream pandora, beyondpod downloads podcasts nightly (I've changed this to use wifi though) and possibly a youtube video here and there.

I use 3g Watchdog. Free on Android Market. It has not ever done anything other than report my usage to me. It sits in the notification bar.

man, that robot is a babe but she put me in an infite loop, every time I chose the option for data, it would say my call is being transfered, then it would start over. haha.

Then I downloaded "my verizon" and it tells me "droid users, a new widget is available for WiFi - please re-install and try again." what does that have to do with checking my data???

What do I try now?

They don't know for certain, but if you consume a large amount of data, they can restrict you (per contract)

so it is unlimited data, BUT, they have a clause to restrict you if they feel you are harming the network or cheating.

I believe that is only for tethering. If you don't have tethering on your plan then I wouldn't worry about it.

Mine just reset on the 10th and I've used 42 megs.

Though, I just rooted my phone (yay) so that number may go up since I can tether. I think I use around 500 a month, so not a big user. Once I buy some Bluetooth headphones, it'll go up though.

I don't think I use 11.5GB on my laptop and desktop combined.

Do you stream stuff 24/7?

I'd rather not say how I reached 11.5GB. Someone from Verizon may be lurking here.

Too late I've just suspended your account for tethering and streaming ehem... R-rated content. Seriously, even if some of us did work at Verizon how would we pull your account? Via username?

Federal agents just kicked my door in and I'm currently on my way to the penitentary for breaking tethering laws. Ironically, they didn't confiscate my Droid so I'm able to post this message from the back of the paddy wagon.
