If you are talking about instant messenger there is meebo and ebuddy to name a couple. You can use one app to log into yahoo messenger, aim, google talk, msn and facebook. If you mean a good text messenger I use handcent.

You didn't read the OP's post very well..he was talking about a widget so he can view his texts/contacts on his home screen. I do not know of one.

PureMessenger Widget isn't bad, though I haven't used it extensively so I don't know how much of what you asked is possible with it.

ultimate faves is a carousel that lets you add 16 contacts that you use the most. I believe the lite version allows 3 carosels where the paid version allows 7 and yes it is a widget. i use it and have a carousel for texts , speed dial and apps. hope this helps.
