Default Going to Toronto this weekend - How much $$$ for calls txt

The family has two DROIDs and we are going to Toronto for a Hockey Tourney this weekend. I have attempted to google what the roaming charges are however I have received mixed messages. I am seeing TXT go against your plan "unlimited" roaming calls are .69 per minute Verizon plus 1.00 per minute for Canada roam. We have a family share plan with unlimited texting. Does anyone have any experience going up North and cell phone charges. I plan to place my phone in Airplane mode and make my 14 year old do the same. I was thinking of finding a wifi hotspot to check emails and such. Any assistance would be great...

Do you have a family plan? Then switch over to national + canada for that time. Verizon said I could switch back and forth all the time.

It's going to be 2$ per MB with free roaming and long distance to Canada/US.

Default Thanks!!!

I will see if I can switch plans for the weekend. I just didn't want to come back and get an 11x7 envelope in the mail from Verizon with a $400 phone bill. My 14year old send approx 300 txt a day not including what he receives...

I would check with the rate for texting... but it might be included if roaming is free with that plan. I don't have a texting plan (but I should get one).

I HAVE EXPERIENCE WITH THIS AS I FREQUENT Toronto;;;; texting is free, calls are 69 cents a min both incoming and outgoing and data is $2 a mb, i HIGHLY recommend you do not allow roaming data( by disabling in your phone settings), nor make phone calls, my wife was slammed with a $700 bill on a 3 day trip.

i know the verizon website says differently but texting is free i have never been charged for a text message, i have the 1400 min, with unlimited messaging.

I just got back from Quebec and around. I used my droid for texting (free) and data. I had to change my data plan for 4 days but when you change it, you get unlimited data for less than $2 a day above what you would pay in the USA. Contact Verizon for more details and they will set you up. I used a company phone for calling. Phone calls were too much to use.

went to montreal a few weeks ago. .65 a call, .20 text message, data plan is varied. I went with $30 extra unlimited data plan for the weekend for global access. i reverted back to my $30 plan when i got home.
