Default Frustration mounting

on my 2nd replacement Droid. My icons disappear causing multiple daily reboots. Camera still hardly ever focuses. Video still has the occasional green lines.

And now suddenly, icons are non responsive causing me to re boot even more.

I am re booting this phone 6-8 times a day.

I'm about at my wits end with the Motorola. Verizon will send a 3rd replacement out, but I'm thinking I should sell it and wait for the Nexus or another model. I do not want the Eris.

I think it's either Nexus One or Palm Pre Plus at this point.

Anyone have an opinion or who may be experiencing the same issues over and over?

WOW I'm sorry to her that you're having so many problems. I've had my Droid since opening day with no issues at all. I hope you find something that works for you. I know you'll be happy with Droid once you get one that WORKS. IMHO anything else will be a step back.

Yeah. When it works I love it. I have bad luck with phones. And what really irritates me is the money I spent on invisible shield that Verizon obviously won't compensate me for.

As for the pre plus, I've used one before and can type fine on it. I wear a 9.25 size wedding ring, so my fingers are not very fat.

I'd like to keep Android. I like WebOS, but I like Android's app selection better even though WebOS is more eye appealing.

Maybe I should wait a week for the Nexus. Or the Incredible.. which I hear will be out around the time of the Nexus.

If you're having the exact same issues on three different phones, I'd suggest you look at the apps you've installed.

I only install mainstream apps. Weather Channel, MLB, Shazam. I do have a few to do apps that i can try deleting.

But for the most part, 99 percent of my apps are not 3rd party.

Never the less, the apps may cause the icon issues, but they would not cause the camera issues. Those have happened out of the box.

Have you tried doing a factory reset on any of these phones to eliminate app issues? What about reinstalling apps one at a time and then testing for the icon issues?

As for the camera, stupid question, but is your lens dirty?

Software issues can indeed cause your camera to not focus properly.

Since you say that the camera issue is happening out of the box, it leads me to suspect that your phones have not been updated to Android 2.01.

When the Droid was released last November, there was a bug that caused date related focus issues:

Motorola Droid camera autofocus fixed in secrecy? (Update: it's a date-related self-correction) -- Engadget

Have you checked the date code (under the battery) to see when these three phones were made? I'm just having a hard time understanding how you can have the same exact icon and camera issues on three different phones unless they were all made at the same time or you're having strange app issues.

Did you keep the micro usb or got brand new one with all replacement phones?

This is a good point some phones are prone to actining up when using 3rd party chargers. What you really need to do is factory restore and don't install any apps and run it for a day stock. Then install like 3 apps at a time to test. I've read the weather channel apps sucks.

Also android 2.1 is launching this week so before you give up wait for the update because I personally am running 2.1 and it is so much faster then 2.0.1.

Quick thought on the nexus, it has a really really fragile screen. Something to keeep in mind that you are getting replacement droids for freee but when you break the screen on the nexus you'll be buying a $500 phone all over again.

BTW, I messed up my post.. I meant micro SD card... If you keep that SD card and its bad, it could cause application issues. I had a phone I would FC on regular basis (couldn't start talk, dial FC, market FC) but once I swapped it (didn't keep the SD card) then everything worked fine after.

Do you run a 3rd party camera app? IIRC, there are a couple on the market that don't play well with the Droid. I would try a reset and see what happens. Reload apps one at a time, starting with most used, and see what happens. Could be a stream of bad hardware, but I'm thinking software is more likely.

It's actually my 2nd phone, not my 3rd. I said I might need a 3rd. It's always been the same micro SD.

One thing that is weird.. I also have GDE as an alternative desktop. But I never use it. I tested using GDE all day today and no problems. Went back to the original desktop, my icons disappeared in a matter of minutes.. like 15.

Went back to GDE, everything was fine.

Maybe GDE is causing it on the original screen? Who knows. Anyway, I did read today about 2.1 rolling tomorrow, so I'm gonna wait for that upgrade and see if it fixes the camera and icon issue.

As to the guy who asked what I'm running, it is 2.0.1. I'm in a group of people where that update didn't fix the camera issue. I googled it, and I'm not alone there.

So, I will post back after 2.1 . If still having issues, I'm gonna wipe it to factory and re install apps one by one and write down the order I do it. I am going to only re install the one's I've used, I have a handful that I used the first few days then never launched again.

If all that doesn't work, I will try switching SD cards. I am using the original one that came with the phone though.

As a last resort, I'll have Verizon ship me another.

I do have FX camera, never use it. Interesting. That's the first one to go.
