droid 2.1 + yahoo mail + repeatedly sending multiple copies of emails
I know the update hasn't offically been rolled out but does anybody have any early knowledge of whether or not this update will correct the issue of emails sent from the droid from yahoo sending multiple copies and copying them into your sent folder? I know there's a setting to disable this feature under normal circumstances but i like having my sent copies saved and was hoping that this update will correct this issue.
Maybe someone knows or if some gets their update tomorrow, please post for all to know. Thanks.
I have the same problem. I had to delete over 2000 email copies in my sent folder since Christmas when I got the Droid. Just got the 2.1 update, so hopefully it will stop.
The Best in Email 2010 - The Reader's Choice Awards About.com
Gmail — 820 (45.50%)
GMX Mail — 376 (20.87%)
Yahoo! Mail — 340 (18.87%)
Windows Live Hotmail — 143 (7.94%)
I only ever ever use it to test HTML emails before giving to my clients
I don't care what any poll says; I absolutely LOATHE the way that gmail does email, IM's, messages, whatever you wanna call them. (I don't mind the calendar and contacts.) I find that yahoo is much simpler and easy to use and organizes your messages and folders in a much more intuitive way, and if Google didn't require a gmail account for Android phones, I never would have signed up for one. Anyway, that's just my opinion in a short bout of crankiness here
Guys, do a search of my name on these forums - I started a thread earlier today asking people with 2.1 if this is fixed under the update. I believe it was supposed to be...
At last check, I had 216,000 items in my sent folder. Haha. It'd be nice if they fixed this.

Please keep us up to date with this problem now that you have the update. Fingers are crossed that this is fixed.
So far so good. Haven't had the mass repeat emails in my sent box since the update.

I just got the update on Easter morning and I re-setup my email acct and sent a test email. So far, I haven't seen any copies of the sent message but I'll give it a day or so and then report back. Fingers crossed.
I had this issue before 2.1 and still have it after 2.1. I even re-added my yahoo account to accommodate for the new server addresses. The only way I've found to solve it is to uncheck "save sent mail" or something like that in mail options.
If yours continue to function properly, could you update with your configuration settings?
It is now Tuesday morning and I don't have the multiple copies of email sent from the droid in my outbox so it appears that this issue has been fixed.
As far as my setting, I actually didn't change anything. I simply erased the email acct I had previously set up and then re-entered it and it seems to be working fine.

I wouldn't go as far as that...
I got my OTA update this morning. I deleted my yahoo account from my droid then set it up again using just my email address and password. Then I sent an email just to test it. An hour later, I checked my sent items on my computer and there were 7 copies of that email in the sent items.
I now have 2.1. I removed and readded my Yahoo Premium account. (It is a much simpler process on 2.1) I STILL suffer from duplicates when using IMAP.
I hope someone has a fix for this.
You don't need to use IMAP anymore. (Unless you do for some other reason.) You can set up your yahoo account just using your email address and password now.

Do you have the save sent mail option unchecked in your yahoo mail options settings?

I did that. (Use address and password for setup) I just assumed it was IMAP.
I received the update on Easter as well. Deleted my old account and set up again. Still getting mulitple copies in my sent folder. Not as many (now can be less than 150 unlike before) but still happening. UGH!!! Have been using m.yahoo.com through the browser and may have to go back to that.
Hi, All,
First post here. Week old Droid. I'm just learning, but progressing nicely. I'm trying to not ask a lot of 'stupid' questions. I do have this problem. I do have 2.1. And, despite this, I do love the Droid. I think hubby is getting jealous.

I got my update OTA on 4/5 and tried setting up Yahoo on 4/6 but it was not reliably connecting. Deleted the account and waited until yesterday evening to try again. This time the setup was totally transparent after I entered my email address and password. Noticed that the IMAP server is android.imap.mail.yahoo.com and outbound is android.smtp.mail.yahoo.com, which it was not the day before.
So far, I have sent over a half dozen emails from the Droid over Yahoo today and have seen no multiplied copies in sent folder. Indeed, it seems to be really speedy, faster than Gmail in getting the message sent.
Don't know if this helps anyone, but perhaps you need to blow away your existing Yahoo email and reinstall it.

It seems to take a day or so for the duplicate sent emails to start populating the folder. Report back tomorrow evening and let us know what is happening (look on your computer to see what is in the folder on the yahoo server).

Mine shows that too. I guess that's the "better Yahoo email support" they were talking about. Too bad it didn't do what it's supposed to do

I actually noticed the same thing if this helps anybody. BTW, I have the Yahoo free acct (not premium) and I set up my email acct with the Droid by simply adding the email acct and inputting the password. I didn't use the "cheat" method as I previously had to do because it wasn't "supporting" the free yahoo acct.

You're lucky. I had about 100 copies of each of two test replies I sent a couple days after they were sent. I deleted all but one copy of each and guess what? They're back today (the excess copies)! I'm curious if your tests were with original sent emails and not replies - maybe the bug is selective. I'll try a couple original emails and see what happens. Anyway, I'll probably disable Yahoo mail on the Droid again and use the Yahoo mobile website to access my Yahoo account - it actually works quite well, except you don't get any notifications of course.
EDIT: That was quick - I already have 3 copies of each of 2 original emails sent a minute or 2 ago in the sent folder.

Right after I got the update, I sent a new email and it seemed to work fine. I also just sent another new email to a totally different email address so I'm crossing my fingers that this works as well without all of the dup sent emails. Again, I let everybody know if I'm in the clear.
I'm happy to report that it appears that my Yahoo email is not duplicating the sent emails from the Droid. Hopefully, everybody that had problems has gotten theirs fixed.

Assuming you have the Yahoo profile set to send a copy of sent email to the sent folder, and you are running a stock Droid (2.1), you are apparently the only person in the world (universe?) who has been successful. Congrats.

I do indeed have my profile set up to make a copy of my sent emails and put them in my sent folder. That's why I noticed that I previously had almost a thousand copy of my emails. ...and yes, I made sure that my newest "test" emails were showing up in the sent folder only once and yes I'm sending these"test" emails from the droid and yes I have a free yahoo acct and not the yahoo premium acct. So far I have not had the issue show up.
Also, I'm running a stock Droid 2.1. My update came Easter morning. I previously had to "rig" my Droid to get yahoo emails as we all know that it was only supporting the yahoo premium email. Once the .21 update came, I deleted the set up I had and went back into the email app and added my yahoo email by simply adding the email address and password. I didn't mess with anything else or change anything. Once, I added the email address and password and saved it, it began working.
As far as being the only person in the universe that's not experiencing the problem, I believe there was an earlier poster who also mentioned that his seemed to be working correctly. I guess I'm one of the lucky 2. Sorry, but I don't know what else to say.

It's absolutely baffling - I did the exact same things you did - but don't be sorry, be happy. I'm sure some day we or they will figure it out.

Maybe this will help narrow it down. Does anyone have the Yahoo Premium account, with "save Sent emails" check, that does NOT have the duplicate problem? Maybe this is only a problem with Yahoo Premium accounts. If we can narrow that down, we might get closer to a solution.

Yahoo regular account, lots of duplicate sent mail, so that's not it.

Hi halfmonkey,
I'm that other 'lucky' one from earlier and I just noticed that my sent mail folder is beginning to duplicate sent messages, it started this morning with the first mail I sent. Over the past 4 days it had been just fine, so I have no idea why it just started this morning.
For the record, I am a paying Premium user of Yahoo mail, have been for at least 5 years.
I went through today without checking "save sent mail" hoping it won't duplicate. It did so the uncheck sent mail does NOT work anymore. This is annoying.

Is it just me or is it embarrassing for our platform that they haven't yet mastered email technology. I mean for f@ck sakes my 4 year old lg flip phone can handle this. It's not rocket science. I have a gmail account too but I don't want all five of my email addresses dumping there as the work around some suggest.
Sometimes I wonder if they just don't fix it because then everyone will have to switch to gmail and they can gather more trending data. If that's the case I will have to start calling them apple 2.0 because there is a sad move for the "don't be evil company".
Sorry just had to vent because my only work around is K9 mail and I hate they way it handles multiple accounts. Account switching on k9mail is real bad.
It doesn't appear to be a problem specific to either the free yahoo or the yahoo premium.
How about if anyone has noticed if it's only for new messages created and sent from the droid or has anyone else noticed if it occurs on replies as well. Maybe answers to these questions may help shed some light for those that are still affected.

It would appear that the problem occurred solely on 4/13/2010 for me, as I have sent and replied to emails using Droid email without any further incident. On that Tuesday, each of my sent mails generated 8 distinct entries in my online Sent folder, but it seems Google fixed the bug. So, it's working for me, your mileage may vary...
