On another note I have had the beta forever as well...I wonder if this will be any different...there were a few bugs I hated about it and I hope they have been fixed

Things i hated about the prev one...
Deleting stuff
Everytime I reopened the keyboard, if i had previously been on the number pad, I had to press for the number pad then back to letters to type anything...sooooo aggravating
I doubt that there is one bit of difference ... but I downloaded/installed it anyway. At least now we can point new people to an official link.
UPDATE: Boy was I wrong! I'm liking this version a LOT better. And yes, there is auto space. Just start swyping a new word and it inserts a space.
DLing now. This is gonna be awesome to try, since I originally dismissed it until it came bundled with a cooked ROM - once I tried it, wow. Just wow.
It has its idiosyncrasies, of course, but for the most part, it rocks.

Good to know.

That last irks me to no end too. Here's to seeing what the official beta looks like...
i got it, installed it. seems the same as the nexus leaked version.. still no auto cap or auto space after a period.. unless im missing something
it explains in the guide (I think?) that it doesn't auto space after periods in case you're typing a url or an abbreviation.
But you can swype from the period to the spacebar in one stroke to get the period then space. It works for the question mark and exclamation point too, without having to push on sym.
I've downloaded and installed the launcher.apk that the email link directs me to. When I open the launcher I type in my email and password it starts downloading. About halfway through I get the installation error
So, use the email address in the email that you received to contact the devs and ask them what is going on - and are you using a WiFi connection as they recommended?
I just now downloaded and installed it and had no issues.
Wow, this version of swype is even better. UI looks a lot slicker. Like someone else said, you can now swipe period to space for a new sentence (although I wish you could just double tap space). Now if you hold down the delete button, it will keep deleting full words without you having to keep pressing and releasing. Also, if you mis-swipe a word you can double tap it after you finish the sentence to change it (the old version might have done this, but I had forgotten about it).

Did you uninstall the old version first? Not sure if you have to, but I did.
Also, you don't have to use wifi, they just recommend it.
I would have mentioned the having the old one installed, but that error message is "Swype is already installed. Please uninstall it", so I figured that was self-explanatory. As for using WiFi, yeah, it is recommended, but at 3 MB it is pretty slow coming on a 3G connection....
Mayze, what is the error message that you're receiving exactly?

"Package Installation Failed"
I've tried numerous times still no luck. Could it be because I'm running a custom ROM? I'm using droidmod's 1.6
Just installed it. Seems quite nice, very similar to the recently leaked version (1.16 I think), that fixed auto cap, but removed the extra keyboards with the navigation and selection options.
I miss those those options, don't get why they were removed...
I tried ShapeWriter and didn't like it. Then I tried SlideIt and I like that one. I've been playing with swype for a little bit and it might be better than SlideIt.
I really don't like trying to tap out text with the regular touch keyboard. I moved from a Blackberry to the Hero and was concerned about the keyboard change. It was easy to use both thumbs on the Blackberry's keyboard. Can't do it at all with the Hero keyboard- index finger only. Swype or SlideIt might work out well with a little practice using the old index finger. I'm already adjusting to the fingers-getting-in-the-way-of-the-letters thing.

Have you tried rebooting your phone?

I have used every finger on my right hand and the thumb to use Swype - it is extremely versatile, so it accommodates a vast majority of users and their peculiar quirks.
I love that you can now backspace for an entire line instead of just the last word typed. However I am disappointed they removed the editing keypad. I really liked the navigation arrows to fix a correction instead of tapping with my fingertip 20 times trying to get between the right letters.
As for the download, I did it over 3G and had no issue installing, so if you have a good signal you shouldn't need WiFi.

They didn't remove it, you just get to it differently now. Swype from the swype key to the SYM key and it'll pop up.
The Beta version is great! A lot of good improvements. I like the auto cap and deleting is much better. Also, it is 4mb compared to nearly 10mb of the version I had, that is worth switching alone.

I would suggest to not bother installing this if you switch roms a lot, or reboot your phone a lot. I dunno if it's just me, or the beta, but anytime the phone reboots, which happens a lot with all the battery pulls I need to do playing with stuff, I have to uninstall and reinstall swype. This wouldn't be a problem aside from having to sign in and redownload and reinstall, every single time I turn my phone back on.

But you DON'T have to sign back in, download, and reinstall. Just backup the .apk file with ASTRO and reinstall that file. It's that simple. And I'm not referring to the "Installer" .apk either.
And what's all this battery pulling that you're doing anyway??? There's no way you've installed more ROMs than I, and the amount of battery pulls I've had to do can be counted on one hand. Battery pulls are NOT good as you risk corrupting data every time you do that.
It hasn't been until here lately that I've been getting boot loops with these new ere/ese releases and oc kernels. Only way I can stop it is with a battery pull. This SS ERE25 with Chevy's 1.1 is all I've been able to keep stable lately. Oh well though..
Man!, I love the new Swype. But more than anything, I love that I learned to, "long press inside a text field to switch between Input Methods" so now i can switch been Swype while I'm at the office and Android 2.1 keyboard while I'm driving for voice input. This is great!
