I was so hopeful that a guy that would take the time to upload a screenshot (with the file size/day carefully cropped out) while at "work" but couldn't upload the file because he was at "work" would come through for us. Damn

Dude... I can call a file "update.zip" and take a screenshot also. To me, that means absolutely nothing. That is a major red flag.

Yes, the 2.1 update is coming from Google and Motorola. Flash is coming from Adobe. No relation what so ever!

This is exactly what happened. Verizon spokesperson Thomas Pica said in an email to popular phone site phonescoop.com, "The Android 2.1 upgrade for the Droid by Motorola was deployed to a small number of Verizon Wireless test users as scheduled. It is expected the broader phased rollout to all Droid by Motorola users will take place, but not just yet. No date scheduled yet."

It's fairly well known and well-respected in the industry. I did Tier 2 phone support for AT&T for a few years (Res Desk and IWC) and we used and recommended Phone Scoop extensively.

Yeah, every time I asked my verizon rep a question, they referred me to phonescoop. Was kind of annoying. Wondered what they were getting paid for if a free site could provide more info than them. Imagine that :-)

The way it worked for us was that we only had so much information that was available in customer-facing documents. We often had more information but we weren't allowed to directly provide that information or those sources to the customer.

However, a lot of it was available on Phonescoop, so we could direct customers there to get information we knew they needed to know but were not able to provide.

I believe the Eris has Flash Lite - while the Droid is scheduled to eventually get full Flash.

You and me both. I have been coding a side-scroller game in Flash for Droid. Once 10.1 Flash hits Droid, I will be coding more and more games in Flash for Droid.

Flash is not "dead" according to Steve Jobs, it's crouched down in the brush awaiting the precise time to POUNCE!

I don't want or care about Flash on my phone. I keep it blocked until needed on my desktop machine with the Flashblock extension for Firefox.

I don't want to see Flash banner ads, stupid Flash website intros made by crappy web designers or visit websites that use Flash for navigation (again made by crappy web designers). Websites with extensive use of Flash are generally lacking in content anyway and not worth bothering with.

The only possible reason I would want Flash on my Droid is to see Flash videos on websites that host the videos themselves and not on Youtube.

I agree. I hope there'll be a way to disable Flash when I don't want it. Outside of watching Flash video, I don't want it draining my battery trying to run stupid ads and what not.

For what it's worth I had to call Verizon today about another issue - and when I asked about the update he said it was a minor glitch in the update itself and that while it was still TBD he expected it to go out in about a week.

Someone on Facebook had an idea...

some1 should call verizon and say hey i got my update and its not working and if the people on the phone go ohh we didnt give the update out to people yet then we will know the number is on the droid help page on vzw ,If the update fails again please contact Verizon Wireless Customer Care at (800) 922-0204.

Maybe Verizon would push the update.zip to someone's phone to repair it if they said they got it and it failed. What do you think?

If they really want to repair a botched update, they may push 2.01.

Starting to think maybe they should STOP trying to remove features from the Nexus 1 version of 2.1 hey? That 2.1 version works just fine.

I think that's pretty much just a recap, and not really anything new.

Officially, there is no word from Motorola (NYSE: MOT), and requests for comment by InternetNews.com were not returned as of press time. The update was set to begin rolling out in stages to 250,000 users at a time, beginning at noon Eastern time on Thursday, March 18.

The 2.1 update will not come preinstalled with flash 10.1, but does support it. Flash will be out with in the first half of this year, hopefully.

What Trident said ^^, but just remember that the 10.1 flash update isn't up to Android/google/motorola... It's more on Adobe's shoulders.

Right, flash is just basically an application. It will likely be downloadable from the market.

More like a Software Library, or a plug-in. You wont have to go into the app for flash to work, it will automatically work.
